Very useful. After decades of practice where I learnt from an Australian student of Guru Iyenger in India, I still find Pranayama one of the most profound aspects of Yoga! She taught following the precision and alignment of the Iyengar method. I am doing my advance yoga teacher training now and I refer back to Guru Iyengar's lectures all the time! Just beautiful 🙏
My guru i respect him as a fantastic guru and human being, as i faced him personally i was fortunate i wish i would have stayed with him till his last breath .although he is not there physically but i feel his presence always .i am grateful to God and my guru who cured and taught me yoga.may God bless him and his soul.
A person is either a Yogi or he is not. There is no middle way around. As sadhguru also says, that holding your breath for 4 minutes or over is not a magic, infact knowing your self and remaining calm and composed in every situation is . There are very few souls who know Yoga the way Guru Iyenger does. Its not mere acrobatics. It is self realization and the postures are the medium to do that. If a posture in an asana is painful it means the Yogi(Practitioner) will have to work towards it as the body is'nt responding correctly. We may get allured by the flexibility in the bodies of some self proclaimed gurus running amok in US and India, but I swear some of them do not know a thing about the way of life ' Yoga' is. Its an illegal patented way to destroy the health of their followers. I was late in realizing that unless I stopped practicing under one of a Guru in India. I was being taught the 'Forward Bending Pose' as in 'Padhastasana or Uttanasana' by bending my back in an arch in an unnatural way. As we all know, the bend comes like a piece of paper is folded in half. The spinal column is always straight with chest outwards, until we reach the bottom of the bend. I just gave an example to tell that please beware of self proclaimed gurus. I rushed into learning at a faster pace without even knowing the intricacies of my own body. Every human beings anatomy is different. Heartfelt Thanks to Shri B.K. Iyenger.
@@apnasapna1713 never a good option, I suggest to try with a yoga teacher, just experiment with what your local people offer. it's quite hard to learn from a book
Pranam Gurudev :*. Perhaps he is the rarest of those yoga masters who interprets yoga as it is, unspoilt. I met one of my acquaintances who had done diving course and was full of ego that he can hold breath upto 4 minutes! I didn't say anything initially but quoted Yagnyavalka and Sage Patanjali himself..Things went of hand. He still does topsy-turvy poses (FB/Insta yogi) and teaches it to others but none has been 'transformed'. It's very sad that us Indians have lost the art & science of breathing
Yes! Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya was his brother in law. Guruji was in poor health and Sri invited him to come for learning yoga for to improving Guruji's health. Guruji's books "Light on Yoga" and (especially) "Light on Pranayama" changed my life when I read them as a youth. Deepest pranams, Guruji. 🙏
What's so simple about it? There is nothing practical in his words, he's just making up stuff to fit into cute English. Real pranayama isn't done with breathing. The ancient scripts are written symbolically and were not talking about breathing. Kumbhaka counts start at 48 and can go as high as 360, so you would die trying to hold the breath that long. Which would violate the 1st Yama of Ahimsa. Real pranayama is a series of techniques that direct mental energy. It is not a physical activity.
BKS Iyengar made up his ‘own style of what he called My -Yoga’method’ BKS DID Not TEACH: Authentic Classical Yoga. This is Very Important For Anyone Interested in Learning Yoga - BKS is Not Authentic. Go to His Son, Prashant Iyengar is Authentic.
Precision and Alignment Two words. Overdone. Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Ramana Maharishi did Not Say: “Sit Straight with a Poker Stiff Spine, Puff the Chest, Present the Chest is Pranayama.
I understand that many videos like these are manually transcribed. A proper job needs to be done to ensure clarity of message. If you would like help with this, please contact me, I have performed transcription services already to P. Iyengar's videos.
Vayu air is the clothing of soul.Hatha yoga is for body kind. For mind kind people Gyana yoga is the real deal.Westerners are more body conscious. So hatha yoga is suitable for them.Which makes them more beastly not saintly. It is culture which refines. They don’t have it and Indians don’t want it.So Indians are turning into beasts learning hatha yoga and aping west and forgetting Vedas and upanishads.Best of mad worlds.
