Björk has composed "The Comet Song" for the film Moomins and the Comet Chase. Visit www.originalmoomin.com The Comet Song is composed and performed by Björk (lyrics by Sjón) exclusively for the new 3D-movie Moomins and the Comet Chase.
[Verse 1] With our fingers, we make million holes We run and we fall into potholes On a mission to savor the world, oh! We peek at the sky through tree holes [Chorus] Comet! Oh, damn it! The comet comes hurtling down On a precious plot of earth [Verse 2] Like the bugs in mother's flower bed We walk on long legs over the sea bed On our mission to save the world, oh! We need milk and cakes and a warm bed [Chorus] The comet! Oh, damn it! The comet comes hurtling down On a precious plot of earth [Outro] Grey leaves are too much For any mother to handle A father must pull His black hat down over the eyes
Good to see The Moomins are still in our collective consciousness. One of my childhood memories is of sitting on the sofa and thinking 'I want to go to Moomin land.'
It's fitting that a Moomin themed song should be unsettling. The books started getting progressively darker as they went on- Moomin Midwinter was particularly creepy (in a good way, might I add. I really love the Moomins). I really enjoy this song in a weird way.
the comet, oh damn it! in true bjork fashion this is complex and not centred around instant gratification like most pop acts, but something you appreciate & understand more the more times you listen to it....thats value for money and timeless art. thank you bjork. time to Post >>>>
This is not a Björk song I would listen to at home, but combined with the visuals it works very well. It's very moody, eerie and tense and it's perfect to complement the dark tone of the movie. This will certainly make children feel uneasy. If you have seen the old stopmotion series of the Moomins, this matches that weird nightmarish vibe.
This gives me a very strong Nordic feeling. Her singing and dialect sounds very familiar to how people do here, at least in my ears. Cold. It's the perfect choice to represent the artistic original nature. She is gloomy and it's winter, even with the comet.
@AlterEgoTrip The book "Comet in Moominland" was written in the late 1940's, when Finland was fearing Soviet invasion and the whole world was worried about nuclear war (an unknown thing dropping from the sky and destroying the world). There was still the movement of disposessed people from the wartime (as illustrated in the proto-Moomin book, "The Little Trolls and the Big Floood").
i really liked it. it's very experimental, and very offbeat. Björk has always been a great musician but what's sad is that she's very unappriciated because of how "odd" she is or how she sings. What's wrong with being a little extra ordinary? And personally I love her voice.
On the first listen, I was verbally curious as to what it was. On the immediate second listen, it was just like a book falling open in front of me. I felt informed. I felt...like a child. The balance of the music and imagery is avant-garde at best, and altogether immensely charming to me. Bjork captivated me all over again, didn't she? I like the lyricist's pen. It meshed so well with the voice and formal elements of the vid. Sorry, I had a moment...
I wonder as to the thought process of Icelandic producers. "We are making our nation's first 3D animation, how can we appeal to children internationally and make it a success? .... I know, let's get screechy Bjork to sing an abrasive and abstract song, kids will love it!"
First time I heard this song I didn't understand it. Second time I heard it I thought "wait a minute, this is good...". Tonight I came home with this mysterious melody in my head. After a while I remembered what it was. The Comet Song!
Any good musician's style changes over the years. I don't expect Bjork to stay the same. She is so different now. I am very curious what her next album will be like.
Man, it's been so long since I read that book... It always perplexed me how the comet seemingly did absolutely nothing to the world instead of shattering, sundering, destroying, completely annihilating the moomins' planet. I might have forgotten it, or maybe there never really was any explanation as to why the planet (and the moomins, and their friends) survived being struck by a comet. Puzzling.
I love it! Bjork always does what she wants to do even if its unpopular. More musicians should be willing to push the limits instead of trying to get money.
@aterashva me too! I miss 1990s Bjork . . . .she is to the point where she does what the hell she wants. . . .but still, I cannot help her . . . .I am enchanted by her voice, her . . . . I cannot explain it, but . . .I still sigh from time to time listening to her new materials.
im a HUGE fan of Bjork... but i seem less enjoy and absorb to her new songs... Medulla took me awhile but who is it & mouths cradle are really good and i really enjoy this album Volta i only listened to for a few times.. this new song ..i just fail to love it anyone can help me to fall in love with her again? i want "union" "i miss u" "cocoon"......i want something enchanting..
@fflybz seems you are not familiar with the other songs from her singles, actually this kind of songs are the ones that suit nice for her voice and the ambient like other videos(like wanderlust)
I just remembered the Moomins all of a sudden... I completely forgot them, and now.. I don't know, they smell like my childhood. And so does this song. (nostalgic moment, sorry.)
It's so tenderly disturbing... I always seem to find in almost every piece of art you do, Björk my dear, some delightful contradiction that in the end it isn't so... But you have to reach deep to realize the truth within. I have always found it as challenging as rewarding, and that's one of the reasons why you are my favourite artist. Life is beautiful and terrible at the same time...
wow, you guys are not going to believe this, but i have this reocurring nightmare about a meteor or comet crashing into the earth and seeing it,hearing it, and i always wake up right before it happens. and this is a childrens movie? but hey i love bjork and she can do no wrong. reminds me of her early solo songs that sound like a fairy tale or sometype of pixie song. beautiful...bjork please come to seattle!
mynameiskranz well its about a comet. Comets can be Wery scary. I think more that the song is cute. Not so scary. But i think The Walking Dead theme song is scary. I mean if you want to hear a scary tune the walking dead tune is.
i like the song towards the end when it sounds more industrial, but for me, i feel like it ends just as its getting interesting... like from 2:01 its good, the rest is a bit slow
The cartoon looks like based on the 2nd edition of the book as it has a kitten in it. The 1st edition had a monkey instead. Otherwise this looks and sounds great! ... For adults. Not sure if I'd appreciate this at the age of five. %)
ok. i have watched a few of bjork's music videos now. and i have to say. they make almost no sense. but i like them. theya re just weird but still sound good and make me thing "What the hell?" and i like that.
I bought the single thinking it would be this version and its not, its actually kind've disappointing. There's too much background noise/vocals and it doesn't have the cool little voice blip at 1:13. I think that little blip makes the whole song.
To each their own, but I seriously can't stand to listen to it, and can't even to begin to understand why anyone else would either. I'm sure on some level it's very artistic, but as far as appealing to the ear, no thank you.
