I wish they'd go back to calling bipolar disorder manic depression. It's annoying how people throw the word bipolar around like it's a joke. My bf also has bipolar and he does. I feel like manic depression is a more accurate term for the disorder anyways.

People do throw around the term bipolar a lot. I did a video talking about the history of the nomenclature going from manic depression to bipolar disorder. You can watch it in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4WXbvzELws0.html

I agree because I definitely deal with manic depression episodes and I have an appointment coming up Tuesday. My boyfriend is growing tired of my craziness, but he is very understanding. My concern was I didn’t want him to think “I’m crazy” and he said “I won’t think that I love you” he’s a keeper we’ve been together for 1 year and 4 months

I’ve learned more about my condition in the last few months watch your videos than I have in doctors offices. It’s obvious you do these videos more for passion than clout. I wish young ppl like me found more doctors like you that genuinely want to help guide their patients to the right kind of care. Thank you, Dr. Tracy.

@@finity9316 I was diagnosed with manic depression, which is technically bipolar type two… I was able to properly break down my symptoms and take control on my narrative without the doctors treating me as a test rat. @shireenrahimi8212
@shireenrahimi8212 Год назад
@@finity9316 SSRI’s messed me up big time. I was diagnosed with depression multiple times…. What I learned thanks to Dr. Tracy Mark is that manic depression and things like major depression disorder are NOT the same. Manic depression is a mood disorder, not a depression disorder. One thing we have to remember is that depression, anxiety, and ADHD kinda come with a lot of different disorders. It *feels* like doctors like to start with basic depression diagnosis and treat people like us as test rats. It’s like we’re in this process of trail and error… don’t give up on yourself. Keep going! Keep searching and learning. Another thing I realized was, once I finally got the right medication it didn’t mean all my problems went away. The ruminating thoughts and depression decreased but my brain was sooooo accustomed to PANIC, there was times my brain was like “hmmm I’m not sad but I’m so used to being sad. What do I do??” learning new life skills and re-wiring our brain goes beyond the medication. I personally didn’t have much luck with therapist. I’ve found a lot of comfortable in educating myself and regaining control of my narrative. I was diagnosed in Feb. 2021 but it was only a few months ago where the mixture of the right dose at the right time finally came together. Contact me anytime IG @hypekitty_ I promise it will get better ♥️ just remember it’s all a process and YOU will be your biggest advocate!!!

I am have been diagnosed bipolar 2. I had never had a manic episode but I can see the period where I felt elated and high self esteem, issues at work, constant arguments bc staff would submit work substandard quality , I felt superior than others in intellectually , my Psychiatrist says these can be manic episodes. I also had family who has passed recently including my mom and a nephew to a drug overdose. It has been si rough. I was in efexxor xr for 9 months I was considered dysthiymoc and with GAD and now I am bipolar. I am so crushed by this diagnosis. I was on abilify for 3 weeks in December and then was switched to seroquel which gave me suicidal thinking and hopelessness as well as lack of appetite. I am at my wits end trying meds. I feel depressed and wake up at 3 am with abilify and have to take xanax to deal with the anxiety, I get nauseous and gag when I get up. I need a med to calm me down too..

Your videos have been very helpful for me - I'm trying to support my older sister who has decided to get back into treatment for bipolar because of a depressive episode. She's been struggling with this disorder since I can remember. She's had better and worse years (sometimes being misdiagnosed, sometimes being on medication etc) but this period is especially hard for her being a single mother and having been fired from her dream job almost a year ago. I've talked to her and she agreed to go to her previous psychiatrist with me and possibly start therapy to help with her relationships and routines. I would love to see a video on how loved ones should and shouldn't talk to people with bipolar disorder.

For me, severe depression is much worse than a full blown manic episode. My 2 manic episoses turned into severe paranoia. Both episodes landed me in a hospital. My mania was put under control quickly with meds. My last depression took over a year before it disappeared. I took a course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and recieved R.T.M.S. treatments.(Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation). I was put on a number of different meds. I m not sure if any of this helped. Perhaps my Depression just played itself out. If you are in a Depression, it will end eventually. After my last Depression, I completed a W.R.A.P. program. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan). I found it helpful. Hypomania is great while it lasts. Take care everyone.

