Sure enough, you had a video for that too! i never would have figured this out on my own! and my computer had 69 "important updates" to install lol

Run a command prompt again and copy/paste the following into cmd.exe: Reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dll"
When trying to run the service. I was getting an error message saying that the file was missing. The above registry command fixed my problem. Feel free to throw it in a video :D

Hello - I did run as administrator (on Windows 7) and added the "sc....netsvcs" is you suggest but I get CreateService FAILED 5: followed by Access is denied. Any thoughts? thank you

yes I did. cmd and then right mouse click and then run as administrator! and just cmd and then click cmd ... Either way it does not work ... I still get access denied. As you might know what the solution is, I like to hear it. Thanx!
so I have run the command: sc create BITS binpath= "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" start= delayed-auto in cmd prompt as an administrator. Afterwords I'm not given an error but I'm not given a successful message either. I'm just given a description of the command and the Usage/Options available for the command and the service is not being created. I'm not really sure what's going on. Also, if a leave a space between the "start=" and "delayed-auto" option it throws an error "invalid start= field"... just wanted to let you know. I'm running a server 2003 OS
II go to "cmd" and copy "sc create BITS binpath =" c: \ windows \ system32 \ svchost.exe-k netsvcs "start = delayed-auto" But I get an error message: "[SC] CreateService failed 5" "Access Denied" I myself am the administrator! What am I doing wrong???
I still get error 2. even though it shows up on the services list after I followed your guidance it says system cannot find the file specified nevermind...the problem was it was not in the Registry. so the CMD: Reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dll Fixed the issue! Richard Lloyd I've seem to come across another hiccup. BITS is now installed and set for delayed start, but it will not actually start. When I try to start it manually I get "Error 2: The system could not find the file specified." I'm assuming it's because of this that my windows updater freezes. Any suggestions?

Hey, I've been watching your videos as my Windows update was not working, Everything was fine until the BITS part, i followed this video and it worked like a charm BUT the only problem is that in manager, it shows BITS but it doesn't start running, it says it cannot find the file specified which is a real bummer, ive been trying for months to fix this and you've been the only help, if you could get back to me ASAP and tell me any suggestions that would amazing :)
OK so I have done this and all ok, however in services it is listed now but if I click start it say Error 2 cannot find file, this is getting annoying now! Think a fresh install is going to be the only way :(

Not sure why you have that problem. I did not have it on my computer when I did it on the video. Make sure you run the CMD as an Administrator. That's the only thing I could think would cause this problem. Did you use the script from my description?
I also have tried this and while I can see that BITS is in services, it says stopped and when I try to start it, I get an error message 2. I see that someone else has had this problem but I don't see if it was resolved or how it was resolved. Thanks.

Breathe Sounds like your environment variables have been messed with. Here is a link that describes how to fix that. Hi There, and thanks again for your comments. I now have BITS in my services, but my updates are still not working. If I put your text in the CMD "the service is already installed" so I must be missing something else. One thread said to check for Terminal Service and Management Instrumentation driver extentions. It looks like they deal with remote connections. I did remove a remote connection form the desktop recently.

Btw, Windows Update when it runs eats up nearly 1GB of memory for the svchost.exe when it's running, Does this seem unusual? (my machine only has 2GB running Windows 7 for years)
77dris I am using 4GB in my Windows 64 Ultimate and it works well. I use Ubuntu on a separate partition. No virus or malware worries. I use Windows when I am rendering videos.

Richard Lloyd thanks a lot for videos and quick reply . but it seems my problem is kind of legendary rootkit that disabled my antivirus(that was panda cloud security but now i'd tried about 4 antivirus after uninstalling each other and *ALL OF THEM FAILED*) this is not normal to see all of them even cant load up . i also notice that "wuauserv.dll" from system32 is also deleted and all of my BITS are missed and can't be recovered neither with CMD nor softwares that recover BITS. many of my windows keys and services are deleted , corrupted or missed - my access to some of my windows folders is lost ( my user is Admin) . it is the third day i'm searching internet to see what to do. i thought it(windows update . . service is not running . .) is one of normal errors that happens randomly but after about 16 hours searching the way to recover the BITS , i realize the problem is that rootkit , and i think i should solve that first. have any idea ? :|
