At least Lillelien had a certain philosophy commenting spots advents. He gave it all no matter how boring the sport were. He was a radio commentaror. At least the listener should have the entertainment via radio. When radio and tv did send contemporary from the same spots event, we used to look at tv and listen to radio. Far post in football Lillelien screamed just outside the box! And made one hell of a number out of it. We did laugh so hard! But Lillelien was fantastic! He's a legend in Norway

At the end he actually says that "Norway" and not "we" have beaten England at football. Sorry about that one too. A couple or more mistakes sneaked in, but I hope the most of you interested in this cult moment got it right anyway. Myself, a Leeds fan named after Peter Lorimer, can hardly remember it (I can, but hardly), still hold this as one of the five greatest moments of Norwegian international football of all time. And the commentary: Legendary Still: Hats off to England, our big brother.

Have been feeling a bit miserable and fed up tonight, Hedda but I knew where to come to put a smile back on my fizog!:-) Shame he's dead (thanks for that info, Antonsen Fan) but at least he's left us something behind that will forever make Norwegians and Brits (especially the Scots, Welsh and Irish, I expect) happy and ensure he will be remembered for a long time to come.

Indeed. Norwegian football fans who have followed English football for a lifetime, will of course be aware of this fact, recently revived also in Norwegian media when she passed away a short time ago. But back then, 32 years ago, Maggie Thatcher was the prime minister of the UK and thus, to the Norwegian public in general, an icon as the leader of England.

Ha! That's fantastic (as is your English, by the way. I wish I could speak another language half as well as you do English... fuck! I wish i could speak English, my own language half as well as you do!:-) Thanks very much for that mate. This guy is a bit of a celebrity in Britain due to his wonderfully excitable monologue.

At least, there was no known hooliganism in Oslo in 1981, and very little in 1993. Although a hundred or so English hooligans were grounded and detained by Norwegian police when they tried to smash up a pub or something, I was downtown that night, but luckily stayed away from the trouble (which obviously didn't last for long). I don't know their motives, but they just came back from a disappointing result in Poland, and rumours have it that Norwegian bouncers had beaten up English fans badly.

@Triplesod There are various versions on YT, but I can not find what was said at the end. Lillelien: Back to the studio! Studio: It's easier said than done

Norway have beaten England! 2-1 at football! We're the best in the world! We're the best in the world! We've beaten England 2-1 at football! It's completely unbelievable! England! England, the home of giants! Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana! We have beaten them all! We have beaten them all! Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me? Maggie Thacher, I have a message for you in the middle of your election campaign...

How ironic! Maggie Thatcher hated football, and would probably have preferred England not to qualify for anything, as she disliked dealing with the security aspects of hooliganism.

Kanskje du kunne finne seierstalen da Norge slo Frankrike for første gang også? Jeg tror den gikk noe slik som "Saken er biff! - saken er karbonader! - saken er pølser og potetstappe!" etc etc etc

Incidentally. Would someone be kind enough to a typical, ignorant, mono-language Brit and please translate what he is saying (apart from, obviously, the English bits). I know how good Scandinavians (but Norwegians in particular) with other languages, especially English.

... I have a message for you: We have knocked England out of the World Cup in football! Maggie Thatcher, as they would say in your language in the boxing bars around Madison Square Garden in New York: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating! Maggie Thatcher: We have beaten England at football! We are the best in the world!

When it comes to football, at least you beat us 6-1 in Oslo in 1966 after a Jimmy Greaves hat-trick. When the English were full-time professionals at top of the world and the Norwegians poor amateurs not even allowed to play professional football abroad and represent the national team at home!. That's a fact. But after that... I'm not so sure, mate.. Knocked you out of the '94 World Cup, didn't we? In style, as well... Hoped I'd never had to post this.

Whats the point saying this! England is a shit country!
@peterbrydje
@peterbrydje 11 лет назад
The message turned out to be too long, so I had to split it up. Obviously, it should have been the other way round, with "Norway have beaten..." an so forth first, and the part with "your boys took a hell of a beating" last. Just an attempt to get it right word by word. Greetings from Norway!
