And also shows how "activists" (like the write/director) has no clue about science and what they're actually fighting for and just parroting what others say.
“We’re sending CO2 directly to the upper atmosphere. Overwhelming the enemy will make them surrender faster, and climate change is fixed as soon as the UN pays my ransom demands.” - Elongated Muskrat
@@clementj yeah, environmental pollution is a real problem, and it's getting worse in certain ways, but this film is really not the way to go about promoting awareness.
I hope, when it comes out, Mark reviews Neil Breen’s sequel to Twisted Pair… though I kinda fear for his sanity if he does! 😅 I don’t know how the hell he made it through _this train wreck!_
@@Lesley_RedRhody based on the trailer for the sequel, Breen is using EVEN MORE GREEN SCREEN THAN EVER BEFORE. I think that nearly every shot in the trailer was green screen.
"you want to know one of the things that made Hitchcock a great director? The scenes in his movies had a point." I don't know why, but that one broke me 😂😂😂😂
The Birds star Tippi Hedren intentionally took part in a 90s tv movie sequel of The Birds, starring a former mens underwear model, because she knew it was going to be a horrible movie. She still hasn't gotten over how badly Hitchcock treated her during the original and wanted to take a potshot at him. Not everybody's crazy over the guy, I guess. And yeah, that sequel is all kinds of bad.
@@skylx0812 She also appeared in a scene in the James Nguyen movie "Julie and Jack", which featured a bird or birds in a cage, in a nod to the Hitchcock film. I believe her scene was also set in Bodega Bay, though I could be wrong on that last part.
"We're all going to die. Go have a lot of sex!" That guy is the kid from The Room that said "I just like to watch you guys". You can't tell me otherwise. It's all part of the same universe.
Me either I was aware of the second birdemic. But the 3 one was such a anomaly release, but at least it’s arguable better than the Jeepers creepers reboot.
Not gonna lie Mark, the middle portion where you go fairly in depth and break down Hitchcock and his strengths in "The Birds" was really, really well done and super interesting. I'd actually really like to see some videos from you where you do this with other directors and some of their greatest (or your favorite) films. I think you'd have a hit on your hands, dude, you obviously know what you're talking about and your passion shines through!
Hitchcock is actually very easy to comprehend and explain. Everything he did had a purpose, was artistically sound, and most of all-MADE PERFECT SENSE.
I really look forward to your episodes. Is it possible to branch out into slightly more mainstream movies if you expand to: Horribly Disappointing Movies Horribly Acted Movies Or even shorter episodes on Terrible Soundtracks Awful Movie Songs Hilarious Credit Sequences Thanks for the effort you put into each episode. I believe I’ve seen every entry! They’re fun but I’ve also learned a lot. PS - Could you discuss a movie term in each vid? For instance in this vid you mentioned color grading and foley. I’d love to learn a little as well as laugh.
The reason the movie took 10 years after the last one is because the actors got stuck in their comically oversized test tubes and the director had to grow a new batch.
Having seen all of Breens movies, he proves your point- he is an alien trying to imitate human life. I always thought Nguyen heard how Hitchcock is amazingly consistent, and just removed "amazingly".
I don't think anyone believes they're perfect. It's like Sharknado but worse somehow. They know what they're doing. People are going to watch it because it's so bad, like Velma.
Nguyen made the first Birdemic with genuine intentions. It doesn't matter if people think the sequels are pieces of canine fecal matter and cynical products made to tap into that weird niche of bad movie lovers, the purest intentions spawned this whole franchise! The true question is if James Nguyen is an actual alien...😅
You know, as much as we all love this channel and Mark's takes on some of the weirdest and/or downright god-awful movies around, I keep wishing he'd consider having a separate channel for bona fide classics, maybe a "get to know your classics" kind of thing; the sequence where he explains why Hitchcock's "The Birds" is so effective was my absolute favorite in this video and I really enjoyed the clear and precise manner in which he did it. You can really tell his knowledge and love of film goes way beyond the low-budget stuff.
Yes, that was a genuinely interesting segment. Not to mention that little clip of crows landing on a metal bar was far more tense than the entirety of "Birdemic 3".
