I set out with the goal of fishing Green Lake. But ended up side tracked at Brown Lake. Beautiful hike and was the perfect time to go up since there was a heat wave going on.
I went to brown lake and green lake last week. Got skunked too. Didn't see any fish swimming or surfacing. Tried at both outlet and inlet. The creek flowing into green lake has good amount of water and I don't see a sign of fish which is a bit strange for backcountry lakes.
Brown is supposedly is shallow enough to get winter kill. If any winter is going to do that I would guess last winter was it. Green should be big enough to handle winter though. Talking to the parchers guys they say it’s more of a quality over quantity lake. You can off-road to Green as well…could also nine why the numbers seem unusually low for a backcountry lake.
I finally realized that when i reached the top and an elderly couple asked me if I came from parchers. I’ll definitely try to make it back up there from the pipe sometime. Although dealing with the south lake parking lot is a challenge in its own haha.
If you start at the south lake trailhead, you could be 600 feet higher which could save you some effort :) It's always my plan to go to green lake and then to baker lake and hidden lake.
