Ken, thank you, the artists and the Lady from KC for an exquisite dialogue. Charles McPherson is a conduit to a field of magic where all geniuses reside. I am proud to know you Ken. Thanks.

I love this panel discussion The points coming up about the human dimension of Bird, especially from Charles McPherson, are really deep. It is really true that Bird transcended craft and idiom - and approached something that was essentially spiritual. Just like the other stars on the top of the Jazz Pantheon: John Coltrane, Bud Powell, etc. And those at the top are actually few. One of the deepest discussions about Bird and his legacy I have ever seen. Great points from all of them. Thanks a lot for this

Of course, I too appreciate McPherson’s commentary on Parker. But if you are looking for a musician who carries on Parker’s tradition in a really creative and contemporary way, the one and only master is Steve Coleman. However, he is as much underground as Parker was. Institutions such as the Lincoln Center seem to be unable or unwilling to catch the true creative tradition represented by people like Parker, Coltrane etc. They miss Steve Coleman pretty much as they would have missed Charlie Parker in his days. That has to be said, I think.