I remember when he was raising money for this monstrosity. He took the wrong lesson from the first movie. People were like it was so bad we feel sorry for him but he doubled down on it and now triple down
He kinda didn't take the wrong lesson from the first movie. there is no universe were you could convince me that with Birdemic 2 they didn't realize the first was bad and leaned into it with the sequel.....If anything it seems like he forgot that people ironically watched the first 2 because they were hilariously bad and Birdemic 2 knew that.
He said in a recent interview that he's in on the joke now, but he admitted that he was really trying to make a serious movie with the 1st one. But now it's a joke & he knows it & he said he's fine with it because at least he can provide amusement for his audience. He said he's going to franchise it like Child's Play
I was binging your videos today. I feel like you seem much more happy now than you used to in your old videos. It brings me joy to see you happy, hope you’re doing better now.
I think the director knows what he’s doing, I think. lol i want to assume he’s meme’n on purpose and keeping it bad. From the shots, to dialogue, nonstop flubs and etc.
the director probably thought "if i tell people what happens in the greatest movie of all time it'll be jsut like they're watching the greatest movie of all time" Also I wish more people would cite their sources on their opinion about art more often.
I'm starting to think that the director is using these films to launder money or something. There is no way that he's making a profit after releasing three films of this quality. Tommy Wiseau gave Neal Breen and James Nguyen hope. 14:19 The chemistry is amazing 🤣😂
Honestly, the Birdemic Trilogy truly has one purpose, and that is to be seen by up and coming directors and actors so they know what NOT to do when making a movie. Love your vids man, greetings from Mexico City
This is on purpose now he is just trying to maintain his "bad" movie status. The first was truly a failed faithful effort, now it's just trying to maintain the brand.
The fact that your skits are visibly off by an intangible comedic amount is what makes them so damn good, along with the writing and delivery. Keep doin what your doing, and thanks for the videos.
Love how passionate Mark gets when he reviews a Birdemic movie! He’s pissed off at the waste of film! Also, WTH happened to Rod? Geez, I had to freeze the video and stare at him, he looks completely different. Love you Mark!!
When I heard Nguyen was looking for financing for Birdemic 3, if I'd had the money I would've invested in it just to be on set to see how his mind works. At least this one had the usual staples of really long, awkward walking scenes and shots of cars driving and parking. His films are fascinating, like watching a train crash in slow motion.
I feel like the Birdemic franchise is about continuingly remaking the same movie over and over again, each time adding some ever so slight improvement, until by somewhere around Birdemic 453 they finally get it right and it's actually the decent final product of a watchable movie that they intend to make, and all previous editions where just part of the crafting process...
7:51 What if this is how Neil Breen and James Nguyen actually talk? Like, if you could interview them and ask why their dialogue is so awkward, and then they start giving some stilted answer that's just as awkward as all the characters in their movies. Willing to bet Birdemic 4 will be the best one yet!
Seeing movies and actors like these makes me believe that I would have been at least a not bad actor, and had a chance to make some money, I just can't see these people ever getting hired again.
They were not allowed to act any differently. They took the job because they were paid to and did exactly as the director asked them to. I doubt any of them will use clips from this movie for any auditions in the future because they know exactly how bad it was but the actors had literally no control over that.
That lady telling us the ending of Vertigo reminded me of that Simpsons episode where Homer tells everyone in line to see Empire Strikes Back that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father. (Back then, that was a spoiler. Now that's just the plot of Star Wars.)
That’s the question I have in all areas: Art, politics, science, etc. How much is accident and how much is intended? I want to agree with you, that this filmmaker is purposefully making “bad” movies. I’d like to know what the actors actually think. Are they aware or unaware of the relative quality of what they did? Are they all in on the joke?
A simple line change- "I love when James Stewart let's Kim Novak run to the tower and fall to her death in Vertigo." would have been great character development.
Space elevators require materials that might not be physically possible, but they’re a really cool idea. Vertigo is based on a really good French novel that’s somewhat different and definitely worth a read on its own.
I grew up in Santa Cruz so it's fun for me to watch the exterior shots and remember these places. The restaurant at 4:32, the Blue Dolphin, has some amazing calamari and clam chowder. And you can look down at the sea lions that live under the wharf. That's why there's that group of people gathered in the background when they're at the table. Man, I miss that place. Movie's awful though.
Yep, normally Mark's summaries are all I need when it comes to the Birdemic franchise, but as another homesick member of the Santa Cruz diaspora, I guess I'm gonna have to actually drop the 3 bucks to watch this one.
