BJJ Back escape when opponent goes to the underhook side 

You are a great teacher.

I was rolling with my friend and got my back taken, ended up in a position very similiar to 1:34 . I ended up arm-barring their open right arm by pulling it down against my own head and neck . It worked but we are both white belts. Is this submission practical or did he miss an easy counter?
