Some of the Chinese parts he has tested (like the Barrow water cooling parts) are not sketchy at all. They are well-known and reputable in the region, just not known in the Western market, even though chances are they are sold in North America or Europe under different brands.
Yeah, there are a few that pop out from time to time and legend says there's a dude in Shenzhen that does conversions. Strange Parts fellow might be able to find the source...tho i don't know that they'd want to show on tape.
This was quite common with the Athlon 64 Mobile Socket 754 CPUs - we would delid an old dead 754 and attach the lid to the mobile 754.... no substrate was needed only a heatspreader lid
during the cold war the soviets stole IC designs from the US and made their own copies.. these copies were so perfect that they even copied a microscopic "owl" figure that was put there to deter that exact sort of thing
How is it sad? The i7-4720HQ was an incredible processor when it came out, and it still is. Thats why it was used in the $2700 2015 Razer Blade 14", because its pretty fast. AC voltage can be mesured in degrees as it oscilated at a given frequency through two 180° sine waves. It becomes even more complex when one has Three Phase or when ther are Inductve/capacitive loads causing voltage to lead current or vice vesa. Answer me this. Does current flow over the surface of a conductor or does it flow through it like water through a pipe?
@@andrew_koala2974 The AC voltage is measured in volts. The "phase" (more appropriately phase difference) can be measured in degrees, provided you have a multi-phase system. The CPU runs on DC, so no phase, and no 'degree' measurements. Also, lets cut this guy some slack. 'twas a slip of tongue. Happens all the time.

A guess: some of those missing pads are grounds that have been made common. Result, at least one of the voltage sensor circuits is missing its ground connection and thus the 0v reading.
@Kappa Yeah but specific pins on the socket have to be making contact with that shorted ground for it to make the reading, it cant use the ground pins from another pin in the socket to get those reading because it's not hooked up to the sensor. The grounds would all have to be shorted together on the board side too......

Actually that is brilliant. Technically you could recycle old Laptop hardware and put it up on the used market for Desktops, to get some money out of them AND cut back on electronic waste. I like the idea. The Execution is a bit ruff, but I like the idea.
All resources being considered, are you sure that'd actually produce less waste in the long run than just ramping up production of new processors? You're still spending the resources of making and soldering a new board, along with all the overhead of designing and maintaining it. Plus, being not only a mobile chip but also an old one at that, it probably won't last half as long as a new one would, and it'll suck up more electricity in the process.
@@TGuyHD To the point they probably have mobile GPU chips made into low power cards, like a mobile 1080Ti (if it exists) on a PCB that can actually be plugged in a PC and have same performance as a actual desktop variant of 1080Ti.

This only makes sense for Chinese people to buy, and that's the market it's intended for. Shipping within China is dirt cheap. You can get something from anywhere in mainland to wherever your door is for about 2$-5$ and Taobao protects buyers: you can actually make sure it works before confirming reception. Only then does the seller receive any money. Otherwise you can file for a return and they usually refund shipping too. I'd say this comes from a vendor that probably got his hands on a stockpile of laptops with dead motherboards and figured the converted CPUs would sell much faster like that than as spare parts for old laptops.
I could see it making sense for some Americans *IF* they needed the lower power consumption in a desktop package... Then again, hell, you could just buy a laptop.
not really, I rarely have issues with DOA items (I've bought two of the 4980HQs too) and I use a freight forwarder all the time for my Taobao stuff. you just gotta know how to look out for obvious scams, seller reputation, etc.
It's either that, or even brand-new but outdated CPUs left over. I mean, there's almost literally no market for these BGAs outside of PC manufacturers to begin with, and those have no doubt long retooled for newer generations.

Bor Zver He has a team (Linus Media *Group* ) and it’s his full-time job. It’s not really all that much when you consider that each video is roughly only 15 minutes long and he has more than enough editors.
@Bor Zver Most of these videos are pre-recorded from a few days ago, usually anywhere from a week to two weeks from before. Then he sends them to his team of like 5-6 editors who then edit it, then when they finish editing them they usually put them on delayed releases on youtube. Linus usually releases his stuff on Floatplane first, and releases stuff on youtube like a few days later. So usually by the time that non time sensitive videos like this reach youtube, he probably has like 5-10 videos stockpiled to be release every other day.

I had a 6-core 3930k @ 4.5hz and the same ram setup and went to a 7700k and it wasn't that much faster for most things - but it is faster, except for VR, in VR where stuff is rarely multi-threaded the 7700k was much faster. However the 4-score 7700k was slower overall, as in day to day desktop usage, it was laggy compared to the 6-core 3930k and I hated it.
