BIRTH VLOG *raw & real* // LABOR AND DELIVERY OF OUR FIRST BABY

I've watched 1000's birth vlogs and now it's finally time to share my own! It was the hardest and most intense thing I have ever done and it didn't go as plannend. I dreamed of an all natural vaginal birth but that's not what happened. My labor was induced and because after hours of heavy contractions, breaking my water and stripping my cervix I still had almost no dialation - they performed an emergency C-section on me to get baby girl out.
Ivy De Poorter was born on 21/01/21 @ 15h with a weight of 3.8kg and 51cm. She's so loved allready! The most precious little human, that I made in my belly. Half me and half my favorite person in the world, Jonathan, her baby daddy (who was my rock during this whole experience).
Follow us on Instagram for more baby and life updates!

It makes me so sad thinking that women feel like failures for getting epidurals. There is absolutely nothing wrong and no shame for doing something that gives you peace in comfort during labor. 9 months of being pregnant shouldn’t have to end in agonizing pain. The epidural helps so much and is truly a gift from God. Congratulations you did incredible!

I think.... we can all push, painful but technically quick 20..30min? ...they give epidural to push out right? So y0u don't feel anything.. but the bigger pain are the contractions in my opinion and I don't know if the epi help with that. I didn't get the epi because the thought of not feeling makes me more scared and I was tolsd the effect could last a bit even after birth so no thanks.

My first labor was very much like yours except I was in an induced labor for 56 hours and only reached 3 cm before they did the first of my seven C-sections over the next 24 years. I had 5 spinal, two of which did not work, the epidurals with my last two. I had pre-eclampsia with my oldest son at 36 weeks...he weighed 5 lbs. 11 ozs and was 21” long. My babies were born in 1965, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1983, 1988 and 1990...2 sons and then 5 daughters from 2 marriages...the first one of 17 yrs. and the second for 38 1/2 yrs so far. I lost my oldest son 21 months ago. He died 3 days before his 54th birthday. He was a C.P.A. and owned his own accounting firm. His death is still an open homicide investigation with the woman he had been married to for 20 months at the time. We lost his oldest child, my first grandchild, a daughter when she was 21 yrs. old, in a car accident in December of 2008...we have missed her terribly. My son also left behind his two sons who were 18 and 15 at the time of my sweet son’s death. The 56 hours of labor then the surprise C-section were not nearly as horrible and devastating as his shocking death has been....the most terrible 21 months in my life. I loved my firstborn so very much and I miss him more than I can ever say. I hope you enjoy your baby girl’s growing up years and I pray that she has a long, healthy and happy life and that you have a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After C-section) for your next birth experience...and don’t let anyone tell you that you can only have only 3 surgical births. I was the following ages when I had my babies...18, 20, 26, 29, 36, 40 and 42 and all of my babies were normal, healthy babies who grew up to be wonderful adults and I did terrific after each birth....and both of my tiny sons grew up to be 6’ 2” tall and smart as could be. All of my children have college degrees and except for losing Rick, my life and theirs could not have been better. Congratulations again!

BTW...you did a great job and don’t forget...the MOST important aspect of pregnancy is to end the experience with a healthy baby and a healthy mother and that is how your pregnancy ended so just be happy that you live in a time when a surgical birth is an option when we need it....thank God we live in an age of modern medicine. You did GREAT, and so did your “best friend” who is your daughter’s wonderful daddy! You are all extremely lucky just like I was. Enjoy every minute of your daughter’s life!

It breaks my heart that not being in pain made you feel "disappointed in yourself". What kind of society teaches women to be ashamed if they don't suffer enough?! You carried your child, you are a mother and deserve to be helped through the last obstacle you face before holding your baby.
@Eerielai
@Eerielai 2 года назад
"What kind of society teaches women..." The kind where people can do social media for a living. "Unmedicated birth" is a popular vlog title and keyword, probably because it gets more views. So it's the vloggers who in chasing views created the fad and the expectation, especially among othger vloggers, that unmedicated birth is the way to go.

A society like ours in which not even cancer patients are adequately treated for their pain. Believe it or not crooked politicians, insurance companies,and the DEA are now the ones who decide what and when certain medications can be given. I spoke with a friend who was recently diagnosed with a high grade breast cancer, and her insurance company denied a claim for a medication that she needed to boost her immune system! I have suggested she consider consulting an attorney.

@@pattidale7968 wow I’m sorry your friend is going through that and it sucks that insurance companies even if you pay they deny you coverage when a person has cancer or a serious illness so paying for insurance is a scam and shouldn’t be that way they are stealing peoples money

It really upsets me that so many women feel pressure to NOT have an epidural. You labored long and hard like a champ for your beautiful baby. Epidurals allow you to relax and enjoy your birth without being overly focused on pain. I'm glad you got the epi. Makes you no less a natural mom--you birthed a baby! She's precious!

