Saturday 24th February 2024 would see another running of the Railway Touring Company's popular 'White Rose' railtour from London Kings Cross to York and return along the ECML. Starting from Kings Cross the tour would first run along the Hertford Loop then join the ECML at Bragbury Junction, Stevenage and call at Stevenage, Huntingdon, Peterborough and Retford running direct up the ECML to York. The return would be via Church Fenton and Lincoln with steam replacing diesel at Peterborough. In charge for the steam leg was Black 5 no.44871.
Usual timings on the southern section of the ECML meant only one location was possible without going north of Huntingdon, I gave thought to Watton-at-Stone but thought there was a risk she would be coasting along behind the stopper so went back to Bridge Road, Stevenage, in the hope of better weather than the torrential rain and wind I filmed 44871 in last December. Alas while there was no wind or rain there was thick fog so two cameras show a different angles of 44871 appearing out the fog working hard away from the passenger pick up at Stevenage.
