I think 2008 was pretty cool, but 2009 was pretty boring. It (2009) has some good characters, but it was as Legomationstudios (remember him?) once summed it up pretty well "the place was sandy and desert, that's where they fought."
I'd say over all, after 2003 it was a very slow decline, they had better movies and the sets had better articulation post 2003 but they just weren't as cool and didn't have the same mystique that they did back when the internet wasn't very accessible.
6:07 Brutaka and Axton are hella cool yeah, but you didn't even mention Vezon + Fenrakk! Not that it changes anything, still an S-Tier wave. Oh man, the Kardas combiner was sick too.
He forgot Lhikan and Kikanalo in '04 too, to be fair I also sometimes forget them as the Kikanalo was super forgettable and was basically an excuse to put Lhikan in a set, so I forget Lhikan is technically a titan
*Sees the thumbnail* "Oh wow, the Mistika are in S tier! Those were my favorite as a kid! I'm so glad oboe likes them too!" *Watches the video* F- tier Oh.
Okay, I came here to comment on the "Hordika" being in S-Tier on the thumbnail (Because that is objectively wrong.) But I'm glad to see that the thumbnail is inaccurate, and may actually watch the video now.
I think they actually used Ekimu's mask for the now-canonized Artakha build. Greg Farshtey or somebody did some contests to decide the official appearances/builds of iconic characters like Artakha and Toa Helryx
I always liked the Phantoka and Mistika Toa but I also was very young when I was into Bionicle a lot so I judged them not as successors to the Toa Nuva but as their own new thing, and I thought they were pretty cool in that role.
Don’t forget Axonn and Brutaka also came with Vezon and Kardas, which then combined to make the Kardas Dragon. It was the pinnacle of Bionicle in my opinion, three of the most badass looking Titans combined to make the single most badass set besides the Axalara T9
They were just worse Rahkshi. They weren't even the elite forces or anything just the mindless drones of Metru Nui police. And with the spider form and pincers it just seemed like the design team wanted to make something like Visorak. And their powers sucked. Each one of them were just mind control with extra steps all of them. Oh this Rahki has the power to make you obey commands while this one has the power to suggest you to do something. SO ORIGINAL
@@koichidignitythief7429 If we go off how they were originally supposed to be and not Lego saying “we need you to make more variations” there are only 2 types of Vahki and that’s my headcannon. Personally I think the head design and disk launcher is cool. In story they are also cool. But they shouldn’t have been the main “villains” for the Metru Nui to fight. Since their main purpose was kidnapping and keeping matoran inline, which is how I played with them.
Inika was actually my favorite line, it was the first time they felt more like action figures with their posability, unhindered by gears. The masks I felt were very unique and the marketing for them were super cool. Inika Nuparu will always be one of my favorite set.
the masks sucked and the only redeemable thing about it is how the comic and book tried to salvage that horrible design into an interesting plot point. Otherwise it was lame seeing that under the mask there were just blank while the previous builds and even the pirakha made it seem that there really was something underneath.
@@purpleboye_ In my honest opinion controversial doesn't always mean cringy, while they make strong points, they're being treated as "that one weird kid" of the community.
Late reply but yeah Granted there's not much keeping any set from articulating like they do so a lot of the appeal is just like "hey they can do weird articulations canonically!" but the way they have like quadruped and folded-up storage modes is cool, and something about them really conveys that, even among a bunch of biomechanical characters, they are unique in being completely robotic.
I’m pretty sure the first Mata-Nui was representative of the second wave of Glatorian, but honestly I don’t think that would’ve moved its position at all
“Takanuva is like the best character ever” and he’s right Damn this list is pretty great, I wish we could’ve heard what he thinks about Vezon and Fenrakk/Kardas
Vahki, Toa Nuva, and Toa Hordika deserve to be higher if you ask me. If I had to pick a favorite set, while it would be hard I’d have to go with the Vezon sets.
Great thing about glatorian wave is skopio set. I got one as a new year present back in the day and started right away, assembled like half of it in 4 hours, got tired and went sleep, then finished next day. It was freaking massive and very cool
Bro you serously did the Vahki dirty, they were super cool toys. They could shoot, were dual wielding claws and could turn into a spider. The black one was my first bionical.
Love the list but I think those Toa Nova should be higher at least A tier.. they all look so good and strong, masks are unique and strange, the silver weapons and extra armor makes it feel like the bionicle are at war now, and makes them feel more real if that's even a thing lol. Idk they just seem like the real deal toa after the first toas. Love the vid and subbed!!
Wasnt mentioned in the vid but I think the best part of the mistika waves were the 3 big boi vehicles cuz holy moly were those amazing. Understandable that the vehicles doesnt really count for a "wave" but those deserve a special tier by itself as sets.
bionicles used to be my life when i was a kid. thank you for reminding me of them. also you ranked my favourite set, the mistika, an f tier :( my mom gave me the red one as a birthday present and played with it for so long until it broke.
Toa Nuva and Phantoka are pretty goated. I grew up watching the Bionicle movies so the Nuva masks and armor were super cool to have. And then Phantoka came out which seemed like Bionicle was going back to its roots with the mask designs and making them seem more familiar, for the most part. It helped they brought back the OGs
You put the 2006 Bionicle's in a good letter THANK YOU this is why I sub to your channel I will watch your videos every day. Why i ficking love the 2006 Bionicle's the rap the inika and their cool song you my friend are a true Bionicle fan.
Anything without a gear function is heresy. The Gen 2 toa (both 2015 and 2016) did a phenomenal job at combining articulation with a function. The Inikia build...that was a war crime.
I remember having the green guy and the yellow guy you brought up. I also had that black vampire dude, but I only have his chest peice now lmao I also had Mata Nui for sure, Lotta good memories of opening and building the bionicles I'd get for Christmas at my grandparents house
I always felt like my favorite toa lines were Metru - cause they’re GOATed, definitely - and Hordica. They were so unique and so monstrous, and I absolutely loved the assymetry, that was awesome
Idk I kinda like the Vahki. I loved having them crawl around the furniture and the walls and I could get them to perch off ledges which I really enjoyed. Them having dual swords was cool and the disk launcher is still one of my favorite Bionicle projectile weapons for being so simplistic yet so effective.
Forgot Vezon and Fenrak (Kardas), Gadunka and the Other Giant monster from the barraki wave, the unaffordable vihikles from 2009 and the big sets from the Glatorian era (that one red dinosaur and a couple vihikles).
When I was a kid I tried so hard to like the Hordika since I loved Bionicle 3, but the designs really weren't good. Great tier list overall, you're doing god's work by putting out this much Bionicle content
