When there is a snowstorm, it's not just wild birds that find it difficult to forage in the fields and mountains. For example, the situation is the same for squirrels. Hokkaido squirrels, Sciurus vulgaris orientis, do not hibernate, so they have to look for food even on snowstorm days. So this time, the squirrel tries to climb up to the feeding basket suspended from the end of a black iron rod, but unfortunately the surface of the iron rod is slippery so he cannot climb up. The squirrel tries many times to jump onto the vertical bar, but it never reaches the food basket. The squirrel is seriously trying again and again, but it was so humorous that I couldn't help but laugh as I watched it climb the vertical bar and then slip down. Birds have wings so they can fly to food baskets, but what do squirrels that don't have wings?
吹雪になると、野山で餌を採ることが難しくなるのは野鳥に限りません。例えばリスも状況は同じです。エゾリスは冬眠しませんので吹雪の日でも餌を探さないといけません。そこで今回、エゾリスが黒い鉄棒の先に吊るしたBird Feederの餌籠まで登っていこうとしますが、残念ながら鉄棒の表面が滑るので登れません。リスは何回も工夫して鉄棒に飛び付きますが、どうしても餌籠には辿り着けません。リスは真剣に挑戦を繰り返しているのですが、鉄棒に登っても登っても滑り落ちてしまう姿は実にユーモラスで私は思わず笑ってしまいました。鳥たちは羽があるので餌籠に飛んでいけますが、羽がないリスはどうすればいいのでしょうか。

しかし、なんとかして餌を食べたいリスは一生懸命に考えたのでしょう。少し離れた木に駆け登って、餌籠に最も近い枝から勢いをつけて餌籠に向かって大ジャンプ！

Still, I would like to praise this squirrel for not giving up despite repeated failures and finding new way to reach the goal.
いやー大成功です。素晴らしい！ リスは見事に餌籠に飛び付いて無事に餌にありつけました。しかし、そもそも鳥用の餌籠なので網が邪魔をしてリスはそれほど自由に食べることができません。さらに突風が吹いた瞬間、両手で鉄棒を掴んで支えようとしたリスは、その手が滑ってしまい残念ながら地上に滑り落ちてしまいました。それでも、失敗を積み重ねても諦めずに新たな工夫をして目的に辿り着いたこのリスを褒めてあげたいですね。
