NEW YEAR’S DAY - What are you really celebrating this day? You are honoring the Roman God Janus who was their god of new beginnings and transitions. (Daniel 7:25; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Colossians 2:8). Did you know that the a new year really begins in the spring and not in the dead of winter? Watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JL6GQuHsszM.html

It's a Meso marathon today. Thank you for giving us history behind this dish. I'm Cherokee and Chippewa, mom always made black eyed peas for New Year. She used hog jowls as well as other smoked meats. Again, have a blessed day lovely lady. Your dish looks mouth watering btw.

+Rebecca “reb” Hey Reb, Cherokee and Chippewa, wow? Very happy to make your acquaintance. Yes, I do try to mimic the food that our parents and grand parents made for us. It is just so comforting. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. Many blessings.

Meso happy new year. I didn't know about the background of the black eyed peas and the corn bread etc. I loved this video because you went into depth with the reasoning behind why you use this tradition. Looks wonderful. Have a fantastic weekend my friend.

+FitAnge S FitAnge, yes I thought the history was important to hear and I used the hog jowl for the purpose of making this video. But the hog jowl is much more greasy/fatty than smoked turkey, smoked neck-bones and even ham-hocks and should be used sparingly. I'm glad you enjoyed watching this video. Thank you for commenting on it. Blessings!

+NYCCHOCOLATE7777 Awwww ... NYCC thanks so much for your feedback. It's what lets me know how to make my channel better. BTW, is the volume of the music better? I think a lot is determined by what device you're listening on. Small devices (phones) seem louder, I am told. I am considering dropping the music altogether since many of my viewers watch on their cell phones. Thanks doll.

+Meso Making It Ahhh I use ham-hocks as my mom used to ....so glad to know its not as greasy :).....Just if I could get my kids to eat these........I used also the ham bone after finishing the ham...and placed it in my frozen green beans to cook and my kids eyes were so wide open they were like OMg THIS IS GOOD . I just laughed. Well I am convinced I will do this from now on :) :)

Hi Gayle, this is a down south traditional New Year's recipe. But to be honest I don't like jowls or use them at all. Just made this video to show the way that it used to be done. The meat is so greasy but it does gives a strong pork flavor. I wouldn't go out to buy them ..... smoked turkey or even smoked pork is just as good or better. Thanks for watching and be blessed

I love your vids. You explain everything very well. I Like the camera shots of store packaged meats and other ingredients with pricing. Much of those delicacies aren't available waaaay up 'noth. Up here, every part of the pig that's good, they grind it and put it in dog food. These Yankys only eat butterfly loin chops.
