In today's video I will be doing a new first time reaction and analysis of "We Are the World" by USA for Africa. This song was written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson and recorded in 1985 by a group of famous American musicians to raise funds for African famine (Ethiopia) relief. The project, initiated by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, brought together a diverse group of artists to collaborate on the song. The vocal performances in this iconic song was nothing short of vocal excellence. What an interesting mix of rock music artists, to country music , r&b singers, pop singers and in between. This collaboration by different artists, and the overall impact of the song on both the music industry and humanitarian efforts will forever be in history. I will be offering a unique perspective as a musician interpreting and appreciating the artistry and significance of this legendary musical collaborations. In the process, I was roped in emotionally, as this song was significant in my childhood. Watch my raw, genuine and insightful reaction to We Are the World" by USA for Africa

My artists in this were Michael Jackson & Bruce Springsteen. Thinking this song get me through a very stressful period some months ago, when I was facing an eviction hearing. Not really the topic of the song, I know; but it gave me strength & hope. (And I got a stay of eviction til the end of this month.) Every time I see & hear the pairing of Michael Jackson's & Diana Ross's voices, I remember that they'd costarred in the movie The Wiz, in which Michael played the Scarecrow & Diana played Dorothy. It's a retelling of The Wizard of Oz with an all Black cast, filmed in the 70s. Great music. Have you ever seen it?

The record industry made everyone sound the same to fit whatever their role is to make the companies money. Even when the person can sing, the recording industry as a whole, including TV, will autotune and pitch correct the singers to match exactly whatever sound it is the executives want. The performers are just there to sell that particular image to the public, not actually make the music. You will never see another Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen Cindy Lauper, or Willie Nelson emerge as a superstar in today's era.

Let me see if I can give some context to the singers you may now know on the list that was already given: Paul Simon - half of the 60's folk/rock group Simon and Garfunkel. "Mrs Robinson" is probably their most popular song. James Ingram - several soul/pop songs, but did a realllly popular duet called "Baby Come to Me" with Patti Austin in the 80's. Dionne Warwick - Whitney Houston's older cousin (not aunt) and 60's legend that kept a strong career, even to this day, and had a hit song the year after this with Stevie Wonder "That's What Friends Are For" Al Jarreau - Another soul/jazz singer had a major hit in 1980 with "We're In This Love Together" and stayed pretty consistent throughout the 80's. Kenny (effin') Loggins! - Sorry, it upsets me that not enough people recognize him considering every person on Earth knows his most famous song "Highway to the Danger Zone" featured in the movie Top Gun. Daryl Hall - of Hall & Oates.. an unstoppable duo with hit after hit after hit throughout the 70's and 80's. Rich Girl, Maneater, Sara Smile, Out of Touch... this list is way too massive to write Huey Lewis - another "Kenny Loggins" You know him even if you think you don't! "The Power of Love" featured in the "Back to the Future" movie. Kim Carnes - Maybe the most forgivable for not recognizing. She had a huge hit just before this with "Betty Davis Eyes" but the rest of her songs are relatively obscure when you compare them with the rest of that room. Bruce Springsteen - the raspy voice guy has always been a huge superstar basically since his first album. He's one of the rare few whose stardom just never seems to fade, until at least, his fans die off. Cindy Lauper - The bright rainbow haired girl... another superstar who seemed to just have songs everywhere during this decade "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", the Goonies movie song, and "Time After Time" (If you're lost and you look then you will find me, time after time...). Also worth noting in the chorus shown clearly was Harry Belefonte (The Banana Boat Song, and Jump in the Line, both off the Beetlejuice soundtrack as well) and right next to him, the guy in the jacket and glasses.... Dan Akroyd... yes, the SNL star and actor from Ghostbusters (among tons more), he was and is a legitimate musician as part of the Blues Brothers Band.

I enjoy watching these reactions to this song to see how many artists are recognized, lol. I’m going to be judgmental if you don’t know who MJ is! 😜 Someone usually comes into the comments & lists all the artists so you’ll have them to refer to & I recommend you take each one & react to some of their songs. it would be an education in itself if you did! The artist I love the most from the “choir” is the black guy in the back row, standing next to the white guy in the glasses. His name is Harry Belafonte & he was an actor & civil rights activist as well as a singer who popularized calypso music in the US during the ‘50s & ‘60s. Yellow Bird was a huge hit for him as well as Day-O & Jump the Line. He had many more, but those will get you started if you pursue this.

I was watching Gen Zers watching this and the only person they knew was MJ. The rest of the WRTW cast the Gen Zer were totally lost on. And that's so sad.

The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) is so sincere and so powerful that you would think he would destroy the famine single-handedly! A great, sincere and human artist! His duet with Steve is unsurpassable!

The Hear n' Aid project was heavy metal's answer to such pop music charities like Band Aid and USA For Africa; Dio.. Halford... And many more... projects which gathered various musicians throughout the recording industry to participate in making songs that would help raise money for famine relief efforts in Africa and around the world. here the best version I could find...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5H94GHb-10.htmlfeature=shared
