This man is a dying breed. Also the love he has for his wife and carries a picture of them. I cried. What a true American. The fact that he still goes on with whatever health problem he has and a broken heart is amazing. Mr bishop has truly lived.
My wife and I wanted to thank you for getting that special recording of Jim. I remember him as a young boy building the castle and be a married man and see that picture of him and his wife really brought tears to our eyes thank you you
You are more than welcome Alec. I was so happy to have captured that moment with Jim to show the softer side that most people have not seen. Very glad to share this with you.
I've been here a few times and I must say this video is the best representation of what it's like to experience the property in person. Not for the faint of heart. Great video!
My daughter and I discovered this awesome castle 4 days ago! It was a perfect day for an adventure and for exploring! At every turn, I was more and more amazed! Absolutely an amazing feat! Wow! The main room upstairs took my breath away, at how beautiful it is! Definitely worth seeing!! Definitely worth any donation offered! Thanks for the video! Jim, thank you for sharing your talent! ❤️🏰
Hi Kristi! So glad you and your daughter were able to see and enjoy this in person. And also happy you enjoyed our video. After 3 years of traveling the US in our RV, Jim’s castle is still our favorite memory.
I first saw this story as a child and I had looked for updates over the years but was unable to find it. It brings me great joy to see this man's dream fulfilled and what a wonderful job he has done. ❤
Oh, cool! So glad we could bring you an along and show you around the finished structure. Did you see the interview with Mr. Bishop at the end of the video?
“I don’t want help, I want credit for what I’ve done” Damn straight. 😂 It broke my heart when he was showing you photos of his wife. One can only wish we find a love that strong. What an amazing man, he deserves all the praise he gets.
Exactly. I felt very fortunate to have met him and to be able to show people the softer side of this man. If you watch a lot of other videos on RU-vid, he’s always portrayed as an angry old man and all they want to show is his political rants. To capture this side of Jim was wonderful.
Very cool! I didn’t realize there was a town named Bishops Castle. I hope to someday travel across the pond to explore and have pinned it on my Google Maps. Love the pictures of the old church and what looks to be a cathedral? Hope you also get a chance to visit our Bishops Castle someday. It is incredible to see in person. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi there!! What a great tour of the castle, as well as interview of Mr Bishop! Thank you for sharing it! You certainly paid respect for his incredible one man accomplishments! Safe travels!!
@campingalan Hey Alan! Glad you enjoyed! Bishop Castle was one of our favorite places to visit during our travels last year. Truly amazing! Please also stay safe, happy & healthy!
Much respect to you for being so polite and respectful of Jim. It brought a tear to my eye hearing him talk about his wife. You have more guts than I do going out on that stuff! Lol my wife and I are going back out to Colorado next month. I love it out there. Hope you're well and thanks for the video!
@Ludo Down Thank you so much! There are a lot of videos out there that focus on Jim's tirades. I was lucky to have been able to capture another side of him that I don't believe many people have seen. It was truly a very rare moment. He did go into a bit of a tirade not long after that part of our conversation and I chose not to include it... For some reason, I've always enjoyed climbing on structures like that and taking calculated risks ever since I was a young boy. There is a certain thrill about it all. Glad to hear you are returning to Colorado. Assuming you have been to Bishop Castle? If not, I would definitely recommend making it a priority if you will be in the area. It is at the top of our favorites list. Have fun and safe travels!
@@EddieAtLarge We haven't been to bishops castle before. I was stationed at Fort Carson in 90-91. And we usually go back out there at least once a year to the Colorado Springs area, but we travel around Colorado while there. Thinking of going to Utah and we were just watching your video in the Valley of the Gods. That's really beautiful! Near the 4 corners too. We were really wanting to go to that area.
@@jjburkk Utah is beautiful. We spent 2 months there this past summer. More videos coming up… Will definitely return to the Colorado Springs area in the near future as we didn’t see nearly as much as we wanted to last year.
❤❤❤ a classic landmark worthy of recognition in the annals of human creativity and ingenuity...built only by a single man...salute to you Mr. Bishop...
@@EddieAtLarge I've been going every few years or so for the last 36 years. I was about 7 the first time. An interesting fact is that the dragon used to breathe 8' flames of fire. My mom has some old camcorder video I'll see if I can upload at some point so people can see it. Cheers.
@Wee Strom CO Guy Wow, that's incredible that you've been able to see the progress of his work over the years. How awesome. Would certainly have been cool to see the flames from the dragon. Please let me know if you upload that footage. I would love to see it. Cheers to you as well.
@RA Johns Glad you enjoyed our video! This is still one of our favorite places in all of our travels. I had not heard of Mission Wolf, but, now have it marked on our map to visit next time we are in that area. Looks like a nice sanctuary and I see it gets great reviews.