The poor girl looks so bored on that date. You can almost hear her thoughts " why I did I agree to do this?" I hope she got paid and isn't in this to help her friend.
See everyone but the director is in on the joke. That what makes this fascinating. The actors are clearly in on it but the director isn’t. It truly shows how delusional he is
In interviews he said he really did start out trying to make good artistic films. He said for the 1st birdemic, he thought he was making a true thriller but now he's in on the joke. He said in a recent interview about this film that as long as he can provide 90 minutes to keep the audience laughing then he's happy. He said he went to the reshowing of the first Birdemic and he saw how everyone was laughing and shouting out the lines of the film in mockery & he said although that 1st movie was truly unintentional bad humor, he said he is completely fine with it & wants to make it into a franchise like Child's Play.
@@seanpoulton2446 -- There is a cult that likes this stuff & will pay to see it. I like the unintentional bad movies like his 1st one. I own that on DVD. It's a top 5 all time so bad it's good for sure. I do enjoy the Sharknado & Chucky franchise, I just won't pay money to watch it. Lol. My girlfriend has those ones on DVD & I love watching them but just as long as she's gonna pay to own those monstrosities. 😆 Still great stuff
I once used Birdemic in an essay as a positive example of how filmmaking is so much more accessible for people. Now I’m beginning to regret using that example. I didn’t even know there WAS a Birdemic 3
The perfect quote to represent Birdemic 3. You know... you know when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea: have a point. It makes it so much more interesting for the listener!
Interesting thing is that guys like Ed Wood were terrible at making movies, yet you could still see the fun and joy coming through them. Movies like this and Neil Breen's stuff are just joyless train wrecks. I would even watch stuff like "The Room" or "Manos" or "Troll 2" ten times over this lifeless pontificating.
Bride of the Monster, Plan 9 from Outer Space, The Violent Years, The Sinister Urge, all so delightfully entertaining, especially when the guys from MST3K/Rifftrax are watching with you.
I have been a fan of your channel for years now and everytime I think you'll say "Nope, couldn't make it through this one!"....You push through the pain and finish...Brother...I once played 3 1/2 quarters of Football with a broken foot...I ain't got SHIT on you!! I don't know how you keep from going insane but keep doing it!! Love your content and I'm a fan til ya drop!!
Personally I think he makes these movies as bad as possible on purpose, you'd figure inconsistent colour grading/contrast/focus with modern equipment/software would have to be done deliberately, there are so many cheap cameras/phones that can film a decent looking picture right out of the box. As for Neil Breen, pretty sure he just does it to creep on young woman.. plus its better than paying taxes I guess.
This director is in on the joke. He is purposely making his movies exactly like Birdemic with all the same flaws bc that is what he got popular for. He doesn't realize that being in on the joke kills the joke. It isn't funny when you make a shit movie on purpose.
This is sad. The first movie was hilarious because it was sincere and failed incredibly. The second movie tried to parlay the bad quality of the first into a Sharknado-type, wink-at-the-camera "bad movie". To go on to a third movie trying to recreate a bad movie is insane. If the two sequels were as earnest as the first movie, then the director needs to be committed in the same Delusion Wing at the psyche ward as Neil Breen.
The Birdemic series lets you know that it is possible to make a movie worse than the Asylum. It also makes wonder what sequels to other B list films would be like. The Room, Troll 2 , Battlefield Earth, they all deserved another go.
I don't think the director has any interest to "get better" at making movies, he wants to cash in on this nothing more. If he really wanted to reinvent himself, he would try something new instead of making a third installment of a series synonymous with trash.
Yknow I didn't watch your stuff for years, I first watched your videos when you had like 3 uploads, now rediscovering your catalog, its like a treasure trove I love it 🙂😄.
the great thing about being old? i can remember the same "scientists" telling us and using Spock, himself, that we'd be frozen over by the turn of the century, yet here we are.
Everyone seems to think he is trying to make a good movie here. He may have been during the making of the first one, but two sequels were definitely made equally bad on purpose.
That's where I have no time for this guy, he's not getting weirder or more entertaining, it's tiresome. Breen excels, this guy is another Wiseau with an ego to match Fuck him
I love how Mark keeps taking one for the team. No way I could sit through this just to make a video about it. And the skits 🤣, damn I love this channel.
