I just purchased one lonely tiger eye rudbeckia at an end of season sale for $1.00 Also purchased several yellow coneflowers and one purple one. Can't wait to get my soil amended so I can plant them!Your video helped me a lot.I now know that the Black eyed susans will wander.Nice to know.Thanks.
I will plant anything that reduces weed growth. This year I planted black eye susans next to some well established autumn joy. Didn't know to cut them back after they bloom. Will do that today. I am Zone 7. One question: my daylillies don't bloom well. I move them this year because the orginal spot was too dry. In the new spot there is much more green and they look much stronger but the blooms were sporatic. Maybe they are getting used to the new spot.
ive tried a few rudbeckias now, of these lower growing types that are typically 2-3 foot high, youve got to try fulgida var fulgida. its not upright like goldstrum but has softer wiry stems that can interweave and can be planted amongst other plants rather than a large clump. ive also found they prefer a bit of shade, even full shade. only my long established plants tolerate sun and dryness all day.
My black eyed susans were planted back in early april, but now there are brown stalks, weak blooms, and green yellowish flowers. They get a lot of sun. I try to water them every other day with a large amount of water but they still look pretty bad. What could I be doing wrong?
I planted several Goldsturm seeds last year. I also bought one at a nursery last year & it is flowering. Seed grown ones look identical to the store bought one albeit a little smaller. BUT the seed grown ones don't have flower stalks yet. Will the seed grown ones flower this year or will I have to wait until next summer? Also, will cutting them back to the ground in fall/late winter make them fuller & bushier plants that will produce more flowers? I'm in zone 8b - coastal SC. Great video, too!
I planted 2 containers in 2 different half barrels 2 years ago...One (thankfully) in each barrel came back and had tons of flowers...But, the other ones (again in both barrels) only gave Lots and Lots of just big green leaves....You're thoughts on this? Do I replant with a new container Susan next year to replace the big green leaves or might they develop and flower next year?
