"When govts come after ___coin..." Is a common and weak argument against cryptocurrency adoption, growth and resiliency. Will govts be upset? Sure. How will they stop a decentralized solution? Make it illegal? If that worked, we would have no crime, because the illegality would have by that argument made the act NOT occur in the first place. Sadly laws do not make undesired action stop.
@JonathanCr0ss
@JonathanCr0ss 5 лет назад
Yes, but it is also important to point out that most people do not want to "rock the boat", they don't want to do something illegal or even potentially illegal. There are some HODLERs and cypherpunks who are willing to take risks and stand up for their rights, but they (we) are still a minority. That being said, it's a big world and one government outlawing innovation just creates opportunity in another country, so that is at least positive. The money and brainpower will flow to where it is welcome.

My one question about this is how much control do ISPs have? Cause then can't they control actions when using their networks?
@DwayneCunningham
@DwayneCunningham 5 лет назад
@@thewubster_ if i understand the question correctly, the centrality of isp's is an issue but decentralized solutions to decentralized internet exist already and my view would be, where theres a will... If govt squeezes money from the point of internet service providers, we are into some Orwellian, big brother, dark days, and freedom is not a thing any longer, meaning imo, explore decentralized internet like Substratum and change you IP address to obfuscate your activity.

Lightning, Schnorr, MAST, RSK, Mimblewimble, Dandelion, etc etc all these ongoing Bitcoin developments that are being underestimated right now will be the downfall of most investors. Especially if you worship charts alone. Although TA is a good skill, fundamentals are just as important and often neglected.

LamboLife - Good point. But what about the sentiment/psychology/politics? Won't this weight in? For example, despite the strong push towards a paperless society, the use-of/demand-for paper seems to have not diminish. Or maybe in the paper case, the technology to replace paper has not yet emerge?
@Metaroids
@Metaroids 5 лет назад
@@user-DongJ the psychology of the market is a good metric getting short term profits. The long term lies in the fundamentals.
@user-DongJ
@user-DongJ 5 лет назад
@@Metaroids - I see. So its like in the long term, we will go paperless as technology like e-paper improves. Do u consider Bitcoin as the only genuine crypto (that should survive) or others like ETH, XRP & BCH as legitimate cryptos in their own right?

Lightning will add a layer of anonymity as the tracked transaction, KYC, AML are through the exchange and opening closing of the channel on the blockchain but not the lightning network.?

I understand they will know you have had it, but i guess you could try to say you lost it. To hide it, wouldn't it be fairly simple; create a anonymous (expendable) wallet, use e.g. shapeshift to change it to Monero and in that transaction, send it to the anonymous wallet. Then maybe split it up into other currencies to another (expendable) new wallet and lastly, back to the currency of choice in a final anonymous wallet you'll keep. Every time you make a transfer, it costs a bit in fees, but it might still be cheaper (and safer; they look kind of sketchy) than using a laundry service.

I understand that the level of privacy associated with cash has been around since the beginning of money. But I don't think we want to live in a world where a completely private coin is widely used, not with today's tech. Paper trails are useful for safety and justice. One's identity and transactions should be held private, but a lot of shady/youthful idiocy stuff can be prevented by holding people accountable (transactions can be viewed under criminal charges). And whatever turns out to be a cartel's favorite private-crypto tech will most likely end up socially tabooed in the end. I would keep an eye on something like Zcash

Hello Andrea, Can you please explain how is it possible for an exchange, for example coinbase, to offer custody that will act as savings account and gain crypto interest? In our current monetary system money made out of thin air and is basically debt. Since crypto can't be printed, how can interest exist? Thank you!
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353 4 года назад
@john k Commercial banks do print money (expand money supply) through the fractional reserve system.
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353 4 года назад
There are other reasons why cryptos can have interest, but to address your money supply question the answer is simple: Because someone loses, and the gains on the other side of that transaction can be interest to the "winning" party. If there is only 100 coins in existence, and I have 10 of those and I lend them to someone, with 10% interest, they might default on this loan, spending all of the 10 coins trying to make 11. I took risk (represented by interest), and now there is 10 "extra" coins in the system. Someone gained those 10 coins and can use them to pay interest to any lenders on the winning side. Interest = risk, not inflation.
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353
@ole-andreriga-johansen2353 4 года назад
@john k "Printing money is permanent" - how? Central banks can destroy money supply. There is no difference between the currency created by a central bank, and a commercial bank. It's fungible, no? Commercial banks INDEED do create/print/expand whatever you want to call it, which was what I responded to. If you want to bicker semantics, go ahead. In your bitcoin example, the bitcoin supply did not change, a promise was made (IOU). The actual number of bitcoin in existence did not change. In a fiat system, the reserve and the IOU is the same thing, which is what makes it FIAT. I don't know how else to explain it to you?

You find someone who needs cash and has bitcoin. Lots of people who need to sell their bitcoin and prefer the anonymity of cash in return. It's riskier for the seller of bitcoin as it is harder to verify the authenticity of cash.

Couldn't they just do 51% network attacks? Example Monero... Monero is controlled by giant bot nets globally. If the governments were to do a 51% network hash , couldn't that destroy Monero?

Privacy coins will always have backdoors for unlimited coin generation like the multiple backdoors Zooko and his two developers placed inside ZEC to kill all forks of their project.
