Hey everyone, this is Pilot, here with the first in a new series of videos about my Bionicle 3D Printing Projects! In today's video, I'll be printing the canon Mask of Psychometry and a Shield for my Bionicle Moc of Toa Helryx. Along the way, I'll explain the process of 3D Printing Bionicle Pieces as well. Like I said in the video, 3D printing seems to be a very hot topic within the Bionicle Community. Of course official pieces will always be higher quality, but through 3D printing, Moccists have been given a slew of new parts to play around with. Are you a fan of 3D printed parts, and have you used them in any of your creations?

I think it would be cool to see 3D printed bionicle parts that resemble the film versions

I believe there are a few files out there that do that. Definitely for the Krakahn, among others.

Loving the progress man! What kind of printer/resin would you recommend? Need to get me one for Bionicle and Warhammer parts.

The printer I have is the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, which I’ve found to work very well so far! I forget exactly what resin I have, but I was able to get a bottle bundled with the printer all for about $300. Pretty good deal if you ask me!

Do you mean the printer? The one I use is the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro and I got it for about $300 USD

@@Pilot_of_Solace great! im a 3D artist and fan of bionicle so i may get into 3d printing with resin, it looks really good, i do have one more question tho, can you use a colored resin so when its finished you dont have to paint it? i hate the look of a painted part becuase it never looks the same as the original pieces and this looks really similar in terms of material, so if it can come out with color out of the 3d process that would be great

@@erickh555 There are different colors of resin, yes! However, the ones I’ve seen tend to be translucent, so I’m not sure if you could print something and have it look the same as an official piece. Granted the colored resin can be good if you want to make custom translucent pieces, like eye pieces in custom colors. All of the 3d printed pieces I’ve seen wind up needing paint to get colors similar to the real thing, so it’s best to just use one color of resin (like the gray I used in the video) and paint over it with the color you want. Hope that helps!

@@Pilot_of_Solace thanks a lot, you have been really helpful! im a bit disapointed that with 3d resin print you cant get the same level of opacity as regular resin casting but maybe in the future we get an option to do it more opaque

just wanna say, that mask you're wearing doesn't look like it is suitable for organic fumes from the uncured resins. You might definitely want to invest in an organic vapor mask
