This was truly an amazing game for the PS2. Graphics and environmental damage were ahead of its time. This was an unspoken gem and it definitely deserves a comeback. Even if it's just the same game with a new graphics engine
Martinus Angrianto Basically the protagonist (Keller, I think) killed a guy who his up tops were aware of that was a defector that faked his own death to lead a military, they were using that guy as a source of intel for another operation. It's kinda like the way cops use known criminals as rogues and let them off the hook, to get more info about what's going on in the streets from the sidelines, because said criminal is a friendlier face to the underground than a cop. So the guys up top interrogating Keller got pissed and that's where the interrogation came from. The first 80% of the game is the buildup to what happened, and the last part of the game is the explanation of why he's being interrogated.
Martinus Angrianto the beginning sets up the situation of the story and the conversations through the radio pretty much tell the rest. There is a good chunk of info in the cutscenes after each mission too
The small detail with Black is that when you reload when no enemy around, it actually a bit slower than when there's enemy nearby or in a gunfight. I love it, it's like the character actually enjoy reloading the gun.
Not that he enjoys it, it’s realistic. This is the ONLY game i know that actually simulates reloading faster because of danger. Every other game sticks to making you reload slow no matter what, or too fast.
@@builderwack4459 Actually Insurgency: Sandstorm has two ways of reloading, Single tap R is a slow reload keeping the magazine for later use, while a double tap R is a quick reload dumping your old mag.

AndersonBB36 it doesn’t exist because it’s too blurry nobody’s peripheral view is that bad, this would be terrible for multiplayer could be fine for single player

Rockett Sally This, and Counter-Strike 1.6 AK sounds are SO powerful, on CS1.6 you could hear an AK from the other side of the map and intantly recognize it, CSGO AK is trash compared to it's brethren.
I could't care less about the chamber of the AK its left insteed of right, the 90 rounds magazine of the UZI, or the Glock sliding backwards when realoading with a round still chambered... And many other things. This game is GOLDEN.
Yeah, that is one of the downside thing in this game. No jumping feature in this game.......but I still like it because of the gunplay, music, graphic, and all sound of this game :-)
But I still like this game because it has good graphics (although it feels a bit outdated now due to its low resolution), sound effects (every SMG and AR carried by enemies have different pitches during combat, even they wield same weapon), music and radio chatter (the voice acting still amaze me). I never played other games that have similar sensations with this one.
No jumping, lack of interacton thing in a game. Compare to other modern FPS. It feels like a modern version of early 90s shooter (for example Wolfenstein, Catacomb 3D, Blake Stone, etc, etc) when it was just a straight walk and shooting with no jump and sprint. But.. people don't care because this game has satisfying gunplay, shooting mechanic, sounds(although there were still an inaccurate issue of some gun sound) missionary and level design, that's where it really shine despite of its flawed. I wish Criterion could make BLACK 2 and implement more feature that BLACK 1 lacked
Just a quick correction to this video, the Mac-10 Elite has 2 different sounds, one for it's Silver variant, and one for the Default Black variant, for some reason the Silver sounds suppressed, same goes for Uzi.
Forgot the G36 as well. Default and Silver sound different. Main reason why I kept a regular and Silver weapon profile cause the sounds I didn't like >_
@@prabowonegoro3693 The silver Mac10 still has a distinguishable sound when its surpressor is on tho It should be some sort of bug when silver weapons are unlocked, but, the damage multiplier is the same as a default unsurpressed weapon so...
That reload always bugged me. It would have been less annoying if your character just rammed them into the cylinder instead of taking a few extra moments to examine the speed loader.
the reason it was canceled was because of stuart black's fight with other producers who wanted BLACK to change history before it being finished still EA's fault tho
Man black was an amazing game to bad it never really got a lot of love even after it got ported to the Xbox 360. For the people saying it was released for the xbox I am aware of that, it's where I originally played it, but there is an xbox 360 version
Giuseppe Spinelli The only problem is that this game was a commercial failure and the planned sequel was cancelled in 2008. However, There is a game called "Bodycount" which is a spiritual successor to "BLACK" (this game). Except it's garbage. It might worth a try if you have nothing else to do with your free-time since the game cost around $20.
DareMan172?!?! LOL, Black wasn't a failure. It is just an underrated FPS game. And yet deserved to be in Top 5 underrated shooting game of all time. Same like Blood
I loved this game so much back in the day I actually grinded all the way through 3 times on every difficulty to unlock the platinum guns and the 203 for the M4. Absolutely worth it. Also I love how the MP5 sound effect was literally ripped straight from Die Hard.
But no from me,RPG-7 warhead contain High Explosive Anti Tank it can penetrate armor such as tank,APCs,thick Walls and everything. But the game designer is reduce power for the RPG?Here's an idea, how about the PG-7 warhead replaced with OG-7 warhead for enemy personnel?
The graphics, animations, everything look so much more interesting than most generic ultra HD realistic crap that they make now days. Effort, passion and creativity>>>>Graphics. I rather replay this game on a PS2 than any new FPS.
