Hi Kerri! Happy New Year! I haven't checked in for a while. I'm sooooo proud of and impressed with you. I can hardly believe that it's been 6 months already since you began this journey. You have accomplished so much in this short time. You are an amazing person! I started my journey on December 10th with an above-the-knee amputation. I'm doing amazingly well; better than I expected. I return to the operating room on Feb. 11th for the second part of my osseointegration procedure when the implant will be placed in my thigh which will eventually allow me to attach my prosthesis. I'm so excited. The excruciating pain that I experienced before the amputation is completely gone! After more than 2 decades, it's wonderful to live without pain. However, I am experiencing some phantom sensations which include intermittent sessions of what feels like electrical currents surging through my amputated foot. Not really pain but darned annoying. If you have experienced phantom sensations, can you please do a video on how you handle them? It's so wonderful to see you finally "living" your life after such a long time in pain. You give so many like me, HOPE. Keep up the great work!

Hey!! I’m so glad to hear from you! I’m really excited about the next chapter of your journey. I hope you update me on it! Thank you for your kind encouraging words. It’s been a journey for sure. And I know what you mean by not having the chronic pain anymore. It’s weird but so welcomed! For phantom pain, I made a video but can make another, I use CBD/THC every evening to sleep without the phantom pain. Fresh out of surgery I used towel pull exercises, zero sugar and added magnesium to help them go away faster and stay less painful. When I did have strong ones I used a heating pad or ice. Pain meds didn’t touch them so I didn’t bother. I am here to answer any questions so please feel free! If I think of a few more things I used I will add them!

So, having the bone-bridge procedure didn’t help at all?

At what time did you get a shrinking sock. I am 2 months postop for RAKA and they are waiting for some swelling to go down.
@ElectiveAmputation
@ElectiveAmputation 2 года назад
I never got a shrinker because I had an Ertl. Meaning he did not want my muscle to atrophy because I had a working calf muscle. However as soon as I got my socket, it shrank rapidly. Probably because of the compression. I have seen where most amputees get the shrinker within the same week of the amputation. To reduce swelling, try to eliminate caffeine and sugar. Also elevating the limb helps

I'm so proud of how far you've come! To an outsider like me it seems like this has been a very difficult journey but worth it in the end. Promise me one thing though; please do NOT run with your walking prosthesis!! It doesn't have the bounce that is required for running and will be detrimental to your stump, your left knee, your pelvis, and pretty much every other part of the body that is bearing weight when you're running. It sucks to not be able to run, but this is a temporary situation until you can get a running blade, whereas damaged joints are often permanent. Take care of yourself, I wish you and your family the very best for the new year!
@ElectiveAmputation
@ElectiveAmputation 2 года назад
Thank you so much! I do have a blade. It’s the all pro blade meant for running short distances. It is an everyday bouncy foot but meant for running. I’m excited to try! But I promise I will listen carefully to my body of any aches or pains. I’ll take it slowly. I hope you have a wonderful year!
