What that bear did was called "bluster." Bears do this as a way of communication to other creatures that they're scared of. They don't want to be bothered, and the bear was telling you he didn't want to be bothered. It's his way of saying, "Leave me alone. You're too close to me." Black bears do not attack after doing this.
Troy Schroeder that’s true! We see them all the time at our vacation cabin in the mountains in upstate Pennsylvania. They are fun to watch and harmless!
@@bartmadness830 Harmless? In Pinetop, Arizona a few years ago, a woman surprised a black bear late at night when she was taking trash out to a dumpster, and a black bear attacked her--she died from her injuries. Do they attack often? No. Harmless? Hardly.
I was bluff charged by a black bear in the minaret falls campground near devil's postpile. I was standing near my car and got in faster than you can say "Jack Robinson".
Exactly. His yawning actually indicates something too.. These are wild animals. Nobody can assume that a bear is not going to attack them just because it's black beer. How do you know. Maybe he's injured or something. Maybe there are babies nearby. **Know how to protect and defend yourself in case the bear turns aggressive. Aggressive charges are very dangerous. Your attitude is exactly the problem in places like yellowstone. People think the animals are cute, and maybe they're kind of tame. And then they get gored or even killed.
@Marcia Lussier ...orrrrr maybe they just think bears are cute? You don't need to get on your soap box every time someone comments they like bears. Most of us DO know better.
I think we share the same bear! i've tried scaring him off a few times.. its like he doesn't care.. thats crazy how he gave you that warning.. over here he just kinda stands around.. even when banging pots and pans.

He also was yawning. And other sign of stress.
When a bear confronts you like this you must assert your dominance. Look it in its eyes, throw your hands up, make fast movements, don’t back up stand your ground. It will respect your authority and submit

@@marcialussier2467 if they appear to yawn or click their teeth it’s an indication of a bear that’s escaped captivity. It’s been trained and is most likely performing for treats. Not rewarding what it perceives as good behavior will likely end up in an attack. Talk to the bear and tell it how good it did. If you have some food offer it a treat, if not scratch the bear behind its ears while petting him

So obviously your opinion conflicts with their experts. Escape from captivity? What the hell are you talking about? So yeah, this article talks about yawning and clicking their teeth and huffing as a warning. What is with your whole gigantic elaborate comment? Please quote things from articles, not your opinion.
Do NOT look into a bears eyes, that's a threat. Talk calmly and slowly back away. Only stand tall and make loud noises if the bear is too close. Bear spray works great, never run ever.
Note what this article says. Why does everybody act like there's some kind of an expert, and make comments such as, a bear does this a bear doesn't do that blah blah blah. Lolololol! We get lots of black bear in Pennsylvania and they are harmless. Just don’t put out any bird seed feeders and they don’t come around. Beautiful animals!👍
@@marcialussier2467 no kidding like really. People that know nothing about bears have no idea. A black bear ( so cute and cuddly) if they attalk you most likely will start eating you alive. If someone is being attacked and you try to run it off they can, and have gone into a killing frenzy and attalk anything that moves. A grizzly may rip you up and move on. Black bears generally eat you alive. Polar bears are an all together different story.
@@VeneficaDelirium Unfortunately many people don’t know it. Bluff charges sometimes gets bears killed by ignorant people because they think the bear is about to attack them.

@@marcialussier2467 i was like 15 when i wrote this random internet person, i lived in the woods my whole life. Encountered black bears more times then i can recall. So relax there big shooter
Yeah he’s a fed bear, garbage can Larry the fat one. Just yell at him, he might go away, probably not he’s fed and expecting you to feed him. Heck, maybe you were the one feeding him. Either way he won’t hurt you. He’s like an annoying squirrel that tears stuff apart in your yard because he’s human fed, that’s why we put our garbage out thirty minutes before pickup. When you live with as many beats as I do, we know to keep them wild, or you get spoiled fat pig destructive bears. I just had a mom and two cubs come in my deck an hour ago, I’m deep in the woods though, I just yelled at them and they haven’t been back, yet.
It's called a 12 gauge shotgun and you can pick one up at any Wal-Mart for about $200.00 with a box of buckshot or slugs. Bear spray is good too, but a shotgun works best if attacked.
@@Jakethatguy221 You take your chances explaining yourself to a bear, I'll use common sense and lethal force if attacked. Not bluffed but attacked. @@paddlefar9175 You sound, triggered, a real trait of insecurity and ignorance from your part. I never killed an animal, but I've had bears and pumas kill big prey in my back yard and a shotgun levels the playing field against jaws and claws. When it comes to life and death, I don't play nice with spray. I love animals, but wouldn't hesitate putting one down if it can kill me, and tries. When a predator attacks, it's usually over in 2 or 3 seconds, good luck with that spray.
Not sure if you knew from the 50 other commentators but that’s called a bluff charge and it’s completely harmless. They never attack afterwards and at that point they’re ready to be pet and coddled.
