Come on assignment with me as I photograph the staff of a small home builder and take black and white portraits of them. I use a variety of cameras to capture them in their natural surroundings.
This video was produced by my good friend Randy Risling.

YES!!! Another fan of Delta 3200!!! That seems to make two of us... on the planet!!! (raise your hands folks if you also dig Ilford 3200)Love the way that film renders a scene when matched with vintage glass.

Each Portrait very individual! Well done! The Medium format allows for lovely results! Rollie or Hassie all the same!

So good to see you again Todd! I appreciate how you didn’t “cookie cutter” the subjects. Each person and setting unique, which I’m sure took more time and effort, but nicely done.

It's truly enjoyable to see an artist expressing themselves at their highest level. Just the act of witnessing the use and understanding of the camera, the light meter, and film, coupled with the need to manage poses and compositions, is truly gratifying. Being able to comprehend and visualize an image without relying on the camera's screen makes everything more personalized and demands a great deal of knowledge, practice, and experience. Not to mention the minimal margin for error when deciding to press the shutter button. How many of the new photographers can truly grasp this way of capturing images? Today, the camera does almost everything for the photographer, and yet, many still struggle to achieve a successful final product. Excellent video.

Wonderful, Todd. I love your manner as well as your talents. Makes me excited in that I just got a "new" 500CM and have only exercised it with color, but I love B&W. Of course the home was an amazing canvas for the work, so that helps, but there are lots of great subjects out there. Keep doing more videos! (I especially loved the frozen Canadian landscapes previously posted!) Thanks! (Oh, and part of the reason for the 500CM was combining it with the 907X - wonderful stuff!)

Beautiful portraits! The one in the mirror was really cool! I'm gonna get some Delta 3200 and play around with it and some portraits. I bought Jesse Dittmar's portrait book where he uses that film and it really has a nice look about it.

Thanks. Yes it's lovely film, I did bracket my exposure though, and probably shot that closer to 2000 iso. It cleans up and not as much grain as I thought there would be.

I have some difficulties understanding this video. One see a digital Hasselblad hanging on the photographers shoulder while shooting film Comments say that with film the photographer should be rid of the compUter work, but modern film photography goes trough the same computer workflow as soon as the film is developed, with scanning, digital processing etc... IMO shooting film gives a specific and special flair to photos depending on the type of film and processing that can only be badly emulated with digital film profiles on a digital file.
@toddkorolphoto
@toddkorolphoto 10 месяцев назад
Yes I see your point. I should have explained better about the process of shooting film so you don’t interrupt the flow of the portrait setting looking at the back of the screen. Also, actual prints will be made for the client. Making the film shots into digital files is for the RU-vid viewer.
