As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt, here are some things to focus on as you pursue the path to the purple belt! It's not just a set number of moves to be learned, but rather a clarity of vision to be achieved!

I've watched a bunch of these kind of videos explaining paths from belt to belt and I think your's is one of, if not the best and most clear that I've seen.

I’m a late-promoted blue belt and I can see what coach meant about there being baiting-sequences. I’m blessed to roll with black belts every Friday and they talk on that high “level” of technique. They say they are 4 steps ahead of where they’re at in the moment when they’re rolling. I can see what they mean now. Can’t wait for purple!

What is a "late promoted blue belt"... not picking, just not familiar with the phrase

@@NXG_HQ My coach is known for not promoting anyone in any form of a system. He’s a fighter and he thinks since we don’t train 2 times a day 6 days a week like he did in Rio, means we are worthless and don’t deserve to be promoted on the more common schedule. I rolled with 4 black belts in an open mat and all of them said I was a upper level blue belt. I was a white belt then for 5 year until 1 month ago.

@@pabloamericano4930 I better understand what you mean now. Perhaps this is a great thing though as following this method you will always be solid at what ever rank you hold. I know students train for a variety of reasons, and different Professors have their ideas on promotion so I am no one to question someone else. If you believe your training is solid, and the environment is one in which you will grow then you have found a good gym to call home!

I’m a 3 stripe blue and just starting to connect things together. Trying to avoid my go-to moves rolling so I can explore other things. Great vid 🤙

I'm going for my first stripe on my blue belt in November, it's been such a fantastic journey I don't even care about belt colours I just love getting my ass kicked and doing the ass kicking sometimes lol. "You gotta be the nail before you can be the hammer"

I’m very aware of the blue belt curse. Lots of people quit and I refuse to be a statistic. I’m just feeling very stagnant right now. I’m staying too passive. It’s driving me crazy. I’m just not clicking like I should.

We all have our peaks, plateaus and even some ruts along the way. I'm still subjected to this reality as well. I think the longer you train, the more you recognize the growth that comes on the back end so you don't dwell as hard on the lows (but we all deal with this as part of the process). My biggest encouragement is of course to keep showing up, but I also encourage you to research some new material, spend some time working different areas of your game and use the variance to spice up your game. When the time is right, you will see the elevation in your progress!

Very nice information. Can you expand on blue to first strip blue. As a guild to know if you are where you are suppose to be. Thanks

Great Suggestion - I will say that it becomes quite difficult to speak on stripes in general. Each Instructor has their own vision for stripes, with some gyms not even using stripes beyond white belt. Honestly, I am a four stripe Brown Belt (and full time coach) and this is the only belt that I have every had with all four stripes. In my experience, the consensus from one academy to the next is generally similar regarding belts, but stripes are quite subjective. Definitely appreciate the suggestion though, and hope you'll provide additional ideas for content as well!

Is it disrespectful to ask a coach what he’s looking for from blue to purple?
@NXG_HQ
@NXG_HQ 2 года назад
As a coach, I do not at all find it disrespectful. Of course, I only speak for myself, but I feel this is a solid question to ask. Most of the time the student is asking what the coach wants to see and towards what goals the student should be aiming. A coach should be thrilled to help guide that progress (which will then lead you towards the next belt). The belt is just a marker of that progress so if we as coaches use it as a marker for the students, I dont really understand why it is such a taboo inquiry coming from the student.
