I am legit worried this is going to turn into some scientology story, the souls thing was giving crazy people vibes. Same Vibes i get from scientologists
There wasn't actually souls or anything leaving people. That was just the mind tricks of the creatures. He ends up not seeing the light leaving the body near the end when he was overcoming them.
He broke out off it when he realized it was bullshit. Sebastian killed himself before the monsters could fully take over and that’s why he didn’t see the “soul” leaving his body
i think its his faith that is fading. when he lied to the man at the dinner room and told him to take his blindfold off, the guy died but he didnt see any soul coming out. his faith was fading at that moment, and you can also see evidence of that when his daughter image begins to flicker
@@firstlast9846 true. But sabastian is the main character we follow. If you don't like his personality/actions or don't sympathize with him it's difficult to like the film, especially when his character redemption arc felt rushed and unearned
If the trauma of him losing his daughter immunized him from desire to harm himself then why aren't more people immunized. You would think watching several people hurt themselves and others in front of you would be just as traumatizing. Why wasn't Mallory immunized after seeing her sister die in front of her? Seems like the writers wanted an easy answer to him being a bad guy but not a "bad guy"
Because not everyone is the same. Mallory was heartbroken from her sisters death but she didn't really break like Sebastian did from his daughters death. You have to remember that people grieve differently. Mallory was just never the type of person to break like that and she's use to losing people. Her roommate left her with a baby, if I'm remembering correctly there was also something with her father, she didn't even really care that much for her baby until he was born, and her mans died towards the end of the movie. She was a more strong willed character than Sebastian I'd say. But who knows maybe if Mallory had lost her kids it could've been a possibility that she'd break like he did. When watching movies like this you kinda have to open your mind to how different people are/can be rather than just seeing them as characters. Even the seers are all different. Same goal but they're still different and not all seers would've changed like Sebastian did. Sebastian had a daughter so he sympathized with the little girl, she was the key because the women alone wasn't enough to change him. Last thing. He wasn't a bad guy or a "bad guy". He was being manipulated by forces that he didn't understand. There is a reason why the seers are people with a mental illness or broken people because they're easier to manipulate. Sebastian thought he was doing good. That's a point that some people seem to miss. He didn't kill anyone out of hatred and even in the end he only killed the other seers to protect the two.
I liked it better in the first one how it was people who had experienced complete mental breaks (often prior to the incident) were the ones that could see. Their minds were more malleable to change and chaos and we're not as easy to overwhelm at once and break.
@@wakaneutThe main aspect all seers share is a predisposition to being sustainable to manipulation. In other words the creators are actively choosing this type by appearing to them in a way that they find more pleasing rather than something that drives them to end their life as the main weakness of these creatures is their inability to directly engage with their surroundings, so these people can do this for them. The biggest factor we have yet to learn is the reasoning these creatures are doing this.
I truly recommend people to watch this movie several times, because reading comments it seems many people didn't understand it. The creatures werent angels, they weren't aliens either, or maybe they are, but the point is nobody knows what they truly are. The image they show of themselves to each person, was based on each person fears, grief, experiences. Sebastian watched them as angels just because he is a religious man, and he needed to believe right after what happened to his daughter, but the creatures weren't angels. They just use each person beliefs and fears and grief, to control each person mind. Nobody has seen their real image yet
I agree with that too, but that opposes what they always say in the movie "They're beautiful isn't it?" How can be your fears and griefs became beautiful to you alone?
@@bretinthemaking6897 but not fears in the horror movie type, you can have fear of losing somebody, or of having treated somebody badly, or if being a bad person in general, or if feel guilty... Notice what the marriage couple heard in their minds when the creatures manipulated them, she had cheated on him in the past, and the creatures used that against them, she heard him insulting her, he heard again how she cheated on him... Those are fears
I enjoyed it too. The twist with the daughter and him being a seer got really drew me in. Like you say, it won't change the world, but it was good. Perfered some parts to the original.
This sequel and the book sequel are totally different. You can tell the studio was well aware of the upcoming strike. They instead did a spin off in Barcelona. People who work in the industry should be worried. With foreign tv shows becoming popular so fast, the strike will last well into next year.
I do think they are also interdimensional creatures from a different reality than ours. Very lovecraftian but just think of beings that could potentially live on other planets and times of space.
Agreed. They might even be coming in peace, but don't know that their mere "dimensional incursion" f*cks up the human brain in that specific way (suicide).
