Bireli has been playing those Yamaha Pacifica's for a number of years now and he really puts the "you need an expensive guitar" lie. I have the same model Pacifica too and I use a setup/luthier guy here in NYC who does all the big guys - J.Scofield, Will Lee, Mayer, etc and he always says "That's a really great guitar!" of the Pacifica when I bring it in while always saying "Yeah, it's kinda ok" about most of my high end pricey "boutique" guitars... so, you know...
@@BrianDonnelly68 I love Bireli for that too. I bought myself a 120 Euro Harley Benton strat. I upgraded the tuners and added a Lil 59 humbucker, replacing the neck single coil. It might be the best guitar I have ever owned (and I have owned Fenders, Gibsons etc... ).
Anyone know hat bridge that is on Birelis Pacifica at 1:10? I have one of these but it has a wilkinson bridge. love the look of the one he has on there.
When I was learning jazz I used to dislike modal pieces because I felt there wasn't enough harmonic support for lead lines. I thought there was too much openness to stagnant chord movement. All the Things was a great vehicle for playing neat arpeggios and lines and licks over because it has a unique progression. As I get older, however, I have come to appreciate pieces with fewer changes. I guess I prefer the soloist to create melodies freely without the need to harmonize ever single change. I still like this performance, however.
Yamaha instruments play in tune Straight Out of the Box. and we all know that if you're as good a player as Bireli It doesn't make that much difference What you play.
