WARNING: Extreme Spoilers
The players confrontation with Andrew Ryan as well as the Atlas speech after. Much brighter than the previous video uploaded, although this one doesn't have the lead-in like the other did. Audio and video are very slightly out of sync, but not enough to ruin it. Nevertheless, enjoy!
Playing through on Hard with my computer, filmed using FRAPS.

Why does Andrew Ryan remind me of Walt Disney

The developers said he was specifically designed from Disneys personality, beliefs, and appearance.

pretty sure they said he was based on the industrialist Howard Hughs

Andrew Ryan was based off Walt Disney, Ayn Rand, Howard Hughes, & Charles Foster Kane. His name is an anagram for the name "Ayn Rand" & there's even more evidence besides his name for example there's an other villain in Bioshock named "Atlas" as in "Atlas Shrugged" which was a book she wrote also the game critiques "Objectivism" which was an ideology that she created.

"Truly obeying." There is no such thing as truly obeying; it's just submitting or going along with a law or somebody's authority, regardless of what came before it. I'm not quite sure you understood what Mr. Blonde meant, and taking a 'literal' approach to something as metaphorical as this is stupid in my opinion. If he really had a choice to break away from his genetic code, but he chose to obey, he is stopping the metaphorical metamorphosis: from a slave to a man. He would remain a slave. A slave whom is controlled by whomever uses the phrase, regardless if he can disobey it or not, as he is ultimately 'obeying.' The whole point of what Ryan was saying is to break away from the norms; the control other people have over you, to break away and make your own life, have free-will, be your own *man.* It's just like how some people 'obey' doing work, we have a choice to decline it, but some people are compelled to do it. A slave is a person whom has to be obey his owner, genetically-forcefully. So once again, regardless if he could decide, but he decided to obey time and time again, he is a slave because he is obeying his owner. Once again, opting to take a 'literal' approach to something such as this is utterly stupid and comes off as pretentious to me.
@1Insurgency1
@1Insurgency1 8 лет назад
tappedswine tappedswine in a nutshell - attempts to be pretentious online and stupidly literal because he cannot intellectually resort to anything else, especially metaphors - ego relies on correcting other people, or being painfully and cringefully literal, when it's utterly stupid to begin with - ultimately has to prove himself to others, and perhaps even himself, as being 'intelligent' is the only thing that matters to him, as he ultimately centralises his whole self-esteem upon his 'intelligence.' - get's butthurt when a person of logic refutes his literal points and gives up all together and throws a hissy fit - when somebody shows an inkling of intelligence, he'll think they are being pretentious 1Insurgency1 in a nutshell - enjoys intellectual and deep debates - is devoted about debating - hates malicious morons, but has no quarrel with morons in general, only malicious ones - hates tappedswine

In ordering Jack to kill him, not only does Ryan choose to die on his own terms, but manages to warn Jack of what he really is, and in doing so, sets in motion events that guarantee that he'll take Atlas with him. Calculating to the end.

These words changed my whole perspective of this game. And it gives you a sense of confusion, as through out this game, throughout all games, you have the false knowledge that you make choices, that you don't obey the master, but instead you do. You don't make choices, the choices are ultimately made by them game itself. By the master. And side note, when my teacher told me to get up and discuss the difference between slaves and white men during slavery in america, I said "The white man choose, the black man obeyed."

he is a villain but not the main one like we were led to believe. he killed the prostitute that birthed his son, that pretty evil to me. this was before he knew the boy was sold to Frank Fountain mind you so he did it because he viewed his seed as his property that was stolen.

When I went to this scene, I was literally amazed by the whole thing. The twist to the story, the amazing speech he says. This is probably one of my favorite scenes in any video game. Meeting Ryan was awesome...and after everything he said, I was trying to make sense of it all. I followed "Atlas's" orders after all of it, still trying to put the pieces together (Or maybe I was just in denial) and the moment I heard Atlas with his evil laughter... God, that was awesome. A lot of video game plot twists don't faze me or I see them coming, but this did it. A game hasn't done so since.

Ryan accepted that his death was inevitable after seeing his city in ruins, and after finding out that his own son, turned into a genetically modified assassin was coming for him. He chose death on his own terms. He didn't need to say "Would you kindly" after every word he said, just saying it once was really good enough. You notice that Fontaine doesn't say it every time he tells Jack to do something.

He also didn't say "Would you kindly" when he told Jack to "Run. Stop. Turn" Ryan, I think, was demonstrating his whole "A man chooses, a slave obeys," thing, by choosing to die as opposed to obeying the fate given to him by Fontaine.

Damn this game. Damn that one moment. You spend the whole game thinking you're in charge, that the words they keep flinging at you are just atmosphere, that Ryan's constant asking whether you're a man or a slave is just his rambling like any other villain in any other game and then you realize no - it's more. Ryan, in the end, died a man.

My high school English teacher played this game and for our vocab synonyms, he put a background of Rapture on the powerpoint (since one of the word's synonyms WAS rapture) and yet, his hook that he makes for each slide's title (usually a pun, like Synful for a synonym day) did not say "Would you kindly copy these synonyms?" Such a wasted opportunity, but I'm glad he knows this game.

It's been mentioned before. You can even find a VITA-Chamber and First-Aid vendor hidden behind one of the walls. I figured this was just to stop the player from dying but someone also said the chamber was de-activated, as if by Ryan to make his death permanent. It would be pretty anti-climatic if you found him hiding behind the wall afterwards. :D

Actually, he was being controlled by Fontaine with the phrase 'Would you kindly'. Remember, the package had a note that had 'Would you kindly' on it. As for Atlas, Fontaine was using that before Jack came to Rapture, to trick everyone into thinking Frank Fontaine was dead. Like Fontaine said: Never play a man for the short con when you can play 'em for the long one. Atlas is the longest con of all.

Many people say that Ryan wanted to remove the free will of the people and have control of all their minds and thoughts. However, it is explicitly mentioned in the game that he values free will as his top priority as he does the aspirations and determination of individualistic pursuits. Although he does use pheromones he does not assume direct control over denizens like Fontaine does with Jack. If anything the anger in his speech at the end when he sees his son as a pitiful slave reveals this.