So true! I hate how there are so many moms or just people in general who say “you’re stronger if you don’t get an epidural” or basically those who compliment moms on being strong for not getting epidural. There’s nothing admirable about not getting an epidural just as there is nothing different when you do get an epidural. Epidurals merely make your birth experience more enjoyable. I don’t get why anyone wouldn’t want to have an epidural because when you don’t you’re too focused on the pain to enjoy and focus on your baby.
@Eerielai
@Eerielai 2 года назад
@@lex3683 Do people actually say that? I've never heard anyone say anything like that. Some are against epidural because it has certain risks. But it looks to me like vloggers are partially responsible for the fad of unmedicated birth because it gets more views.
@stephanie4ever
@stephanie4ever Год назад
My MIL is really against them as well because of the risk of back problems. I personally don’t know anybody who’s ever had issues from their epidural and I also know I don’t want to deal with the pain if there’s an option to. I have a low pain tolerance and even Pap smears are more uncomfortable than usual for me so there’s no way I’m not getting an epidural. No shame at all, give me that pain relief :)

Hoping to start trying soon but I’ve always wanted to do natural if possible bc of a past back injury. The epidural would go right near it and that terrifies me.

The epidural was what actually relaxed me enough to deliver my first two babies. I wasn’t progressing either. I honestly believe that the extreme pain and stress stopped me from progressing because I was fighting it so hard just from the extreme pain. Within ten to thirty minutes I delivered both times. My third baby, the doctor was a woman and she was amazing and didn’t make me suffer like the first two doctors. She enduced me and hooked me up to the epidural immediately and I had my doctor immediately in a very relaxed environment. I wish she’d been my doctor the first two times. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!

This was exactly my experience. Held off on meds as long as I could, ended up getting an epidural, still no dilation (1.5cm) and ended with emergent c-section anyway. I felt like my body betrayed me and so much guilt. But now that she is almost 2 years old I see how much my body did for me and how even though It wasn't how I'd always imagined it, my body was still amazing. YOU are amazing, I'm so happy you had a healthy little bean in the end.

And it made me so sad that nobody helped you through it, nobody offered you pain relief like massage, applying pressure, accupuncture, heating pad, movement, bathtub (more than once) or ultimately some form of medication. You did awesome and none of that is your fault💕 I have a very similar birth experience, sadly.

I will have to say, I was heartbroken to see this beautiful young woman feel bad for getting an epidural. Does it make you braver to get a tooth filled with no Pain blocker??? I’m 57 and have three children and three grandchildren. I can’t imagine even wanting to experience pain that’s unnecessary but much less feeling bad when I gave into the need for pain relief. My daughter with her last one got the epidural right away and relaxed during the labor, was able to push better and over all enjoyed and felt better after giving birth. Women need to stop glorifying what they call natural birth. Birth is birth and when it yields a precious child that’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter if that child was conceived in a test tube or how the momma gave birth. Please young women don’t have others tell you what is best for you😉

@@dorinefitt sometimes you can lower the dosage of the epidural so that you’re not completely numb. Most times epidurals just numb the pain they don’t numb the actual feeling of pushing the baby out. If you have a super heavy dosage of epidural then you won’t be able to feel yourself pushing the baby out, but if you ask for a lower dose then you might be able to get the experience you want

@@dorinefitt yes, induced contractions are far, far stronger! Starting from zero effaced and zero cms-done that too-will make things take way longer. :( For my one VBAC I refused induction. Epidural happened as it was needed to lower my b/p but induction can really stress the uterus & especially a c/s scar. So, perhaps consider that. ❤️ from one tough birth trauma mama to another.

I know it’s a year later but this was the best birth video I have ever watched. It was calm and peaceful. I know you were in an excruciating amount of pain but you handled it with such grace. Getting an epidural is not defeat, I have three kids and got an epidural with each one. Labor is tough and very painful and sometimes we need that relief to relax. Your baby girl is beautiful! Congratulations!!💓💗💕

Congratulations! She is precious! My first delivery went just like yours. The doctor told me not to try a vaginal birth again. My second baby was stuck in my pelvis. The third was the same. They were all 7 lb. babies but I have cephalopelvic disproportion. All of mine were delivered via C-section. The best news is they all lived and were healthy.

Good job Mama!! You, your husband, and God made a miracle! You are AMAZING, and you have worked so hard, for so long, to get to the day when you get to meet your MIRACLE!! You did EVERYTHING EXACTLY RIGHT!! And now you can get a little rest, because your life from this moment forward, is going to be different, in the best possible way, and now you are a Mommy!! Some day in the near future, you will hear that word from your child, and you will know the joy of your life, and every single day, you can know that you did EVERYTHING EXACTLY RIGHT! Your daughter is GORGEOUS! YOU DID AN AWESOME JOB!!

Screaming in my head let her feel her damn baby and stop just waving her in the air!! Well done mama. I seriously applaud you, there's no harder birth and achievement that the one you challenge yourself to go through. None of this was a failure and you were at the hands of your medical care team who made every decision with you, body and baby ❤️

I had our first baby natural and I was in so much pain for 12 hours. He was finally born and was only 61/2 lbs! Our second baby, I was going to try natural again, but couldn’t take the pain and asked for the epidural. Thank goodness I did get the epidural, because he was almost 9 lbs!! There’s really no reason to suffer in labor pain when they have the wonderful epidurals to help.
