BIONICLE Autopsy: What Made BIONICLE so Special? 

Bionicle was based off of a man's struggle against a brain tumor... Biological Chronicle, excuse me I'm going to go cry now.

It's actually kind of hilarious to imagine Faber loopy off his meds thinking to himself: "I wonder... What if there were like, little dudes in my pills that beat up the brain tumor? Like... That'd be a story; A whole chronicle on my brain... A biological chronicle... A _bionicle_ in my brain. A Bionicle brain! I'll call it Cancerbots"

That Biological Chronicle part just blew my mind. That just made me love bionicle 100x more than I did before. Forever my childhood, and my greatest memories.

Dear Threevirtues. WOW! what a video, just got goose bumps:). You are so detailed in your descriptions and analysis. Thanks for your videos. This is a great legacy. Bionicle was a fantastic ride and I'm so honored having been a part of it.

It suddenly occurred to me why the makuta made "viruses" that became rahi and/or biological weapons! I don't know how I never caught on to Christian Faber's condition...

The last part of the video that revealed the Mata Nui Robots meaning was truly amazing . So much respect for Christian Faber and also does anyone know if he won the battle against the evil disease?

This is great for anyone who isn't familiar with the Faber Files. When I first read about Faber's story and how it became Bionicle, I was blown away. It's funny, looking back at 2001 now I can see all the hints of the big reveal the fans just never figured out!

When you went into the back story about Faber blew my mind

he's trying to make me feel nostalgic so I cry. which i'm doing right now. Christ I miss bionicle if it wasn't for bionicle, I don't think my childhood would have been fun. R.I.P Bionicle, unmatched and forever nostalgic 2001-2010

Wow. I did not know that there was a story behind Bionicle's story. I also had a brain tumor, so hearing this made me appreciate Bionicle even more.

Bionicle was so special because you could tell that Lego put so much effort into it. I was going through my box underneath my bed where I store my old Bionicle sets to put them back together, and one thing I noticed was all the canisters (apart from the Toa Mata, when Bionicle was part of the Technic line) had the Lego logo extremely small and not in a lot of focus. The old adverts always said 'From Bionicle', not 'from Lego'. The sets were all well made, with great custom made pieces and a great sense of colour and play ability. The story was on par with the likes of Star Wars and Star Trek in terms of depth, continuity, charm, emotion and Maturity.

.... And not a mention of Bob Thompson to be found. Still awesome insightful video. I had no idea about the pill-canister link. That is genius!

Inspired by medication... no wonder most people think we Danes are weird, lol. Either way, really nice to see this back again. :)

Thank you for making me almost cry with how much emotion was in that ending. It is truly beautiful to know what Bionicle really was.

Great perspective! It gives a great sense to it all in a way that I think we Bionicle fans kind of felt from the beginning, Makuta as a disease and MataNui as the godlike notion of the very organism where it all took place. Great explanation, worth a ton!!

I think bionicle was successful because it was a perfect blend of a mystical yet robotic and elemental stories and play sets. I remember when I first got it in the McDonalds kids meal I thought it was so unique because it looked like a robot but somehow like a mystical native American at the same time. It got me curious and when they introduces the toa and different villagers with separate abilities and powers it made them all the better. Besides that Greg Farshety and his team had an amazing story line with plot twists and it kept people guessing so you would come back the next year. I remember in the comics they had the toa nuva in the shadows and it said new heroes for next year it made you wonder who else could be heroes besides the Toa Mata? When the Toa Nuva came out it was a brand new concept and the shock that the turaga were once toa and our small behind the scenes matoran friends of jaller, hahli and the rest became toa was so intriguing. The fact that every hero and villain had their own personality and that we could attach or relate to some of them made them special. I personally think the best thing they had going for bionicle was the story. People say it was so complicated and it really was especially to a younger audience, but it was an amazing story line nonetheless. Look at DC comics. How many times has the DC universe been rebooted? 7? It's a lot but it still appeals to people of all ages because the story is so intricate. It captured people who liked robots, powers and mystical genres while adding an immersive story.

Bro I never could explain to people what Bionicle meant when I was younger... I got literal chills when you said Biological chronicle.

While I was aware of Christian Faber's involvement in things, I was unaware of the tumor part. Bionicle just became that much more heartwarming for me. :)

Bionicle was the freaking bomb when I was a kid! Me and my brothers started off with the Hordika and had tons of fun with them. I just recently got the pieces that I need to rebuild Vacama together ( well, mostly, I couldn't find his second leg or his torso because the latter broke. ) I substituted the missing pieces with brown ones, so he's pretty much just the way I remember ( a little worn with age, but still cool! )

Let us all have a moment of silence for bionicle. And by all, I mean me, because this comment section is dead.

What a powerful revelation regarding Faber. I initially disliked BIONICLE's official end but I have greater respect for it now knowing its inspiration. Excellent video as always, guys.

I remember Roboriders!! I only had one, Onyx, had no idea what it was but thought it was cool anyways. Never knew it was one of the ancestors of Bionicle. Also, really really deep. Never knew about Christian Faber's tumor and how Bionicle came to be like that.

Eazy thing to understand: Lego started to ran out of ideas so they stopped and "cancelled" bionicle... they started to prototype on customers with HF with that new joint system... they will bring it up in 2015 since they knew people liked bionicle

its funny how lego just realised throwing out there most popular franchise was a bad idea (have you seen the new 2015 bionicles?) And I loved that bionicle online game... so much nostalgia.

....I have a lot more respect for that giant robot now. Before I thought it was some stupid "twist" that Lego pulled out of it's butt, but now I see that it was a representation of Micheal Faber (forgive me if I got the name wrong). While I still thought the robot was a weird thing to put in the world of BIONICLE, and took away some of that world's mysticism, I have a bit of respect for the robot now. It has more depth to it than just a giant rising from the ocean. Awesome episode TTV, keep 'em up!
