The focus of the Bionics Institute 2023 Innovation Lecture was to bring med tech leaders together to explore how Australia can accurately measure innovation, boost the med tech ecosystem and strengthen connections
Over 300 key members of the sector came together at the RACV City Club in Melbourne to hear from keynote speakers Kylie Walker (CEO, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering) and Dr Andreas Fouras (Founding CEO, 4DMedical).
Following the keynotes, our Innovation Panel, comprised of Dr Jill Freyne (Deputy Chief Scientist, CSIRO) and Christine Ann Williams (former GM of the Innovation Metrics Review) alongside our keynote speakers, had honest and robust discussions with our CEO Robert Klupacs.
Together, they delved into a number of critical areas needing addressing in order to support successful innovation in Australia, including:
- Having appropriate metrics for innovation, and measuring what we optimise
- Continuing to grow our country’s skilled workforce to overcome STEM sector shortages
- Developing an appetite for risk, particularly in relation to funding
- Increased collaborations between academia, industry and government.
