As a blue belt I seem to be having a lot of trouble with grips when rolling with higher belts. Great idea for a video would be covering taking grips, different kinds of grips, and probably most importantly breaking unwanted grips

also it could be highlighted in the rolling commentary too, like at the beginning of the vid when you attempt the sweep, even though he denied it by basing with his head I'm sure your grip round his wrist was to prevent him from posting with his hand to avoid the sweep right?

One of my training goals of late has been to be as relaxed as possible and using less energy in my rolls and embodying the path of least resistance as my mindset. A byproduct of this has been not making tapping people or getting submissions a priority, but rather just accepting whatever happens in the roll. It's produced a lot of beneficial results and interesting insights for me. It's also made my submissions a lot more technical and less forced with strength. Great video as always.

This is the difference between an amateur and professional. The differences are unknown to us regular folk, but small differences really make a difference. One time while living in Japan, I saw the all japan purple belt (3 years bjj but full time training for 2 years or s) have his way with amateur recreational black belts with 10-15 yrs experience but not training full time. There are many many levels to this as we know. Super fun to watch. Thanks for doing this!
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu 2 года назад
That is very true and something many don't realize. Even bluebelt world champions would best up most recreational - average blackbelts. I did the same as a high level blue.

Another gem. I find your narrated rolls to be the most educational but all your stuff is great! Since you asked, I'm currently preparing for my first competition early next year (white belt). Suggestions for future videos that I believe would help many of us: (1) narrated fight sim roll covering basic strategies and tactics you employ there - I keep struggling at fight sim days because it's such a different game when you can get hit. (2) How to keep the back once you take it - I get to the back no problem on many opponents, but they escape almost all the time. Thanks and please keep up the great work!

Love that Ezekiel from the back! I’m gonna have to play around with that. My current goals in jiu jitsu as a brown belt are to work on using transitional jiu jitsu to progress positional advantages. For example finding submission opportunities by swapping between dominant positions or even just changing sides in knee on belly. It’s amazing how much opens up when you move around instead of just mindlessly grinding out an advantageous position.
@Rombodamus

The arm staple sequence to far side armbar was gorgeous. They way you use your opponent reactions as a stepping stone to improve your positions really give us an insight into how higher level BJJ looks like. Currently a fresh blue and trying to work on linking my passes and submissions together now. Sometimes I struggle with seeing the opportunities and its hard to do so during the roll. Gym is not very comfortable with allowing us to record our rolls so it is a little hard to review my rolls after class too. Keep up the good content! Loving these stuff.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu 2 года назад
I have such a reactionary game. I always take what my opponent gives me. It works out good for RU-vid channel as I like to think it's a pretty entertaining style 🙂 It'll come with time. The key is to always experiment. Try new things always and you'll build up that library of what to do when's.

Maybe you can show the exact way (movement/technique) on how to break collar grips, sleeve grips etc. Like the exact way you break each grip. Also for grip prevention. I Just recently realised I have to anticipate the collar tie when they begin reaching my head , so that im fast enough to prevent the collar tie by grabbing the wrist of the opponent. Simple, but something I didnt get taucht.

Really good roll mate! It's fun to have both Black Belts rolling so we can see how they counter each other, double the ammount of knowledge! My goals with BJJ is actually pretty vague, but overrall, I'm really aiming to get to a point of knowledge where I can defend myself and get tapped less, and actually sweep more so I can control my opponent decently. I don't really care about submissions as much as other people do, though they're fun to do of course!

I love the kimura for control. My grips are not as strong as they used to be as I got older so using 2 on 1 grips and kimura grips work great. Great video !

Hey Jordan, I’m new to BJJ and I just started 4 weeks ago to train in a local gym. I’m 32 old and I feel my body is stiff as I never really done a lot of stretching. Would love to see a video on good warmup and stretching techniques!

Bro i love your channel, could you do more mma specific grappling videos? Escapes, opening up submissions with strikes, how to stand up, etc Thanks!

Awesome video! I’m brand new 2-3 months into bjj, I would like to see a video on which positions are in control or which positions you should urgently avoid/escape. My coach always tells me to breathe but as I’m new I have a hard time knowing which positions I have good control and can take a deep breath or just hold for a moment, or when i’m moments from disaster and need to escape/transition ASAP. I hope this makes sense! Might be a bit boring for your experienced viewers but I find this isn’t something that’s explained, you just kind of find out through trial and error and rolling. Thanks for your videos they are great. See you in Australia one day 😄👍

Personal goal right now is working on grips/dominant position during transitions. Blue belt. Thanks again for all your work on the videos! 👊

I'm a white belt that started 10 months ago, i feel i am not far from the blue belt (training 5 times a week at least since 6 months now), but my main goal is to win gold in the next competitions i have (5 december Paris, 29 Jan Dubai). thanks for the awesome content !

My next goal in my Jiu jitsu journey is to work on guard & have a strong sweep I can consistently hit. Btw I love the kimura trap, it works so well for me. Looking forward to that video!!!!!!

Making opportunities in transitions is something I’ve always been fascinated by that upper belts can do. Having steps ahead in a moments notice does so much in a roll.

My old coach used to love to say "submission from transition", basically that during the transition was your best chance to set yourself up for the sub

Great way to put it, might be worth adding in the idea of transitioning between multiple submissions too. That's something I see high level black belts pull off with incredible timing and precision.
