Bitfenix Prodigy M Compact Gaming Case Unboxing & Overview 

2019 and I still like these cases.

The fact they sell it in 2019 makes it even better

Details like not editing the thing sticked on Linus's elbow out are the reason I'm a fan!! They do things REAL, they don't worry about having it all staged and perfectly done, I love that!

It's nice to be able to fit in on top of a desk to enjoy your hobby every time you sit down at the computer.

I used this case to build a kickass PC: i7 4770k, 16GB DDR3, GTX 960, on the ASUS H81M-R I did have to mod the case a little bit to fit in the Micro ATX, but it's sweeeeeeeeet!!! I love the case, and I have Linus to thank!

So I got mine a few days ago and yes, you can exchange the side panels without any problems at all. You can also flip the buttons, so that they are no longer upside down (as long as you don't mind opening up the button enclosure) :)

Is it just me or is the Bitfenix Logo on the white a bit tilted? 8:32 :/

What I like about those mini cases is that they guys making them are usually really creative. For standard midi cases it's usually the same deal every timel.

It's been a little over a year since I bought my Prodigy and I still love it!

I kind of liked how the Prodigy horizontal Motherboard setup really showcases video cards.

I just ordered this case, i would say it's the best in it's category (at least from my point of view), and this helped a lot with figuring out how i will cram all the stuff i need inside :)

Bitfenix announced that they will bring this out in diffrent colors now + a huge window panel for the right side.

I have the original ITX Prodigy in white. I was considering modding it to fit an m-ATX mobo, but of course Bitfenix had to release this version of the Prodigy now!!!! LOL, I'm not bitter, I still love my Prodigy. Thank Linus!

I absolutely love the Prodigy M, only issue is BitFenix itself. Extremely bad customer service, spent around a month trying to get replacement handle because mine came broke in the mail, eventually gave up after they would cut contact.

Much prefer the black over the white - looks pretty nice.

I ordered the Phenom last week on pre order I cant wait to set it up.

Sometimes I just thankful that Linus is actually a small guy. That make me easier to approximate a product to my own size

What I have heard that you can put right side panel with i/o to the left and left on right. So you can actually put window panel on right side.

There is a good 1" x 2.5" space beside the psu on the motherboard side. Plenty of space for tucking away cables.

Ok - So I don't normally whine like this into great detail, but I was very excited for this case to come, as it met all my criteria: - Small, mATX - Can fit 4 3.5" Drives - Has handles And it was Orange (favorite color) to boot. However, this case is engineered very poorly. I'll start with the 3.5" drives. First off: This case, with the hardware included, does NOT support 3.5' Drives. The HDD mounting screws have heads that are smaller than the hole you are expected to fasten the drive to. BitFenix seems to think to solve this by including rubber grommets (which smartly reduce vibration by the HDD), but this doesn't matter as the screw's head is too small. If you fasten it all the way, it will sink past the grommet and the HDD will be affixed to nothing. To solve this, I had to use hardware from a different case manufacturer (Fractal Design - I'm never migrating from them again) that had properly sized heads & rubber grommets to match (See pictures 1&2). Secondly, my drives are the new SeaGate IronWolf series drives. Their fastening points are a bit different than standard drives, and this BitFenix case does NOT accommodate that (Picture 3 is of a drive with standard fastenings, with the IronWolf fastenings circled). So even with my alternate hardware, I had to use duct tape to get the back half of my drives to sit even and not be flying around if I pick the case up. (See pictures 4&5) This is a fix, but a paltry one that is unbecoming of a case thats $100+. I expect better at this price point. I expect it to work AS ADVERTISED. Solution: Make more adjustable hole mounts so it fits different drive fastenings. See picture 6, a HDD tray from the Fractal Design case that is similar to the removable HDD rack in this BitFenix case. Since the tray is so versatile, you can move the grommets to fit your drive. The left side of the tray would accommodate my Ironwolf, where the right side is the standard grommet position, and the only positions available in the BitFenix case. Further, the "heat shield" that comes with this case is very poorly magnetized. It will fall off if you lightly set the case down. I fixed this by by electro-taping some half-pieces of neodymium magnets from inside old, busted harddrives to the shield. It works quite well, but again it is unbecoming of the case, and I don't like the idea of magnets (albeit quite small ones) of this strength so close to my precious data. Solution: Ditch the magnet design, make the shield affixable by screws. (duh!!!) Lastly, the plastic handles are a bit sharp on the underside edges. A heavy build might cut you. Solution: Make those edges rounder This case is a great idea but very poorly executed. There aren't many mATX cases with handles that (are supposed to) handle 4 3.5" drives, so I was really looking forward to a cool, quality case. Very dissappointing. I'm not sure what BitFenix will do to respond to this, god knows I'm way past returning as I have committed my drives to duct tape. But the solutions I mention above would make this case an A+ IMO. Without them, frankly, It's false advertising.

It was meant for smaller form factor gaming allowing more expandability for dual graphics instead of the traditional Prodigy cases that houses only one graphics card.