Depression is such a tricky thing to fix. Theres so many factors it could be anything. It could bc because of an attachment you’re missing, it could be that you’re hungry, it could be a nutrient deficiency like Vit D or Magnesium or B vitamins, it could be certain foods triggering it, it could be that you have an idle mind/no productive distractions, it could be a irregular sleep schedule, literally anything. Its so hard to manage some days. Gotta find the thing that fixes it. For me, I get depressed and panic because I havent eaten or got good sleep.

I developed Anxiety about 15 years ago with a devastating life event. The great thing about this particular video is that all the meds that you said were the best for dealing with exactly what I'm dealing with were right on the spot. I already thought so. My own psychiatrist is really good. And I do regular therapy as well. For the most part I feel pretty well maintained, but changes happen Not too long ago, I was having a nice, very productive and positive (from my POV) mania wave. I was studying better. Getting a lot of important tasks done, being creative, having great times with friends and then something completely unrelated but very negative happened and I took the A-Train to Crazytown. And I didn't even realize it at the time. The results were very negative. Your info here was extremely helpful. Thank you.

Thank you so much for answering my question in this video! Interesting you brought up rapid cycling - I brought that up to my doctor and he said “it’s just a classification of bipolar disorder, it doesn’t change how we treat it”. But it sounds like, based on what you said, that it might change how the illness is treated. I’ve also brought it up during hospitalizations - because I know I cycle at least four times a year (and have since I was a teenager), and the response I get is nothing - they never think much of it... It’s frustrating. Since reaching out to you, I’ve been taken off rexulti and put on latuda. I was on abilify a couple years ago, and it was the only drug I was on where I saw a big change, but had to go off because of side effects. You brought up abilify a lot in this video - maybe if latuda doesn’t work, it’s something I can revisit. What you said about lamictal is very interesting to me (still on that). I so appreciate you taking the time to make this video! I wish I had a doctor like you!
@DrTraceyMarks
@DrTraceyMarks 4 года назад
You’re so welcome Faith. A retrial of Abilify may be in order perhaps at a lower dose and in combination with the Lamictal. If you took the Abilify in the past with something else that other drug could’ve affected side effects. Also different generic versions can result in different side effects. But let’s see how things work out for you with the Latuda. Best wishes.

My experience in the mental health system extends back to my first stay in a Navy psyche ward in 1972. I know it goes back to the near dark ages in psychiatry and meds. There was only 1 drug, thorazine. It was one size fits all. Then again it seemed that everyone was labelled paranoid schizophrenic as that was kind of the catch all label. My advice, don't get freaked out by the old "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest' paranoia. The System is much improved and Nobody is Out to get You or even Control You. The vast majority of Dr. and nurses are there to help, listen and learn...

I started on Lamictal back in February for my bi-polar disorder. Over the last 6 months my doctor increased my dosage of Lamictal from 100mg to 300mg. Looking back now, I had a psychotic break when it was increased to 250mg where I had debilitating anxiety attacks and ended up in a mental ward where I went into mania and had a regressive episode. After I got out of the hospital, he put me on 300mg and my anxiety and depression got so bad that I couldn’t sleep in my own bed or go a day without a depressive meltdown. After discovering myself that the Lamictal was what was making me worse and worse, my doctor has put me on Abilify and I’m staying on the 15mg of Remron. I’m hoping this all works. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I have just learned I have been suffering from severe bi polar disorder my entire life. Was probably triggered growing up in what I thought was a normal household and learned through therapy it was the opposite. My bipolar brought me to the point of thinking all doctors are evil and medicine doesn't work. My psychiatrist prescribed trileptal. Worked like a charm by the 2nd day. But I struggle making myself to take when I feel better and relapse back on my self medication substance kratom(it got me off of years of severe substance abuse). This is how dangerous being untreated is... I've convinced myself I can self medicate but anything a doctor gives me is going to harm me. People. Please seek treatment before its too late. Im still struggling but I have begun my journey. It's so hard. But I pray for solution.

