OMG Steve, I purchased your 531 page BIF Ebook and I'm only on page 168 so far and seriously... I'm struggling to put it down, or rather I never want it to end. It feels like you know me and have personally written it just for me. It's absolutely fantastic and for anyone thinking about "should I get it" stop thinking and just go on faith. I know this video is also excellent, but firstly there's so much more great content in the book and secondly, reading rather than watching and listening to someone else, just helps you retain information so much easier. Steve, I've got an R6 MKII and your info has got light bulb moments going off for me everywhere. I just had to pause reading and let you know how priceless your book is and tomorrow is going to be the best photography day for me since starting about 7 months ago and I'm seriously excited about putting what I've learnt from you into practice, so thanks millions 👍
You can take 54 minutes to watch this three times over and take it all in. Or you can watch an hour of other folks' videos on this subject and learn half as much. Your choice.
Seriously, this is by far the highest content-to-fluff ratio of any photo tips video this newbie has seen. Other ones are well-intending and the advice (when they get to it) is good, but Jesus get to the point before repeating yourselves 5 times!
Right on target. Without a doubt the best video I have ever seen! I'm gonna watch it taking written notes, with my Nikon 850 sitting right there, lol. The learning never stops
Huge amount of brilliant advice as ever Steve. Even those of us who have been doing this a good while need to listen here, makes you realise where there is room for improvement! Thanks for a great channel.
This is the video I have always been waiting for. Every time I watch your reviews or videos I feel, man! I wish I could take such beautiful photos, these tips will go a long way in my bird photography. Thanks.
I can’t believe how people like Steve spend hours to make such useful and educative videos that are so much useful to beginners like me. I bought NikonD7500 about 2 years ago based on recommendation from one of Steve’s video. Since that day I’m in love with Photography. Thank you Steve!
This is truly a fantastic overview! I've learnt a lot of this by watching loads of videos, trying things out with my camera and scratching my head. The fact that you've distilled so much into one video is very generous. Thanks for sharing!
I've been a professional photographer since the early 80's. over the last 8 or so years I've done a lot of bird photography and find you information well presented and spot on.
Thanks so much, Steve...I am constantly amazed at how you can simplify the complex for us mere mortals, while still inspiring us with your amazing images as examples.
I'am not a bird shooter but I've always marveled and have been in awe of good bird action photography. This was an excellent explanation on how to shoot this type of photography.
Manual with auto ISO is my goto even for performance stage lighting. The light can change dramatically in a moment. I add highlight protection, and I can just concentrate on a good shot and not worry about technology.
So we had these guys who were fishing with a crossbow to help get rid of the carp over taking a local lake. I had my D500 with the 300 F4D (hand held) and was able to get some awesome shots of the turkey vultures in flight feeding on the carp that were thrown up on the land. 1/2000 f4 (sometimes f5.6) netted me some amazing shots of them in flight. I learn so much from your channel!!!! Cheers!
Steve! I was just in Scotland and by following not just this video but your Sony camera settings ebook I had such a great time and way more keepers than I would usually had. I found myself using manual mode and all the custom button settings as recommended by you almost intuitively. Thank you so much!
One of the better educators on the Tube. You make sense, and you don’t assume that the listener knows a lot. Clear, and very well presented articles Well worth the subscribe button!!
Agree, thanks Steve...now all we need is the long anticipated but never appearing Nikon D5 review! You've been such a big fan and user of the D5, but still no review, while every other camera you use does have a review. It would be great to hear why, when and or where you choose to use the D5 over the D850/Z7!
Steve, I bought the Secrets of The Nikon Autofocus System: The Mirrorless Edition. I'm about 3/4 of the way through and I can honestly say this is the best $$ I've spent in a very long time (except for my camera and lens of course)! Congratulations on an extremely well written book, complete with humour. I'm a newbie and still getting wall worthy shots. Thanks for the guidance, I look forward to ordering another book from you. Cheers!!
Another outstanding video Steve, thank you. And for those who don't have his eBooks, get them, worth every penny!!! I learned more than I ever thought possible about my how Nikon really works....and my pictures definitely showed improvement......very well done books...
Hey guy....!! Very good video..! Really good..He managed to cover almost every aspect of the title..Is is a crash course by definition...! Congratulations... Keep like that man..! :)
I've never-ever shot a bird! - But this video (as many many others from Steve) kept me glued to the screen - and I learned a lot! Your videos are just pure gold! So very well - straight to the point and a ton of inspiration :)
Steve - another great video! I have learned quite a lot and appreciate what you do. Your concise, yet informative and easy to understand way of articulating concepts for wildlife photography enthusiasts make them must see viewing. In my opinion they are the best out there. I am a Nikon shooter which makes them doubly relevant for me and will buying your e-books as well.
Always good tips Steve!! I recently learned a new trick that I haven't heard of before. I use a Nikon D500 for my wildlife shooting. (I'm not sure if this tip is achievable with other brands that I'm not familiar with.) I have my D500 set for single point / continuous, back button focus using the AF-On button as you would expect. The new trick is I now have my Joystick set up so when I press it, the camera uses Group + AF. As you well know, Nikon group mode uses 4 AF points in a cluster as 1 point.......so like having 1 large AF point which has upped my keeper rate for sure. This has been working well for me as I use the regular back button (AF-ON) focus for stationary birds and then if the bird takes off, I then move my thumb to the joystick to take advantage of Group + AF while the birds are in flight. I love the challenges of bird photography and enjoy the tips from your videos, so I thought this was an opportunity to maybe give something back. Craig, Alberta, Canada
Another great video by Steve Perry. I have all of Steve's books and video tutorials and I can honestly say that they are the best I have ever seen. His instruction techniques are perfect for me and really impart the information in a clear and interesting manner. Keep them coming.
I just found your channel this week. Its been a real help. Bought a Sigma 60-600 for my Nikon Z50. I was hoping to shoot full auto for a while until comfortable with form factor. Not the case. So here I am learning from this channel. Its the only channel that is helpful so far. Thank you for your efforts and quality!
Thanks for making a video without the fluff and quickfire useful tips. So many videos give you the life story and day to day drudgery of people's lives that no one cares about, interlaced with over long intros and corporate bg music because they think it looks pro, while taking about 3 minutes to get to anything at all useful.
Well done! Thank you for such a fantastic overview. This was really well produced and you covered many excellent points and obstacles that all bird photographers will run into in the field, as well as post-field in our portfolios. Hats off to you, sir!
Excellent instructional video Steve. Lots of valuable tips well packaged and articulated in a less than 20 minute lesson. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise and experience with the rest of us weekend photographers. Much appreciated.
