I"ll show you a detailed look at the kindergarten curriculum that I used with my five year old this year. It’s a beautiful curriculum that is so well put together and so easy to follow that even the new homeschool mama can do it. The scripted lesson plans are very well organized and include a tried and true phonics program, social studies, beginning science concepts, beginning composition, narration, comprehension, crafts, learning centers, and handwriting. Thank you for the wonderful review. My 6th grader is doing BJU online so I’m looking into BJU for next year for my incoming kindergartner. I have a 2 year old also and am debating the DVD or online videos because I worry my toddler might interrupt my “teaching” too much.😬

Hi there! We used BJU distance learning for years. I think since the very beginning. We used the k5 Beginnings distance learning for my son because I had a baby at that time. He did well with it. However, looking back and comparing that to what I’ve just done with my 5 year old this year, I can’t help but wish I’d had that sweet time with my son. We DID get interrupted by my littles a lot this year, but I also taught them what to do while Mommy and big sissy were busy. If you’re interested, Keep an eye out for content on keeping toddlers busy coming soon. But, either way, it’s a good program and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with it. We really enjoyed both ways.

Yup! I had to go through several and make a decision. LOL. The decision about what to use is a yearly one no matter how long you've been doing it. :) But I was very pleased with this choice.

Thank you for this! My son will be in kindergarten next year. I’ve debated on BJU press and Abeka. I think BJU a press might be a better fit for us. I haven’t had a chance to watch the whole thing but are you showing the kindergarten kit?

Yes, this is the Kindergarten kit, minus the math curriculum.

Could you tell me what all we would need if we just wanted to use focus on fives for ELA/phonics? I see the whole kit, but we’re not interested in them for science/heritage studies. Thank you so much!

Focus on Fives comes as a kit. The heritage studies and science concepts are mixed in throughout and included within each workbook, so it would be difficult to separate them. The K science and heritage studies concepts are so basic, that if you wanted to use something else, I'm sure you could use anything along side Focus on Fives with no problem. Hey where can I find the k 5 rubric assessment video and pages ? I’ve looked everywhere. I’m new to this stuff lol I’m homeschooling my three granddaughters. Twins are in kindergarten and nine year old granddaughter is in fourth grade

Hmm, I’m not sure exactly what you are referring to, but assessment lessons are included at the end of each unit. Hope helps.

Hello, thank you for this great review! I'm thinking of trying this curriculum next school for my kindergartner. Im wanting to know your thoughts about how well the phonics teachers letter sounds? Would you suggest kids know their sounds beforehand or does it teach it well enough for a child who doesn't know any sounds?

Children will learn the sounds as they go through this curriculum. It’s gentle but at the end they are still reading quite well.

Are the Easter parts incorporated with the regular lessons? My fear is if we don't start at a traditional time we'd be doing Easter things in July, lol.

No, the holiday portions are extra and included in the teachers book.

I am really struggling with the music part of this curriculum. I found the instrumental part online, but is there any where to find someone actually singing the songs?

I have the same struggle with the music part and I cannot figure out how to sing the songs. I wish they would provide a cd with the songs for parents that are teaching with the teacher books.

Hi there. I sang them my own way. Lol. But the music was included in the teachers manual in the appendix, so I usually plinked it out on my piano before we sang it. I don’t know of a cd. Hope that helps.

On the extended activities where do you find the suggested books to read?

I believe those are included in the teachers guide for each of those lessons.

No, they are not included. I actually called BJU and they said you purchase those separate or see if my local library has them (which I checked and they did not have them). It would be nice for BJU to include the suggested books too. Thanks.

I purchased everything in the teacher's kit besides math, and then everything in the student kit besides math. Hope that makes sense.

I used a different math curriculum just because my child at that time didn’t seem quite ready to begin formal math instruction. We played a lot of hands on games and then used Math With Confidence.

Math is separate, but BJU Press does have math available and it’s nice, too.

I use BJU Press for 1st along with other things. I have used it for 2nd for some of my children.