It seems he’s saying ....The quality of the in-breath empties the SELF/soul to the internal frontier of the body - to spiritually energise the body- so the body/soul connect, then in the out-breath, the body (bodily energy) follows the soul back to the transcendental source...and counting is useless- haha.
Subtitles make into Russian (!) By me. All other - automatically translated. Of course, with auto subs impossible to understand what Guruji intent was on his speach
Watching another video of a previous lecture he mentions the anterior base of the spine vs. the posterior base of the spine and a light bulb popped! AUM - A= Brahma U = Vishnu M =Shiva
Please is there someone who could fix the subtitles? They are substantially wrong, which is a great loss for those who must rely on the subtitles. But meanwhile thank you for the clip!
We are not comparing any two persons physique here. hope you understand that. your grandfather would be appreciated for climbing a palm tree and BKS iyengar for teaching yoga to millions of students across the world.
You do practice every day. That's how. Find a good teacher you can practice with. Do not go to led classes if you want to cure ocd (or anything else). Mysore style classes are a must with a truly qualified teacher. Find a good ashtanga yoga school in your neighborhood. They can help you for sure.
Alexander Lemberg thanks my dear for valuable answer. my problem is that I am from Pakistan and have no any yoga teacher even no yoga concept hardly in area even in near couple of districts
Ok, let's focus on what you have and what you can do. You obviously have internet access. On youtube you find a good ashtanga teacher that resonates with you. Learn to do sun salutation A and B. When you are able to do Surya Namaskar A and B, you do them every morning before eating any food. Every morning. No internet, no music, no nothing. Just do surya namaskar A and B, 5 rounds each. That is 10 sun salutations in total. When you successfully have done that for a month. Every day. Then you can contact me for further guidance, or simply research yourself. Make sure to stay safe in the poses, and use a mirror or camera to learn to adjust your own body. Downward facing dog (adho mukhva svanasana) is a pose that might cause trouble in the beginning. If such is the case, please bend your knees and make sure your spine is lengthening, but absolutely not arching, as you even can see many teachers on youtube and instagram showing. Do not arch your spine in down dog. Happy experimenting and take care of yourself :) The most important part of the sun salutation is doing it in vinyasa style. Stay with your breath. Let the movements last as long as your breath, and learn ujjayi breath for the yoga.
Alexander Lemberg thank you so much for your kind and valuable concern. also how amazing beautiful soul you are,who is helping me. sure I 'll start suriya namskar. I should not say but since last year during my search,no one was ready to help without payment
Sorry I need help. English language is not my first language so I am in difficult to understand his English pronunciation I have understand ( maybe) that I haven't to count same seconds when I hold the breath. I am right? Thanks a lot
Inhale = Brahma, Puraka, your soul from your I in deep inside, from heart going to your body and creating space for it. Your mind must go with breath and increase space sizes, feel most far areas from your inner - your skin. Energy creating phase. When you stop breath at your maximum it's Kumbhaka, Visnhu, it's energy using phase. Mind must feel, not looking on clocks for "how long already?". Exhale = Maheshvara, Shive, your body going to your heart, to soul, to your "I", from skin to deep inside. It's purification and release phase. You release yourself from being in material body, from space and time and go to eternity. That all is written in his "Pranayama Dipika" and "Light of the Yogin's life" books.
Vashe Blago Thanks I understood inhalation well and kumbaka and exhalation to some extent . The one thing that is not clear is what happens during kumbaka and when we would know that it is time to exhale. Could you please explain these
@@vigneshbaskaran910 From the video - when your inner exhale really started, your form is lost inside, it's the time to start your outer exhale. In AtmaRama yoga master Karuna Ram sayd that we hold our lungs extended by holding shoulders open (risen and wide). If your frontal armpit falls - it's over, go to exhale
erm one year into yoga , and i understood what he meant , with practice i can see what he means when he says container ... and it makes sense now ... not when i started ... i first youtubed PRANAYAMA .. oh those mighty words lol .. and thought the same . im glad i came back to this video now . i needed to be sure . And now i am sure im on the right path at least.
