ROBBIE FOWLER SCORED FOR LIVERPOOL AFTER 30 MINUTES AND DARREN PURSE EQUALISED WITH A PENALTY IN THE 90TH MINUTE. THE FINAL WAS PLAYED AT THE MILLENNIUM STADIUM CARDIFF ON THE 25TH FEBRUARY 2001, ATTENDENCE: 73,500

How we lost this game I’ll never know I was only a kid watching this with my old man broke my heart watching but then 10 years later went on to win the carling cup against arsenal but deffo was a 2nd pen in this how wasn’t given is beyond me KRO

We were robbed. Andrew Johnson was robbed of a penalty. The Liverpool fans knew it too .

@@anthonypreece6447 Ref probably felt sorry for Liverpool they hadn't won a trophy for a full 6 years which was also the MickeyMouseCup. This was the first part of the shitty treble in comparison to ManUtd's 2 years earlier. Henchoz should've conceded a pen in both LeagueCup & FAcup finals that season! What about UEFAcup final? Don't know how Liverpool managed to win UEFAcup & Champions league 4 years later conceding a total of 7 goals in both finals. They also lost 6 CL games in 2004/05 & 2018/19 combined and still won both. ManUtd won 2 in a much more convincing style unbeaten in both, top scorers by a distance in 98/99 much harder format of the CL as well.

We did incredibly well to get to the final as a championship club and would have won in injury time against a giant team like Liverpool as we should have had a second pen. Extraordinary really.

The Liverpool centre half's could not handle AJ obvious penalty David Ellery scared to give it because we were a championship club. Fair play to Robbie Fowler he applauded our fans at the end. He knew we were robbed that day kro

we were robbed, that was definitely second penalty when AJ got brought down, remember that day so much the fans were amazing and was a great cup run we deserved that cup :( Adebola was in the form of his life lol

Now now. You missed Birmingham's handball save in the first half, although I agree AJ's tumble over Henchoz's foot would probably be a penalty nowadays. Fowler's superb finish deserved the cup overall.

@@jackquinn4363 Who you support is irrelevant. The game was 20 years ago and how we judge penalties has changed. Goals win games. Elleray awarded them one peno anyway and they lost. It is what it is.
