This is one of my favorite classical pieces. First time I heard it on solo piano.

This really needs another hand so that the two themes can combine at 2.30, as in the original. Makes all the difference!

For those of you who aspire to play the piano well and perhaps are under the illusion you can make a career of it, follow the score visually and see if you can keep up...or fail to. The pianist who plays this is truly accomplished and perhaps possesses a large dollop of talent.

What the hell are you talking about? This is not a difficult piece for any decently skilled pianist…
@z.a.4801

I mean, it's quite easy to follow, wdym? How is following a score any indication of how well of a pianist you can become?
@barbs8851
@barbs8851 Год назад
Perhaps you mean to sight read the music? I've perused scores for years while listening and, while the beginning was definitely hard, it just grew on me to be able to follow. Yes, that includes symphonies where a page only takes more than a second or so. I just officially started self-studying the keyboard last year since I finally got to purchase one.

The popular 2nd orchestral 4part-suite from "L' Arlésienne" (1879), based on G. Bizet's themes, was created posthumously, to a large extent, by his friend Ernest Guiraud, who was a composer & pedagogue (Cl. Debussy's composition teacher) from New Orleans, Louisiana (1837-1892). In particular, the 4th movement "Farandole", was initially a 68-bar, brief 2/4 ostinato, dance of the incidental music by Bizet (1872), for the homonymous Alphonse Daudet's drama. It was then thoroughly re-orchestrated & transformed into a 246-bar splendid symphonic piece by Guiraud. In order to achieve a better result, Guiraud introduced the "marche des Rois", ("la marcha des Rèis",1st part of the 1st "Arlésienne" suite by Bizet- an original occitan or catalonian tune), and then superimposed it to the lively farandole dance. The solo piano version, brilliantly performed by C. Katsarís, is a fine arrangement, slightly different, though close to the full score. Actually ,there are few two or four hand piano versions made, occasionally, by various artists./I.A.P. Ath.

I knew, this sounds great on piano. I started a transcription myself, but I never finished it. This one sounds good, but I miss the recap of the first theme at the end.
@espanol8015
@espanol8015 3 года назад
You should finish it, it's a relatively short section of the whole piece and should be pretty straight forward to arrange. Plus, it's a lot of fun to do :). I made one version in Musescore which contains the recap of the first theme: musescore.com/user/39109/scores/6526136?share=copy_link , but I think harmony-, voice leading -wise etc. it could be improved upon.

The solemn 3 kings theme represents the Catholic Church autocracy. The jubulliant theme represents the congregation who has overthrown religious dictatorship in favor of humanity. A wonderful dichotomy!
