Green cardamom 4-5 pcs
Coriander seeds 2 tbsp
Jeera 1 tbsp
Dry red chilli ½ cup
Dry coconut ¼ cup
Curry leaves 15-20
Method:
Preparing Rice and Dal:
Start by thoroughly washing the tur dal and rice, repeating the process two to three times to remove any impurities.
Then, soak the washed dal and rice in water for 1-2 hours to soften them.
In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal and rice along with water, a pinch of turmeric powder, and salt to taste.
Pressure cook the mixture for about 2 whistles until the dal and rice are cooked to perfection. Once done, set the cooker aside.
Making Bisi Bele Masala Powder:
Heat a pan over medium-low flame and add all the ingredients required for the Bisi Bele masala powder.
Roast the ingredients for 4-5 minutes until they emanate a delightful aroma and turn slightly golden brown.
Transfer the roasted ingredients to a plate and allow them to cool. Once cooled, grind them into a fine powder using a mixer or grinder.
Homemade Bisi Bele masala powder is now ready to be used. Store it in an airtight container for future use.
Preparing Bisi Bele Bhat:
In a large pan, heat ghee and oil. Add mustard seeds, dry red chilies, curry leaves, peanuts, and a pinch of turmeric powder.
Sauté the ingredients until the mustard seeds start crackling.
Next, add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add chopped tomatoes and continue sautéing until they soften.
Now, incorporate the chopped vegetables such as peas, french beans, and carrots into the pan. Mix well to combine.
Season the mixture with salt and the prepared Bisi Bele masala powder, ensuring all the vegetables are coated evenly.
Pour in some water, cover the pan with a lid, and allow the vegetables to cook for 4-5 minutes until they are tender.
Once the vegetables are cooked, add the previously cooked rice and dal mixture to the pan. Stir everything together gently, adding more water if needed to achieve the desired consistency.
Cover the pan again and let the Bisi Bele Bhat simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavours to meld together.
Meanwhile, in a separate pan, heat ghee and roast cashew nuts until they turn light golden brown. Add curry leaves to the pan and let them splutter.
Pour this tempering over the cooked Bisi Bele Bhat for added flavour and aroma.
Delicious Bisi Bele Bhat is now ready to be served hot. Accompany it with refreshing raita, crunchy masala boondi, and roasted chana dal for a wholesome and satisfying meal. Enjoy!
