The painting in front of him is not "The Lament of Icarus". That painting is in the room where Jungkook hangs on a swing at 2:23 . The painting in front of Taehyung is "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" which appears many times during the mv and also on the Japanese ver of bst. The entire album that this song is from is based on the book Demian: The Story of a Youth by Hermann Hesse. That part where rap mon was talking is from the book. Long story short, the book is about a boy who realizes the difference between two worlds, good and evil. And about his relationship with friend Damien, and his slight obsession with Damien's mother. But he only meets Damien's mother at the end of the story. It's about his battle with good and evil, and him realizing that in the end it didn't matter and that life is all about living according to your instincts and desires. It's a really good book, I recommend you read it.
RELATIONSHIP ESTABLISHMENTS & JIN WITH THE PAINTING This may seem like a really minor detail and super irrelevant (“Ahh!! You’re reading too much into it!!”) but after watching the video several times you will see that this makes a connection later on. The video opens with everyone walking into the museum together, but everyone is paired up: J-Hope with V, Suga with Jimin, Rapmon with Jungkook. This is even exemplified in the Wings concept photoshoots. There are 7 members in BTS so the odd one out is Jin, who is seen walking away from everyone and towards a painting. Jin looks at the painting, titled The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel. We know that the angels of heaven fell because of direct rebellion against God by siding with Lucifer, who corrupted the angels by sinful temptations. This is a foreshadowing of the future events to come. Jin is the center focus of the music video and is the key symbol of tempted youth (which is ironic because he’s the oldest in BTS!) JUNGKOOK & RAP MONSTER: STORY OF ICARUS AND DAEDALUS The next painting is seen behind Jungkook, who is dangling from a swing. It is The Lament of Icarus by Herbert James Draper. The story of Icarus is marked by its famous representation of a naïve boy whose innocent curiosity is his fatal flaw. He is given a pair of wax-held wings by his father Daedalus (an inventor/scientist) to fly, but he ignores his father’s warning to stay away from the Sun. He ultimately flies too close to the Sun and the wax holding his wings together melts, destroying his wings and leading to Icarus falling into the ocean below and drowning. Rap Monster is the one who melts the candle from which Jungkook licks the melted wax from. In the myth, although it is Icarus’ own ignorance that leads to his death, it is his father Daedalus who gives him the option of flying in the first place. So Rapmon would represent Daedaelus and Jungkook can be interpreted as Icarus. Remember, at the beginning Rapmon is shown reading something to Jungkook, which would play into the Daedalus/Icarus relationship where the former educates and guides the latter. Rapmon is also the leader and Jungkook the maknae, which makes the relationship work. The way Jungkook is positioned on the swing-set looks like he is falling (both physically and symbolically). The melting candle and him licking the wax can be tied to the myth of Icarus, who falls because of the melted wax on his wings. When he is licking the wax he is actually off the swing, which could symbolize his fall. Jungkook “falls” because he has consumed the melted candle wax, which represents temptation. bonus: this is from a later scene that doesn’t really have any significance to this analysis except the fact that it shows Jungkook and Rapmon together again. J-HOPE & MICHELANGELO’S PIETA Next, we see J-Hope in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion and removal from the cross. If you’ve listened to the Wings album you know that J-Hope’s solo song is titled “Mama” and is about his mom (there are also ties here to Demian with correlations to the character of Frau Eva, Demian’s mother in the novel. But like I said before I didn’t read Demian so you’ll have to refer to the previous replies for clarifications there). This is yet another Biblical reference in the music video. BTS, THE APPLE, AND JIN HEARING SOMETHINg Later on, all of the members are seen gathering at a table in what reminds me of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci (The Last Supper tells the story of Jesus Christ and the distress amongst his Twelve Disciples after it was announced one of them would betray him). Anyways, they’re seen all with a single apple on their plate. The apple is a famous symbol of sin in the biblical story of Adam and Eve where Eve eats the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. And the scenery of the set does look like some sort of garden. In the last of the three photos above, you can see that the boys are all raising their cups to pledge