Sequel better than the original is unprecedented. I really love the dude’s haunch on the creatures being quantum entities that are in superposition all the time
I think that you hit the major points very well, Paul... One theory that I have involves the man that saw the entities and stabbed himself in the stomach. The man looked at Sebastian as if he knew that Sebastian was tricking him into looking at the creatures. So, before the man could fully be possessed, the man intentionally takes himself out, which may be why Sebastian did not see the light leave the man's body... Another theory is that the lights are illusions made by the fake daughter to make Sebastian believe that he is a biblical shepherd. Perhaps the entities may or may not be seraphs, but yes, it is strange that they would need to trick people into looking at them just to get the people to take themselves out. Interdimensional beings is a good theory, but that just draws more attention to how those soldiers were able to capture an entity at the end... Same rating: 7/10.
See it's clear that they are in open space where day light is visible. So they can make a container that shuts down immediately when the entity is perceived at Least there are various physical signs to be aware of their presence
Good or bad, I'm just grateful that they tried something different with the sequel instead of following the formula. That's refreshing. I'm not sure how I feel about Bird Box becoming a "cinematic universe." I feel like that's the new trend these days for films. A few years ago it was prequels. Everything had a prequel. Now it's cinematic universes. Whatever.
In other words this is a realistic alien invasion science fiction film. Because if aliens really do come and decide we aren't worth it and get rid of us we do not stand any chance of even harming them much less winning.
My guess is that, the seer guy that was strapped on the bed. Stumbled on that tower and tried to use the tram. Notice how they securely checked claire for signs of being a seer. The seer guy probably got caught and immobilized quickly when it arrived at the castle
They probably turned one of their own. Tie them and forced them to look. If you observed, this place eas controlled by military and the girl's mom had to have permission to see her daughter Sofia. All the people in this place was quite and working.
I hope the third movie show how the creatures or the entyties looks like, in this one, sebastian see one like an angel with 6 wings, it would be interesting to see for the other perspective
The people behind the movie already showed what it's supposed to look like (and its online too) and were even gonna show us but they'd opted not to in the end because it kept making the lead actress laugh because she couldn't take it seriously, and really it does look dumb and funny.
The twist is good but.. It needed to kept down.. If we are supposed to belive sebestian and truly be sad for his position.. We need to be under the illusion just like him.. Us being aware that he's killing everyone.. Makes him unlikeable.. And you don't want to root for him... I didn't, it needed to be written and shown like sebestian was.. Broken and confused. Revealing at some pivotal moment that Anna is long gone.. The people we root for.. We meet a bit too late.. And we don't know them very well..
@@liamblylod5954 he deserves to die, but a heroic death. Too bad he had so much potential in the series if he survived. It would be a great help for the normal people to have a seer in their side
this is what I wanting world war z to be. viewing different countries and how they dealt with the zombies. so I am happy with bird box is going to different countries and seeing different viewpoints.
I rewatch the Bird box 2months before the release of Barcelona and I still can’t look outside whhaahaha but Barcelona somehow explained about those cult and people who can see the creature. All I know what creature looks like is where the first seer guy on first movie draw a black creature on those papers.
If you have read the second book of BIRD BOX called MALLORY you know this second movie does not really relate to what happened in the books. But I found the “conclusion” in book 2 kind of a letdown so maybe this re-direction of the story will go into maybe a more intriguing storyline. However didn’t Sebastian’s character having seen the creatures and surviving break they rules of the premise setup in Bird Box part 1? Anyway the ending with the military factor may well point to ALIENS! I also maybe see a similarity to the REC horror film series in what they did with this film. I give it a B+
We definitely see people survive seeing the creatures in the original. Those that survived were essentially insane prior to seeing them and went around hurting people.
@@lepetitmondedemimi2321Gary. He says when he enters the house that people at the mental asylum went crazy and were forcing people to look at it. I got the impression that Gary was one of the patients that escaped the asylum after seeing the creatures and fully succumbed to his madness.
The biggest question from me is why did the being have to climb the stairs at the climax? It was already shown in the first and this film that they could enter windows from midair, implying they could fly or hover.
That did inherently bother me too. Like.. this things can fly… why not just a camera perspective of it slowly flying up. Better yet. Why haven’t all these seer’s just attacked this places lol. The people defending are at the disadvantage surprisingly lol
@@summerking-wq1sd seems the entity are not connected to each other to pass the knowledge. Even if so I think they can't enter a building without an opening or exposed surface
I saw the notification for this video and watched the movie. 😊 I enjoyed that there was more of an explanation of what the creatures could be. I did not enjoy that they're affecting animals (RIP Dimas, Jonas and rats) - except birds. The altered DNA is a stretch. There could just be immunity. The acting and cinematography was excellent and overall I quite liked it. I hope they do more sequels.
