To be fair, he was trailing significantly through the first 3+ laps and didn’t have the same PR as some of these other fellas. Beating his PR by 7 seconds over a mile is pretty ridiculous. Don’t know if he made changes to his training but whatever he’s doing, it’s working. Have to wonder what his ceiling is after making such a significant gain, kid’s got a lot of potential.

I wish I loved running again. I used to be decent at it, as a kid until I fell for the BS about it reducing strength gains from old bodybuilders on the internet. Just gradually got slower over time, use it or lose it and all
@maciejguzek3442

except obviously it is not BS. Prioritizing conditioning you cannot prioritize strength. And you blame others for your own decision.. This doesn't look good.
@music4dages
@music4dages Год назад
I started my running career after being a shot putter for two years in high school. I was the best JV thrower in our high school. When I switched to Cross Country and Track, I became the best two miler and three miler in our high school. My secret: all the strength that I built up as a shot putter. It gave me power that a lot of the runners lacked. I also didn't stop the weight training. BTW, as a shot putter I was about 30 pounds lighter than my competitors. I simply had terrific upper body strength and speed to move across the circle. My best throw for the shot was 51 feet. My best two mile was 9:45.
@maciejguzek3442
@maciejguzek3442 Год назад
@@music4dages your 'secret' may rather be that you are (or were) very athletic overally, and not combining different sport experiences. Anecdotic evidence is not a proof. Endurance training does act against strength training , which the op doesn't believe..

@macree01
@macree01 Год назад
Nick Symmonds is like 30 lbs heavier than when he competed in the 800 and 1500. He literally can no longer run a sub 5 min mile, but was a sub 4 guy when he was competitive. Not dissing either side, but you cannot really have both. Especially if you’re trying to get anywhere in the ballpark of competitive times. The way I always see it, you maybe strong but you would be out-sprinted by all of these guys before you’d even be able to fight them. Speed vs Strength is always going to be one of the classic arguments, unfortunately they both kind of cancel each other out.