something, but what are they pledging to? Given that the apple is on their plate and they’re ready to eat, it is hinted that they’re all ready to commit to the sins of adulthood together by eating the apple together. Just as Jin is about to raise his cup/pledge it seems as if he heard something, like a voice calling to him. At this point we are not really sure what it means but it adds on to the idea of Jin falling to temptation because whatever it is that called to him has captured his attention. J-HOPE & V: THE ARROW So after some research, I came across this verse from Psalm 21:12 of the Bible: “For You will make them turn their back; You will aim with Your bowstrings at their faces.” I thought this was pretty interesting in relations to the video. I don’t know if BTS/production team went as far as basing this entire scene from this verse, but the connection is pretty clear. J-Hope shoots an arrow at V, which lands at his face and splatters the colored liquid everywhere (“You will aim with Your bowstrings at their faces”) I will discuss the other part of the verse (“For You will make them turn their back”) in a bit to maintain things in a chronological order. JIMIN & SUGA: BLINDFOLD AND THE APPLE Here we see more of the relationship between Jimin and Suga. Again, the apple is used as a symbol of sin and I have some photos from the Wings photoshoot to illustrate this further (bonus: Jimin’s solo track “Lie” is also heavily influenced by the Adam and Eve story). Suga has a blindfold, seemingly for Jimin. This will be discussed later. V FALLING & LANDSCAPE WITH THE FALL OF ICARUS Here is where things start to get really interesting. We have V sitting on the ledge of a balcony (where he was seen in the beginning sitting at and looking up and down) and he looks back at you, cracks a mischievous grin, and jumps willingly. And in front of him is a big painting: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, also by Bruegel. The painting shows a spectacular scenery of the sea, but when you look closely, you can see that there are a pair of legs struggling in the sea on the bottom righthand corner. That’s supposed to be Icarus after he falls. So we have this reoccurring motif of Icarus. We saw his death earlier and now we are witnessing his fall. Since I already interpreted Jungkook as Icarus, I won’t also analyze V as Icarus. Just keep in mind that V willfully falling, even enjoying it, is a very important factor in the story of BST. BLINDFOLDED JIMIN WITH JUNGKOOK & FEATHERS So now we see Suga blindfolding Jimin and he stumbles around the room. Since the apple is nowhere in sight we can assume that Jimin has eaten it, and after he ate it, he’s “lost his way” (wink wink reference) and has fallen into temptation. And I also have another photo of Jungkook floating without the swing (the swing = youth; his youth is also gone) now, and he’s got falling feathers all around him, adding to the idea that he represents Icarus. JIN & THE BALLOON - GIVES INTO THE TEMPTATIONS Throughout this video Jin has looked pretty conflicted; if you recall the beginning when he’s looking at the painting, he’s got a focused look that’s like “wow this is kind of cool??!” as well as confused. Like he doesn’t really know why he’s drawn to it but he is. And remember when he was at the dinner table with everyone but he gets distracted by something? My interpretation is that Jin is conflicted between wanting to stay blissful to the sweetness of youth, but he keeps getting distracted and enticed by “sinful callings.” This struggle is resolved with this scene of Jin and his balloon. The balloon represents his innocent youth; he’s quite literally holding on to it. He’s not sure if he wants to let go. Then, later on, during the cut with Rap Monster’s narration, we see that Jin has finally let go of the balloon. The balloon is already out of frame when he reaches up towards it, possibly regretting his choice. Remember, everyone else has already given in to the different forms of enticement (Jimin with the apple, V with falling, Jungkook with the wax, etc.) Jin is the last one to fall. FINALE: JIN & V - V AS THE FALLEN ANGEL WHO SEDUCES JIN, THE KISS Suga plays the organ and it is seen that all the boys in their respective pairs exit the museum, except Jin has stayed behind and V has noticed. Jin seems to be looking at/for something, and V shows up with yet another playful look and covers his eyes. When V removes his hands and Jin opens his eyes, a mysterious statue with large, black wings has appeared and looks like it’s ready to take off. So in the end, V, who’s been kind of elusive in the story, is revealed to have scars where wings are supposed to be. I believe this statue is V. The way the scenes cut support
Also Daedaelus told Icarus to not fly to low near the ocean or the wings will get heavy with water and he will fall. Not to fly to high near the sun or the wax will melt loosing the feathers and he will fall.

