This is not a charge. This herd is migrating from one grazing area to another and the man made road was paved in their path. A beautiful sight to see the herd is growing.
When these animals roamed the plains ages ago, it was said that their stampedes sounded like thunder. At the sight of how many there were in this video alone, you can definitely see how.
@@sstills951 It was reported way back then that it could take 3 or 4 days for the number of bison to go through a valley. There were millions of them. Once there were 50-to-100 million buffalo, they were the most numerous large mammals to ever exist on the face of the earth.
@@sstills951 Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was being rude or a smartass. Just letting people know how many of these magnificent beasts used to roam the prairies. My apologies if I disrespected you.
I have been on this road and sat through the same thing... we stayed at the north entrance to Yellowstone and every morning would go into the park. This large herd crossed every morning from the west side of the road to the east. We spent the day in the park and then every evening got stopped by the same herd crossing from the east side of the road to the west. They come very close to the cars. I have a great pic of my entire side passenger window filled with the shoulder of a buffalo. I could have reached out to touch it, if I had been stupid...
Oh my goodness, what an amazing experience, I can’t begin to know how it felt in person. Freaking Awesome and Gorgeous animals!!! Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
Bison are such magnificent creatures! After being hunted almost to extinction by settlers, it's a wonderful thing to see even small herds such as this, in the wild.
@@adamrodgers9175 the army did so,,,but not the settlers, there werent enough of them....not until buffalo robes and buffalo tongue became popular did they get killed off
He shouldn’t have been in their path. He shouldn’t have been on the road. He should have moved to the side before the video even began. Lucky he wasn’t kicked out of the park or killed for that matter.
"Here comes a herd of animals weighing an average of two thousand pounds each and in a number that could arguably be called a stampede if spooked. I think I will stand in front of them."
@Chris C Yeah, that doesn't guarantee that they are safe... Sure, "charging" was a strong word for the video title, but if they had been in a stampede, well, I wouldn't want my car in the way.
Every time I see these animals I remember the novel "Bless the beasts and the children" by Glendon Swarthout that tells of their hard life. This novel was written in 1970. I hope that a lot has changed since then, especially buffalo hunting and their near extinction.
@@dawnegan3984 I don't know about Yellowstone, but in Custer State Park in South Dakota, they have a good idea of how many bison can be supported by the park, and they try to keep the herd to around that size. If there are too many bison, then there's not enough to eat. I think they eat something like 32 pounds (14.5 kilos) of food/day. Unfortunately for the bison, they are tasty as well as magnificent. I eat the meat of cows, pigs, and chickens, so I see no reason not to eat bison as well.
Hello everyone. Every time I see a bison it reminds me of what *God* says in his word. *_But you’ve made me strong as a charging bison, you’ve honored me with a festive parade._* *_Psalm 92:10._*
@@memesaremylife2090 When there are a bunch of animals that weigh up to 2000 pounds (909 kilos), stand 5-6 feet (almost 2 meters) high at the shoulder), and can run more than 30 mph (60 kph) in the middle of the road, you wait until they're off the road before you move. Bison always have the right of way.
Lived in Montana 5 years, many trips to Yellowstone. NEVER saw so many in a bunch like that so near cars. Been in traffic jams where they threaded in between cars nonchalantly, but this large herd is great. In Sept. they should be heading for lower altitude, but these are heading up to Silver Gate.Maybe they turn off before reaching Beartooth Pass which is above timberline.
What a beautiful sight, wonderful Animals .l have been to Yellowstone park several times but to see the Buffaloes it's always a gift ,just don't go to close, they are wild .
What part of the park did you go to? Im going there in 2 weeks and ive been told hayden valley and lamar valley(where this vid was taken) are the best places to see them. I hope to see alot of them myself
Woah so many Bisons it's kind of beautiful! :) We do have bisons too, though just 10 (and it's enough!) and man he doesn't know what he escaped! Ours are not completely "wild" animals but when they're running even us can't stand too long! He's one lucky guy before having "balls of steel"!
I don't know about bison, but my husband and I came across two what I think were female bighorn sheep while hiking in the Black Hills National Forest. We were on a trail, and suddenly there they were.
I hate to say this but they all looked so darn tasty. I don't know if anyone has had buffalo before but it is so good. Shocking, not as good as Moose but delicious none the less. It would be so easy to set up a trap and just grab one of the youngsters when it was going by before its mum even knew what happened. Then just drive off casually and that's like a weeks worth of meat.
Yeah and when the rangers found you animal activists and conservationists would eat you for the rest of your life. They don't play up in Yellowstone with the bison.
Lovely video. The funniest thing I see is people who get out of their nice, comfortable, armored box on wheels.....go to walk around and pet these massively muscled and protective beasts with predictable results.
While in Custer Park in S Dakota we left a chuck wagon dinner at a 'ranch'. 7ish, we were pretty much alone on the road. We were stopped and surrounded twice by herds, it was magnificent, rubbing ups against our car! Of course, my cam was in the back of the car. My husband hates bison. I love them.
If they charged you and your car wouldn't be here. Why do men(no matter what nationality) have to make noises back at what ever animal makes them? It is funny really unless someone got hurt. Very lucky to see this Thanks
Once I was hiking and saw few Bisons in the open, so I got up close to 40m as national park suggested, and bisons got panic, started running in circle surround me. and there're not few, more and more coming out of forest, following the swarm of panic, I felt the ground trembling. There were hundreds circling me. Some young male stopped panic, and started kicking their feet, like they're going to charge. Fuck me. I stand still, and walk back super slowly try not to walk into direction where there's cub. Finally they moved on, and I saw a sign in the open area, It said '1. in mating season, keep 200m distance. 2. don't stand in the open'. and they didn't have this info on brochure, must be insider joke. But I'm proud of myself for not peeing in my pants.
I'm pretty sure the guy was in a car. I had the same happen in South Dakota. I'm driving along and here comes a herd of buffalo. Not as large as this but still large. They decided to setup camp around the car. I had to slowly ease my way through the herd. Lucky for me they were in a good mood and no bits of car was taken as a trophy by the herd. But the first thing that came to mind was: Um, I didn't think to look up what to do if surrounded by buffalo.
+FallaciousScotsman Of course, they don't. The European bison aka Wisent is extinct on Britain for a few centuries now. People keep railing on conservation in Africa, but even the suggestion of bringing a few back to most parts of Europe draw huge protestations from Europeans. fucking hypocrites. Europeans think poachers are bad and deserved to be killed because they kill for money, but conservation to save a wild species back in their homeland that will actually costs them a few dollars and safety? Nope, not going to do it. lmao, fuck the euros
Love Yellowstone and I been in the same situation at night, where you see nothing but red eyes coming down the road. Are you in a car or on a motorcycle because I always wondered how the motorcyclists and bikers fare in these situations?
Wow! THAT's FRIGHTENING. I would have veered my vehicle OFF THE ROAD like trying to creep back to that parked vehicle area. I've never seen so many Bison in one big moving group:/
Charge?? If you were facing a real charge from a bison herd you'd empty your colon then faint. They are pretty agile being able to climb on top of cars. Years ago a large bull attacked a school bus and tipped it over on its side. I didn't see any really large bison in this group. A really large bull makes me shiver a bit knowing their power. But if you're nitwit city slicker or just totally clueless you probably won't be alarmed at all.