My first experience with a psychiatrist was for what I thought was going to be an ADHD evaluation. Instead, he suggested I had bipolar 2 Was it likelihood of CPTSD and probably also had ADHD. But because of the bipolar 2 He wouldn't be able to treat the ADHD yet. I hadn't mentally prepared for this conversation whatsoever. I had no idea. It hit me really really hard in that moment. He was so cold, almost kind of snide. Very unprofessional. When I asked him how the combinations he was suggesting worked, he replied " You won't gain weight from them". I said, despite me being overweight I'm not concerned about that. I want to feel better. I'm trying to ask you the physiology behind the medications and how they interact. He frustratingly said he didn't know that part of it, he just knew what worked and didn't work because that was his job. I felt really cornered and uncomfortable and frustrated. I couldn't process the situation. I started shaking and crying. I asked him if we could just look into ADHD because I really felt like it was the executive dysfunction that was the biggest hurdle in issue in my life. I can handle the depression. For the most part I've gotten better at managing mania as well. I don't make crazy decisions etc. It doesn't affect my relationships in the sense of how I treat people. I'm accountable for my actions etc. He gave me a paper ADHD evaluation that apparently scored pretty dang high on which I knew I would. He seemed really aggravated with me. He said that we could try strattera for the time being and see how it goes. I was so traumatized from this experience I have been rapid cycling ever since with extremely low periods of depression. I've noticed the depression inside it's all time worse a day or two right before my period. I'm literally suicidal. At this point, I'm definitely convinced he was right about the bipolar diagnosis although I wasn't ready to accept it at the time. Especially since his bedside manner was so disgusting. I don't know what to do now. I'm so overwhelmed. I feel like there's no hope. I really appreciate your video but even after watching this I feel like there's no hope for getting better. I have a child. Everything I do is so that her life is better. But she has mental health issues as well and she's only 4. I used to think my reason for staying around was to make sure she had a better life and she had a mom. But after all of this I feel like even worse. Like what's the point. I'm only going to cause her more grief. My dad died. He committed suicide. Runs in the family right? It hurts that he's gone. But honestly, I manage okay. I feel like I would do less damage to her by just not being here. My entire family has severe mental health issues. Her dad's family treats her so good. I don't treat her bad either. I love her to pieces. I do everything I can for her. She's everything to me. But it's not fair to her. For anybody reading this. I'm not going to do anything "bad". I'm just really overwhelmed and feeling quite hopeless.. The more I learn the more hopeless I feel against this. I really wish it was just the ADHD. I was finally starting to feel like I could breathe until this diagnosis. Just being validated regarding executive dysfunction. But now, knowing I can't even treat the ADHD and try to experiment with like 10 different medications... I don't think I can do this.

I told my doctor on day one that I knew if a medication had major warnings about weight gain, I would become non-compliant so quickly there would be no point in prescribing them. I explained that I was entirely ready for help and was very open to medications but I just know that even in remission, my ED has boundaries. I don't work with physicians who can't accept me knowing that about myself. I think the honesty and transparency is growth, especially because when I have remained compliant, I've stopped eating and it's made the medication less effective. My new doctor heard me, respected me, and has worked with me to find the right meds since this diagnosis, which has also helped in accepting the diagnosis. I worried a lot that being bipolar would mean I couldn't be taken seriously. It's possible.

Complex PTSD can very very often be misdiagnosed as Bipolar 2. I was misdiagnosed, mis-drugged, polydrugged. This happens to many people. Once I was put on benzos and antidepressants for anxiety, the symptoms multiplied, so I was put on more and more drugs... I looked and presented more and more ill. This went on for decades. Until I began to wean off all the drugs. All the disorders I was diagnosed with have disappeared. I kid you not. Everything disappeared except for the original issues-- anxiety and undiagnosed CPTSD. CPTSD can very often be misdiagnosed as ADHD as well. Many clinicians get many disorders wrong. ***This is very important*** in answer to the title of this video, why aren't my medications working?