The video is based on a story called Demian. Which talks about a lot of allegories relating to Fallen Angels. They even reference a demon in it. I have not read the book but I would like to. The song itself is about temptation. Hence all the seductive scenes and very alluring atmosphere.
sweetmiss23 speaking of fallen angels, and Abraxas, I remembered when BTS reacted to their own music video, RM said "as expected of Abraxas" or something like that, and it was when Jin was looking at the mirror which might just imply that Jin was Abraxas (which is God and the embodiment of both good and evil in some books) all along and this was him watching his angels fall into chaos and sin. And him kissing the winged statue didn't mean that he kissed the devil and gave up to temptations, he kissed his Black winges angel which is the angel of death, sacrificing himself so that his angels can be saved, but they were already too corrupted that V (or the devil) already won. I was hoping that I can get a copy of it because it is sure became interesting for me because of BTS 😂 but damn this literature (Demian) is really old that it can only be accessed on libraries on other countries I forgot what country though. Basically, J-jope Suga are the angels to help Jin to advoid him into darkness, Rap Mon Jimin V and Jungkook are the ones who make Jin trap in his heart, (they are like kind of dark angels?) There is symbolism all throughout this video that ties into this and past MV theories. At the beginning, Jin (pink hair) is staring at the painting Rebellion of the Fallen Angels. Jimin (gray hair) and Suga (black hair) are in front of Venus, Rapmon is reading to Jungkook (brown hair) from the book Damien and J-Hope (red hair) and V (blond hair) are looking at a madonna (I think). The balcony scene, V jumps into the painting of The Fall of Icarus while Suga and Jimin exchange "sins"...blindfold, ignoring the restrictions of society and/or your morals and the apple for temptation. RM said the MV was about Damien, but also about temptation. V is the fallen angel and Jin cracks at the end because he gave in to desire and temptation, he lost his pure façade. The saying on the wall is from Nietzsche, it says " You cannot give birth to a star without having chaos within." There are tons of theories and ARMY have been turned into freaking literary detectives by BTS. You stay in this fandom long enough, you'll eventually see the theory that BTS has been dropping hints of future projects from the very beginning, like "Stigma" appearing in the No More Dreams MV. This and several videos in which RapMon narrates parts/and the video's are loosely based on a book called "Demian" by Herman Hesse. In the book, the lead character Sinclair goes through a journey of what is reality and what is illusion...a spiritual growth so to speak. In Blood, Sweat, & Tears Jin (the blonde always lagging behind) is Sinclair trying to overcome illusion and temptation. V (the one covering Jin's eyes and with the burnt wings) is trying to stop Jin from see'ing reality. At the end of the video when Jin's face cracked, that was symbolism of the illusion being shattered. Some Army's have made videos of really in depth interpretations but this is just my really brief summary. PEACE
hmmm, in my opinion V is and I can't emphasize enough a vague interpretation of Kromer, Abraxius and Pistorius. A mixture of those that enjoy walking on the slightly darker side of life. Demian was more of a guide character, He understood that life in general is both sides: Light and Dark... Cain and Abel.

