I went to Bempton Cliffs with my Canon 1D Mark 3 and my Canon 100-400mm L IS Lens to photograph some of the early arriving sea birds. Although March is a little early in the year for Puffins, I did manage to get a couple of really nice photographs of some of the other birds that migrate here for the summer.

Getting out and shoot is the most important part of the budget!

I’d agree with that. Budget and gear don’t really matter as long as you’re having fun.

@ChrisBaitson thank you now to learn to shoot manual ISO because my other camera is a canon 200D, which has Auto ISO but a really slow FPS of 5 FPS 😕

Nice to see more wildlife stuff, mate. I'd love a 100-400 L, but never gonna happen :)

Have a look on the second hand market, they’re not that expensive anymore.

Great video today Chris hoping to get down there in a couple of weeks. Would be nice to see a video about the gear you have in full. Thanks Scott

Thanks Scott. I’ll be back in a month or so when there’s more going on. I’ve considered making a video like that but not sure if anyone would find it interesting.

Great content, I have gone even older 1dmkii(N) + Sigma 150-600 - great combo for birds. Had a mk3 and a mk4 1D, went to a 7dmk2 (horrible sensor imo) - now back to an even older 1d. Ergonomics mean more to me and faster glass. It is good to see old bodies being used, as they are still very very capable, and so cheap!!. Anyway I've subscribed, as really enjoyed this.

Great video Chris, not the easiest set up for hand held shots mate. I’d have no chance at the minute with my bust wrist, can only hold my XT3 for a couple of minutes 🤣

Yeah it did get heavy by the time I’d finished and the only tripod I have with a monopod I was using for video. They do get heavy don’t they.

Hi mate, great content , I love your work and thanks for the effort, I just want to ask you what would you recommend between this 1 D iii and the 7 D II , I use to shoot canon cameras couple of years ago so I am fairly confident in how to use them it’s just a matter of best bang for buck deal out there, I will gen any of them used and probably a 400 mm L lens, thanks in advance, regards Bob.
@ChrisBaitson
@ChrisBaitson Год назад
Between the two cameras I’d maybe look at the 7D2 given the age of the 1D3 and the extra crop from the 7D2. While I do love my 1D3 the sensor tech is pretty outdated by todays standards and you’ll likely be MUCH happier with the files from the much newer 7D2.
@BobLee333
@BobLee333 Год назад
@@ChrisBaitson what about a 1D IV? I mean I found so decent units at similar prices with 7D II, now I’m even more interested, thanks. Regards Bob.
@ChrisBaitson
@ChrisBaitson Год назад
@@BobLee333 On paper the 7D2 out performs even the 1D4 - the only thing the 1D has over the 7D is the ISO performance but given the slightly larger sensor that’s to be expected. If you want a 1 series camera for wildlife you’re looking at the 1Dx line but you’re talking totally different prices at that point. Check out a website called Camera Decision. You can compare cameras directly with one another on there.