@@EddieAtLarge We've been to these two times each, actually. BC was almost finished on the second visit, several years later; an amazing construction accomplishment, as you know. The MW people were super nice and you really get a good feeling how well the wolves are taken care of.
First visited in May/June '84. Mr. Bishop was about 6 feet up working on an inside wall now below the high tower. I took a photo. mailed it to the address about 3 years ago.
Thank you! Glad you like the videos. I was also very glad to have been able to help you out today and it’s great to hear that you made it home safely! Just wondering, I thought you said your name was Austin, but, see your name is Arthur. Maybe I misunderstood since you had your mask on? Or do you go by Austin?
Awesome. I was worried that I had misunderstood and had been calling you by an incorrect name. Very nice to have met you. Did your kids like the video of the cows? That was pretty cool to see...
I’ve been there, my Dad lives nearby(Canon City). I almost passed out going up those metal stairs(elevation-I’m a flat lander). The creator sat out front & was interesting to talk to.
Back in the 90s, a rave party was run out of Bishop's Castle by the county. The whole crowd migrated up Phantom Canyon to my property near Victor. It was somewhat unexpected and a train of cars, trucks and old school buses was not a usual sight up there. The transplanted rave went on for a couple of days (loud weird music annoying the mountain folks for miles around), and they kind of trashed the place. In the aftermath of that semi-unplanned fiasco, one man was walking around in the early morning with a plastic bag in his hand, cleaning up the trash the ravers had left behind. That man was Jim Bishop. He gave a shit what had happened to our place through no fault of his own. That is the kind of man I knew him to be. Great guy. Great castle. Don't forget it is also the resting place of his son, who was tragically lost during the construction of the castle.
Just visited Oct '21 on suggestion from desk clerk. Awesomely amazing place. Thought we'd spend an hour taking some pics. Around every corner it's like "wow, there's more!". Finally tore ourselves away 2+ hrs later. Great job on the video. The drone view is something you can't see in person, to try and take it all in.
@d gronzega Glad you were able to see this in person! I know what you mean about getting caught up exploring the castle. So much to see. Thanks for watching and happy you enjoyed!
Friends grandma showed me how to do stained glass this year, that stuff is not cheap! This guy put a lot of work into this place and the government tried their best to take it, let’s keep it a treasure forever 🤙
@Paul Frank Thank you Paul! We loved this place and were so glad to have been able to meet and speak with the man who built it. Glad you enjoyed the video!
My parents took me there when I was really young. It wasn't nearly as built up but my father was a friend of Jim Bishop. He invited us to look at his cool "project".
It’s been over 25 years since I visited the Castle and met Jim. The main structures were already built by then but Jim has done a lot of fine tuning the towers and the iron work and the glass. Hopefully someday, the Castle will become the National Monument it should be.
I am impressed and YES a man should totally be allowed to build what the hell he wants on his own property. But as beautiful as it is. I don't trust that structure, especially not the thin iron work. There are tall trees so that suggest humidity which means rust. Especially on the welds. I'd love to visit though. Maybe one day. What an extraordinary designer and builder Jim is.
This is the Epitome of sanity, truth, awareness, patriotism, heart, responsibility, reverence, loyalty, independence, & love. Thats the Epitome of an American! Who are you?
@@EddieAtLarge Oh.....it did look amazing. A buddy of mine’s gas line was damaged & Bishop cut a length of his airline from a sander, right there on the spot. Good man. Always had fun down there.
With the constant wind , movement and rust eventually the welds will break and the entire steel walkway system will be unsafe its only a matter of time, still very cool but very unsafe
@@EddieAtLarge Hurt or killed, It'd be the easiest lawsuit ever as its private property. I dont get HOW they just allow people to run amuck all over this castle. Hate to sound like a downer but sheesh.
There are tons of signs all over about entering at your own risk. Not sure how that would go in court as I’m not a lawyer and I didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Lol. Hope they never have to find out though.
@@EddieAtLarge hahaha. But yea I really hope they do not either. I def want to go here before anything does shut it down, dont get me wrong its an incredible build and story but the facts remain.
Makes me proud and a lot of ways to live in Colorado. But I'm so embarrassed of my government. Talking about the people that fight for it for the people that pay taxes. Plainansimple all the mindless Democrats and Republicans and the people that actually vote for this crap. Love your videos man keep putting those out there God bless your family.
Thanks John. Ya, our political system needs a major overhaul for sure. I must be getting old cause the saying “I miss the America I grew up in” is really starting to resonate with me lately. Glad you’re enjoying our videos! ✌🏻
