Follow Luciano Breves on his walks to search for the most beautiful and rare bird species of the Atlantic Rainforest in Southern Brazil. Episode 1 - Black-cheeked Gnateater.
When a bird strikes a window and is behaving as this white-bearded manakin did, you can try placing the bird in a large covered box so that it can recover in darkness. Many times birds that would otherwise die while being held in the light or given water, will survive if they are simply left alone for an hour or two in a dark cardboard box. After 1 hour you can place the box outside and simply open the top, if the bird is alive and has recovered it's shock, it will fly away. If it does not fly, close the box again and wait another hour. The box cannot be air tight, but it should be dark. If a bird is not severely injured, it may recover from the shock of hitting the window when placed in a dark quiet box. Thanks for the video, but it is always sad to have a beautiful bird die in your hands.
