On July 1st and July 2nd, 2024, from the wooden observation deck at the Concord Unit of the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, we were fortunate to encounter baby Barn Swallows of the American subspecies. They had just recently fledged and were not very afraid of humans. The American subspecies of Barn Swallow is one of the most common birds in the United States, with a huge population, but it's difficult to take photo of them other than perching. The best time to photograph them is during the sunset when the sun is setting in the western sky.
