One: the birds were all moving erratically, so connecting the hit was not guaranteed. Two: it does 80 damage to a 900 HP (at the time) bird with ragdoll immunity. Three: you say it would have mattered, it wouldn't. Anyone with a basic sense of timing could wait to nuke a red mid the moment she's out of her I-frames.
