Black Grimoire Math for Nerds 

I've played a few games with black grimoire and so far I've either: -Consumed it when I'm level 5 with only a couple charges because my game was bad and a teamfight was starting and I needed rock (This feels bad in the moment but when I dropped rock on the enemy team and we got a few kills it felt better) -Consumed it around level 7-8 with 8-9 charges and jumped straight to 10 (This feels very good) I think just using it in the 12-15 minute range to gain 2-3 levels is the play. You can use the power you gain from the extra levels for tempo to win more fights.

now, what about the Spirit Breaker passive? If Warlock has the lowest XP and uses his Grimoire, does he also get +50% XP from the Grimoire? That would be additional 125 XP per charge.

Another good one is using it around the 15 min mark to get your shard+lvl 12 (since imp dmg scales with ulty) and suddenly you and your imps do an enormous amount of damage at that midgame timing

From a Lore standpoint, Demnok would use his Black Grimoire just before attacking Roshan. It is written: "Eventually, his investigations for lost texts have often triggered the wrath of protector entities, compelling him to master sorcery in order to counter any attempts on his life while he continues his research." Gaben has a way of offering a simplistic mathematical or common-sense answer that for some obscure reason turns out to be Dead Wrong. I might consider consuming the tome if I think the +strength from leveling up will help me barely survive a damage-over-time, the same way we all eat a Tango and pray when there's a Venomancer or a Witch Doctor debuff ticking.

For my simple brain i just do this: If at min 7 you really need your ult to win a big team fight then pop the books. this essentially just works similarly to exp tome like before. if your team just chilling and farm kinda afk then just hold it a bit, if you pop the book at late game it didn't bring any benefits IMO since the required lvls and lvls spike is already surpassed after mid game especially for warlock. In a nutshell, just look the powerspike of your team and your heroes and pop that stuff at that moment in time. if your team want to smoke at 7+ min to a big fight then just pop that and pick your ult and pray that the smoke is work out well. or safe your core from stupid shit like they always do then it's still good time at early mid game to pop that stuff. But at the end of the day, you want to get your ult asap, so just pop that at the right time and surprize the enemy and get some advantage from those moves. ez clap.

Been playing a lot of warlock a lot. To me it seems like the fascet depends on your other heroes. If you have a jug, his healing ward gives bonus regen which works well. Legion can work, stuff like that. Treant maybe Any game without such a hero i get the grimoire, and so far I have found the most success using it to get an early lvl 6. If you can get it before the enemy carry, there’s virtually nothing stopping you from tping to the offlane and just taking their tower. Its real hard for any lvl 4/5 heroes to stop golem at that point in the game. That just opens the map and usually forces rotations. Its just real good.

in other patches i would say that its not worth it, but ive had matches with like 40 kills at min 20

As a Warlock spammer playing exclusively with Grimoire (the other facet is dogshit) what I can say is: never use the grimoare before level 6, but also not point in holding on to it past level 12. What I use it for is to be able to get to level 10 or 12, while having the shard. With shard and those few extra levels you get such a big powerspike that you can do anything that's needed in the game: you can split-push with bonds and upheaval, you can teamfight with bonds and upheaval, you can jungle with bonds and upheaval. As you noticed, no points in Healing until you have nothing else to put points in. Warlock is incredibly busted in Pubs, only concerted actions by the other team can beat him and that requires Divine/Immortal level play or a great team against you.

i feel like theres a case to pop it early get ur 6 early and roam mid with ur ult. Very little people would be expecting the support warlock to walk mid early with ult and ruin their entire lane. It might not be as "game winning" as popping it and winning an important teamfight late game but it would set up ur midlaner to snowball effectively

Imo use it before 15 always, and depending how hard you are losing use it sooner. If you lose all 3 lanes and the other team are stomping i doubt you will be getting many kills or assists unless you REALLY coordinate, which lets be honest is very rare in dota lmao

upheavel is probably the best ability of warlock, and the talents + shard make it bonkers, so for me the timings are not that much the ultimate as it is the talents, or eventually just finishing the healing spell if you are raiding up for a major push

I think early game gaining 3 charges if possible allows for fast snowball from 5 to 6. You can surprise gank other lanes as they aren’t expecting you suddenly have ult.

Naga shard and regen rune give Champion of Gorroth over 300 dps a piece, but the most realistic is Jug ward. I was able to get upto like 1500 dps with Sny, Locket, Heart, Io, Alchy, Naga, Jug, etc, but that's a Turbo meme strat where mid Lock is better anyways.

For me personally I tend to use the grimoire around where I can realistically get level 12 with it, as a big powerspike with ult. If I recently used ult and think I can get to 12 with using grimoire to get 12, I'll delay it further until ult is off CD again to try to maximize further on xp gained (and then obviously use it before using ult again to get it to rank 2).

Since I play at herald, all my games are 60+ minutes. So I use fist one and have fun with 6 hearts.

Damn spirit breaker being on the team would totally change the math on this. You’re gonna have more kill with SB in the game, too. I wonder how that shakes things up with the timings. Quick update taking SB innate into account?

In lower ranks I can see the book getting a lot of charges before minute 20. Fighting in 3k mmr and less just seems to be the thing to do I guess. Fighting but not getting anything for it. So at minute say 25-30, warlock is lvl 20 but has 30+ kill participation. That could be huge.

Played a game with champion of goroth. No one was pushing lanes so even as a 5 xp/gp was easy to come by (finished the game with 350cs) but I itemized heart over aghs as it was only another 800 gold. Not sure what the dps difference is to aghs but the enemy team did not expect the sheer amount of damage that came out

as someone who doesn't play a lot of warlock, the initial impression of the facets were "Champion" well i think i try to go refresher most games anyways and that'd help, maybe Kaya & Sange? where as Grimoire is daunting in that i don't play warlock enough to recognize when we'll get kills unless mid ganks. i wonder what the facet choice/win-rate break down is among the different ranks

It's a bad win more item. Losing the game? No charges, it doesn't help you. Winning the game? Why am I going to use this thing when next teamfight I'll get another 5 charges. The more charges you can get the less you need it. Instead of giving you a tool you can use to outplay opponents, ahead or behind, you just get a flat bonus for doing things that already win you the game.

As slow farmer and active teamfight, Grimoire is the best. 18 assists are easier to get.

This is useful, it allows you to snowball when you are doing fine. Gris-Gris instead is mega trash. Alchemist gets 250 gold from the very beginning and Doctor gets 200 gold after 8 minutes or so. And I still think that 250 gold facet for Alchemist is trash, but Gris-Gris is one of the worst innates/facets added to the game.

My idea for the grimoire is to use it for my lvl 25. The way I see it, I will have a lot of assists because of the spells eg. fatal bonds. And in my last 10 games on worlock, I've used it at an average of 15 charges. Think of it like a poor man's midas.

Okay in your next video I would like you to watch this game and tell me how the matchmaking isn't fixed. Games like this are common to about 50% of my games. I wasn't flawless, however my team was significantly worse than the enemy team. I would say that 2 of them are far below there rank in skill level. And this is common place. I do believe that ranks are false and borderline meaningless, not saying for anyone above me. I'm saying I have definitely played with better Heralds than players in this game.