The whole idea of this movie series is actually perfect demonstrated by the speculation surrounding the movie series. We the audience have all made our own assumptions about what is actually being seen by the characters. It plays on our own beliefs about what supernatural creatures would look like. Those who accept them find it in themselves to make everyone else see these divine beings. Which also means that it depends on what YOU as a person believes within yourself. Maybe the guilt of humanity is show to those who have suffered and denied the truth and maybe these beings actually are angels. If not then what would make people of faith more likely to believe and accept these so called “aliens”. As we see the guy who most likely believed in science offed himself b/c he stopped believing what they truly were. And maybe those who believe will live forever. I feel the film put way too many references to the Bible for it to not be correlated. Which in my opinion is the whole point of the movie, with all the signs of divinity humans still reject truth. If those were truly other dimensional beings than regardless of human rejection, they’ll like still come out on top. Just think, we only saw maybe 1-3 different being within 2 movies lol. It’s likely that these being didn’t travel in ships. They were sent by God.
Those creatures were demons deceiving the people feedin off of their fears and using the “seers” as puppets to help kill more people, if they are angels in any way they were fallen angels that were demonic sent by the devil nun of that stuff was of God and if u are a true believer u should kno that
A single human life contains near infinite potential. Plenty of fiction has all sorts of intergalactic space demons harvesting our souls for sustenance.
Can you do a video on the strikes happening now and what this could mean for various films? I feel like you would be able to break it down really well for us uninformed folk/Ryan.
My take on this is that they are some sort of Being from another dimension. It tends to show people their worst fear, or the thing that would truly break them the most. Resulting in people killing themselves to stop it. But for the seers, it shows them whatever they desire most, (for the priest it’s God/Angels, for Sebastian it’s his daughter.) They use what the seers want most to convince them that they are doing good, and that everyone else will also see the “most beautiful” thing. And since they do, they truly believe it. I don’t think the lights or “souls” going up are even real. They were only showed to Sebastian to reaffirm to him that what he was doing was good. That’s why later on when he didn’t see Octavio’s, I think the monster slipped up and forget to show him. Resulting in him ultimately questioning and resisting the monster. The monster doesn’t choose its seers based on any morale code. But simply who can be the most influenced by their greatest desire, that they would do anything for it. priest said himself he was ready to see and embrace it. Sebastian had nothing once his daughter had died. It simply chooses people who have nothing in their mind, so the monster/creature gives them what they want. The creatures use his desire to see/be with his daughter again to make him do what they want (make people see). Sebastian truly believes that the type of miracle being shown to him will be shown to everyone, when in reality they are being shown their worst fears. Sebastian morally does not want to kill people, the “lights” shown to him are to affirm to him that he’s “saving” people. Only when the creature slips and doesn’t show him Octavio’s light does Sebastian realize that these people are not being saved. And thus even tho he can still see his daughter and being promised a reunion, he fights against the creatures will. Sebastian is genuinely a good person.
When the original movie came out, my impression was that the people who killed themselves had “pure souls” while the ones who could see, were already evil at heart. Sebastian flips that narrative on its head. Sebastian is not a bad person, and definitely was not one when he initially seen the monster. But what Sebastian was at the time, was vulnerable. He had lost everything and his one desire in life was to see his daughter again. This presented an opportunity for the monster to use his grief as a way into his mind. The monster doesn’t care if you are good, bad or evil. It cares if it can use your greatest weakness/belief against you to do its bidding.
In PR we have a saying, "estirar el chicle", literally "stretching the gum", referring to chewing gum. Means that if a story plot is stretched too much, it will break, and you can see it when it's thin. A thing I don't like about some series is the soap-opera style, when a lot of time is consumed in emotional stuff. Here, they managed a balance, but I can see the intentions; very common in hispanic productions. There was a mysterious feel to the original, now they're mentioning quantics. Schrodinger's cat wasn't the best way to demonstrate what happens; dead and alive at the same time is impossible, but it's certainly seductive. In reality it's about states and parameters like position or rotation, they can be any and many, but once you turn ON a sensor or camera they fix. This makes a mess of probabilities. So, mixing Schrodinger with emotional memories? How they capture a creature? Kill an interesting and well acted character? You know, he could've been the test subject, as a fitting retribution, then using him for the next chapter. Hmmm...I don't know about a Bird Box Universe; this should go to somewhere interesting and conclusive, otherwise they'll be estirando el chicle.
I think it's because the birds last movie was inside of the box and used as a guide to detect the entity coming. Calm Animals = safe Loud animals = danger is near I'd also like to add that the entity is traveling at a slow rate of speed Birds could just fly away. Except for those gulls at the tram they're not really flying away. Just flying in circles as it is common for them to camp an area or stay in an area as a group.