Yes, it will also fit in the mitx vesion.

While the initial response to you was uncalled for an harsh, I would recommend you order one of these and build a PC out of it without ordering a pre-built unit. You generally save money, you get the pride of building it yourself, and you control what goes in and what comes out. If you don't know how to do it, there are multiple videos by gentlemen like Linus and Logan that are very helpful. You could also come over to OCN or OCF where there are plenty of people more than willing to help.

Yeah. I believe that when we said that we want a matx Prodigy, we want the same layout with 4 expansion slots.

The fifth pci slot most likely exists because the power supply is placed so that you can't use a longer graphics card in the first pci slot. It seems like it's meant to increase compatibility so that as long as the motherboard has more than one pci-e 16 slot, you will always be able to use a graphics card.

Personally, I'm glad I went with the original Prodigy over this one, now that I've seen it. The M seems a little ridiculous to me, but I still commend BitFenix for their planning with the 5 expansion slots, they've quickly become my favorite chassis company over NZXT.

I'm 12 and I built mine. I agree, however you might have issues with bent pins on the processor if you aren't careful enough.

Hello, Linus. I have only recently discovered your channel, but I have watched so many of your videos its crazy. Keeps me up to date on things since I haven't been up to date for a while now.

True. I guess the next best thing is a smaller high wattage power supply like Silverstone's 450w sfx or evga's 500w in their hadron air case.

It'll definitely be a challenge to keep my OCD side happy and fit a kick ass gaming rig in this case one day. For now, I'll stick with my 750D.

I love small form factor for very specific builds. LAN machines (which are not as popular as they once were, i understand), HTPC's, or just "living room computers". If you can get near the same performance and lose less real estate it makes sense for some. I love the large, powerful, feature-rich mid and full towers too.

It just googled it and that thing looks epic as fudge.

The top has a dust filter, the bottom has a magnetic shield which keeps dust from coming into the case.

Planning on upgrading from a Define R4 to something smaller like this. Challenge is going to be optimal cooling of crossfire 290s, and seeing if a 240m H100i will fit inside or if I'll have to go with something smaller.

Awesome unboxing. I can't decide if I wanna get the mITX or the mATX... mITX pros are: 230 fan front effectiveness and possibility, a cleaner look, etc. But the one big con is that I can't in any possible way install SLI. And I want those double graphics cards man, I want em' bad :(

if you want the community, experience, and the old linus go to the forum and watch the livestream. He used to do this as more of a hobby and now he does it as business so he had to change in order to get views and subscription so he can support his business and family. I'm not saying your wrong at all, I'm just saying in order to get that good old linus nostalgia you have to interact more than just watching his review videos and posting complaints.

The cover is to keep out dust, kinda defeats the purpose and you vent it other ways as he has stated. Newer power supplies have two ways you can vent them rear or bottom.

yes, it is intended for ATX power supplies but something like the AX1200i or something similar will probably be too long so just watch out for that.

im running inverted right now, cooling isnt really a problem at all with a gtx 650ti, and a amd 6800k, and thats in an ancient case with one fan and little ventilation. this case seems promising imo.

Not so sure about this one, thinking more in line with the Aerocool DS Cube, I like the idea of a motherboard horisontal, not vertical (among other things).

people are saying his quality has gone down etc etc ive been watching his channel for a couple years now and i dont see what u guys are talking about i think he is basically the same just because he didnt criticize doesnt mean anything what is there to criticize its a great case people wanted a prodigy with mATX and they delivered yea it uses the shell of the itx who cares they kept the great price point this case is at! and if linus is "lowering the quality" sponsers who cares he needs to eat!

Dam it, like 4 months ago I got the prodigy and did a HTPC build in it, now I wish I had this.

I wish that bitfenix had inverted the internal layout 180 degrees because as is it forces hot air down instead of up. It would allow for better cooling at basically no real penalty if inverted. Oh well, maybe on a later revision it will be changed. Probably a reasonably simple mod anyways if you buy some add on mesh. tape was fine outro is fine

looks like you can fit one up top quite easily, but you would loose optical drive support.

I also wonder the same..... I have read somewhere, you can do that on original prodigy.

they did release a windowed version of the original prodigy, it sold out on newegg before i could purchase one

the thing i didnt like about my original prodigy that i dont see was fixed with this one is that the front grill/dust filter cannot be removed without removing bot side panels, makes it a huge PITA to clean the front grill....

Linus, I don't know if you've realised this. This case has serious issues when it comes to intake. You can't use the bottom fan as intake because it'll just suck the hot air from the PSU back into the case. The only real option is to use the top fans as intake but then you can't SLI which is like the only real point of going mATX for the prodigy?

I just put together the white Phenom today. It's a gorgeous case, I like it better than the prodigy.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a step backwards? Look at what people did with the original prodigy, the way the layout of this one is done makes it damn hard to do much more than air cool and maybe an all in one on the cpu, completely messes up custom loops.

I would flip the case over. Use the two 120mm fans, now at the bottom, as intakes and then install a 200mm fan where the heat shield would be.