OH and one more thing(IM SO EXCITED I FEEL OUT OF CONTROL) *How to distinguish the members! by voice/role* Rapmon- you probably know him already, rapper, leader, cool and talented,,, he looks tough but is actually a huge cinnamon roll who needs to be protected V- The dude with his wings torn off. you can recognise him by voice; it’s very rich and thick, and he also has a really wide vocal range. He was the one who did the first ahhh-hhh-hhh-hh Jungkook- he gets a lot of lines and his voice is kinda breathy, ethereal. His eyes are like deer’s eyes xD Jin- The statue kissing dude! His vocals are very emotional, almost a little nasal but not that much, so he sings the emotional lines of the song. He doesn’t get many lines tho :( Jimin- The blind folded dude and the dude in the blue jacket looking sexy af. He majored in dancing so he’s. REALLY, really good at that with very powerful performances. OH AND HE’S THE SHORTEST XD. I definitely think Jimin is a visual, and, I guess his eyes are the longest in the group, almost in parallel lines. Jhope- also a rapper and dancer. His rapping is also very powerful but kinda more hyped than Suga’s since he makes his voice go up and down(ie in Not Today) Suga- Plays piano, looks kinda sleepy, rapper, but his voice is deep and rough, he’s savage AF with his rapping, just listen to his song Agust d Idk if this’ll help, and I’m not trying to summarise the boys and melt them down to only their looks so I hope nothing was too offensive since I tried my best not to be, ahhh- tbh I think once you get in the loop getting to know their vocals it gets easier to tell them apart

The video concept is based on "Demian" by Hermann Hesse, and the english that Rap Monster speaks in the red scene is a direct quote from the book. I kinda buy into this theory as well - especially with the part with V jumping off the balcony into the painting - as that painting is the painting "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus".
all bts videos have a story line and everything is tied together. even the smallest details like a hand gesture, the colors or the direction they look in has a lot of meaning. that being said, we have been struggling to figure out the story lines for years now and we still have no idea whats going on. there are millions of theories out there.
That part of Jin kissing the statue, you kinda look confused lol. So, basically the story behind this song were pretty much taken from a novel called "Demian". If you want, you can check it out or read the novel LOL jokes. But the whole loneliness thingy, the angel, broken wings etc were from that novel. But, it's pretty cool how they did that, really smart. BTS's songs have very deep meanings and story behind it - they either show it in their MV's or through the lyrics of their songs.
Yo thanks to you pausing the video and asking what all the stuff with Jin and the angel wing meant, I peeped the German writing at the top of the screen (something I never peeped before) and I translated it to: one must still have chaos within themselves to be able to (or in order to) create a dancing star ....don't know what this means but it's a breakthrough for ARMYs to figure this MV out (we've been trying to for the longest)

It’s related to the book “Damien”. I didn’t read it though. According to those who did the kiss has something to do with acceptance of adulthood. BTS MVs have deep meanings and a lot of symbolisms since they are known to be artists who tackles sensitive issues like depression, addiction, suicide, loss of innocence and bullying that young ppl are going through. This specific MV tackles about the good and evil. This is something artists have to go though dealing with fame, temptation, greed and loss of innocence. The guy who kissed the statue is the main character of the story who has to choose between ignorance or knowledge of the othet side (the evil) all the time he feels like he was missing something that something is off. He was in a dilemma. The guy who has his wings were ripped of was inspired by the Fall of Icarus. The painting you mentioned, that was where Icarus fell because of flying to close to the sun. There are a lot to say but this is going to be a novel so.... Yeah.

They aren't saying money (though i totally thought the same thing when i first heard the song lol), they're saying "wonhae manhi manhi" which is them saying "i want you a lot". A lot of the lyrics tie into like, well, take all of my blood sweat, and tears, just take everything. That kind of thing, you know? And lastly! I was thinking you should totally react to BTS's Cypher series. Apparently some comments got thrown at BTS that since the rappers (Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope) were in a guy group, that they weren't REAL rappers. And since then on a couple albums they've done this series called Cypher, which is just the rappers and they are LIT. My personal favorites and the ones I think you should definitely check out are Cypher 3 and Cypher 4. They go hard as fuck in those. Now there aren't music videos for these songs, but there are plenty of live performances and they go even harder live. Hope this was helpful!