Thanks for the breakdown, Paul. Unfortunately, I didn't really like the forced injection of religion into the movie. It was better when the alien's origin was ambiguous. Also, these things traveled all over the vastness of space, but they’re stopped by a goddamn island?? It was an asinine way to stop them. Also, what is the use of killing us to harvest our souls? What's the point of having to see them do it? Maybe I'm overthinking the premise of the movie, but it's become silly instead of a tense life-threatening situation.
The aliens origin is still ambiguous...the creatures are not angels, and they don't harvest souls...sebastian is a religious man, he suffered great trauma bc of his daughter death, his mind was affected, and right after that he saw the creatures... So he saw them with the form of angels, bc creatures manifest to each person with different forms, depending on each person grief, beliefs, fears, experiences, etc, to control their minds. The lights Sebastian saw weren't souls, just the creatures manipulating his mind, he was contaminated by the creatures as those who kill themselves, the only difference is that he didn't commit suicide because his mind was altered due to trauma
I have one observation too on why they chose him to look like Jesus, because towards the end when he said "I need to not let them cross" meaning he's going to be the "Protector" which clearly what Jesus is, hence sacrificing himself at the end. Idk just my keen observation.
No with the first one shows us years. I don't think there will be cure and even if there is it will be hard to find people surviving and help them because communication are down.
I dont understand why the movie keeps on saying Montjuic can only be reached by cable car. It's a huge area with many pathways that you can walk up... It's really not all that fortified. And, from where they are in the city, it would have been easier to reach the mountain by foot rather than go all the way to the beach to find the main cable car!
If this were true to life; there would be many more 'seers' The world is full of mentally unwell people, also the creatures also don't end intellectually challenge people.
Overall it's a matter of taste whether u like the first one or this one better. Imo, the first one was good because we dont know anything about it. It's all about the mystery and suspense. The 2nd film, it is also good because they added something to the movie where the antagonist is immune of suicidal thoughts.
I always doubt rotten tomatoes score, but with Bird box Barcelona I could not agree more of a 51% score and not even the invisible creatures could make me watch it again.
After watching your videos for a number of years of being a member for a while I feel like we have similar tastes. I initially skip this movie but I'll probably check it out now just to see how they do the other sideAnd see how they do with a different vantage
I dont think the creatures show the people anything per se that encoureges them to kill themselves, rather i think they induce a sort of trance like state wherein theyre semi lucid but incognicient of their surroundings and may perceive a means of death as a way of acheiving a desired outcome for them in the present moment. Think of it as how pyro from tf2 sees the world, to him hes just Gayley frollicking through rainbow fields accompanied by cherubized versions of his team mates and perceives himself as helping them out or playing with them but in reality hes brutaly murdering them in the most inhumane ways possible, thats what i beleive the experience of being entranced by these creatures is probably like, for some they may be given a vision of a loved one reaching out to them but in reality its the fire under the toppled bus, or the guy banging his head against the bus window could be seeing a vision of a good nights sleep and him just adjusting his head to get into a more comfortable position whilst having no clue whats actually going on around him, i could be totally wrong but hey thats just a theory a... regular old theory nothing more to it
He was questioning if what the creatures and ghost daughter were telling/showing him was real. They were beginning to lose control over his mind meaning it was harder to force him to see/hear whatever they want him to. It's almost guaranteed that they were not Angels or some kind of divine being, they are probably just a 'regular' creature that manipulated him into helping them kill people. I mean regular in the sense that they are not supernatural or spiritual even if we don't understand how they work.
This movie still hasn't answered the question about these entities plaguing the whole enterprise altho i suspect that they just initially made this as a psychological thriller with an ambiguous cosmic force disrupting the world
At 1st i thought them creatures were God sent ... But now Sebastien s daughter is the one using him in an evil way, wait whats going on here .. Am lost now
The ppl who are blind. Still win. Bc they know what's going on but cant see it. Question.. Like what are they doing? chilling somewhere or.. lol. Bc the world isnt on fire or whatever like typical monster movies. Just ppl going crazy
The ending was kinda meh. The ending made the whole entire movie pointless imo, if they're all gonna die because claire and the girl got followed by the entity.
This movie did a lot for me, you see Iv been having a tough time seeing up close recently, stuff like numbers on a remote are a complete blur. So you must understand my surprise when my vision cleared up enough for me to turn this shit off.
Because the entity was still traveling to get there. It has no physical form. And it is not everywhere all at once. It looks like, when Claire knocks the bell of the tram. The entity was alarmed that there were ppl at the top because of the noise and then it traveled to get there