This game was like the equivalent to playing a game version of those late 80’s early 90’s action movies, it even uses the same sound effects for the MP5 from Die Hard. Not to mention that all the rifles have unrealistic ammo capacity lol
Somebody remember the last level with the machinegun bunkers? you had some concrete beams for cover but the beams ended up destroyed with the rebar exposed. what a fucking good game.
Actually Black has a lot refference to 90's films Like The Rock Remember the 5th mission when you entered a bathroom It really resemblemces with one of scenes in the rock
I only just played through this game last year and OHHHHHHH MAN was I sleeping on a good one. It's a real contender for "most satisfying standard FPS guns ever." And when I found the P90 a few levels in, my instant reaction was "Yup. I love this game."
Additional: The chrome color of the guns where from compete the game in a certain difficulty ( but will only work in that difficulty ) but if you beat the game in the hardest difficulty, you get chrome, infinite ammo ( in terms of infinite reserves ) and can be use in any difficulty. In resume, you can use it on easy mode and just destroy everyone with no risk and infinite ammo
Such a good game, I remember when it came out, there was nothing like it. I loved the sounds, animations, mechanics, effects, everything about all the guns. I really think this game inspired modern warfare, and to be honest, I wish they would make this back playable on modern systems AND get back to work on Black 2. This game doesn’t get enough credit in my opinion.
incredible to know that they made this game on GTA SA's graphics engine. I always thought having similar weapons in both games was a deliberate coincidence.
11:46 the "scream" of the RPG is burned into my memory from watching my dad play through this game when I was a kid, never heard it sound like that anywhere else.
Fun fact=RPGs are huge threats to vehicles irl, such as tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, small boat, and enemy personnel. That's you scared when you hear it scream
I like how the character can load a 20 round magazine into the M16 and have 95 rounds to spend. Little stuff like that is what made this game so comedic, fun and enjoyable.
That's not M16,in game it says"M16A1"that's version for Vietnam war and fires burst not full auto, also in game is basically copy of M4A1 or M4 carbine, the mag usually contains 30 round, but in game it contain 95 rounds to make it goes to light machine gun.The mag sized it's uhhh....like M16A1,if you want to increase ammo capacity go slap on those extended mags
I always found it odd that all weapons when shot semi-auto, both with or without supressor, gave a shot echo, but not on burst or full auto. I swear even the rpg did this. Cool, but odd.
One of the best n underatted games on ps2 bro this game was hard as hell bcz of no sensivity adjistment but it was still a banger .imagine i bought an old ps2 jst to play this game (Lemme tell yall) Yeah i bought the ps2 I got lucky to still have a old n big televsion with a headphone jack The crazy part is the game looks like hd when playing Smoked some good weed n i played the game all night long alone with jst the game n those lovely nostalgic feeling
Unknown Pivoter There is a comment around here that says why it is like that.. those guns are the secret silver variants you can find in the map and for no reason at all they sound like that
Marcos Brandao It's for the young I guess, make them want to enter the military. What about the squeak of the suppressors!?!?! .......right, that's almost on target as well.
You wrong again son,the trigger finger placed front of the grip, also the iron sight should raised a little bit higher, the player does not cocked it after reload, the iron sights are not accurate, the PG-7 warhead is attached with booster and filled with a wings inside to stabilizer the rocket but they are missing, the traces from the booster is invisible, the holes near the warhead does not activate for more boost.
Yeah, i remember when the companys used to sold the complete videogames. Before: you want new modes, characters or cheats? Play the hell out of it Now: you want new modes characters or cheats? Buy a f'king DLC
I don't want to annoy anyone, but that Walther WA2000 is incorrect. It was a semi-auto, self-loading rifle in reality, but in game it is a manually operated bolt-action rifle. Even worse is that it was designed in a bullpup configuration in real life, yet it has a conventional configuration in game. Despite this rant about the WA2000, I loved this game back in my time as a child, playing my PS2. I did not get past the second level, tho, I sucked at this game by that age, but I still loved Black, a real classic that smells like childhood for me.
Same with the SPAS-12 Both being semiauto weapons IRL, in-game, the SPAS is a pump-action and the WA bolt-action due to how powerful they are in comparison to most other guns(except for the Magnum and RPG)
I believe Sean Murray of Hello Games, was the lead programmer on this game; explains the great sound effects and environmental damage. He also helped on the development of Burnout 3.
I miss when your character would automatically examine your guns when in sitting in idle sucks games no longer do that I would like to see that return for any fps even more with different examine animations at time
i love this game cause its has a on what i call a ¨Stress reloading¨ you can see it when reloading the mp5, idk if its a bug but who knows, while you reloading you insert the magazine but miss the insertion one time(hits the side of it) and successfully incest it a second time, and from times it manages to reload successfully in one insertion
Hard to believe this game was released in 2006. The animations, for the most part, are very detailed and consistent, featuring firemode switching animations and also full magazines with actual rounds on them. Considering these details are often thrown under the rug even when we talk about modern shooters, this game has aged pretty well. In the age of remasters, this one could be given some love once again.
I wouldn't say details like this have been thrown under the rug, since they have been appearing more in triple A titles, and arguably done much better there.
