@MarkSzorady another classic breakdown of traditional wet shaving products. That mentholated aftershave splash in a flask looks awesome. I so would get that aftershave splash.
Steven, the razor is a different approach form DEs for sure.:) I've not used a 15C, but it's an open comb razor and those are generally, for me, terrific shavers.:) Enjoy!:)
@Julio Giuliani the lighter weight combined with the shallower angle make for a big change. but not insurmountable. I shaved with it again yesterday and came away with a really smoot_ h result. Shaving the upper lip is a bit of a change and a challenge at times.
Hi Mark- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Very nice job with the artist-style single edge razor and blade. The Feather Professional blades are quite nice. Glad you enjoyed the shave. I hope you have a great Labor Day weekend ahead. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Mark!
Hi mark. I've just bought this razor & a pack of feather professional blades. I've watched a couple reviews are all quite negative but you've changed my opinion
My SOTD was also with Proraso Green. You are right about it giving a great lather. I used the Stirling pre-shave (menthol) soap and post-shaved with alum, Dickinson's witch hazel, Proraso splash, and Proraso balm. This video was worthwhile just to show the options available for wet shaving. But I don't see any advantage in using a single edge safety razor. The cost per blade is definitely much higher. It will be interesting to know if you get as many as 7 or 8 shaves per blade. I would have thought you'd possibly get fewer compared to a high-quality DE blade. Have a great weekend.
Bart, yes, great to show and use all the various options for the wet shave.:) I agree.:) All good stuff.:) I'm not sure how many shaves I'll get. However, it's a neat razor to have in the collection and use every so often. A nice change of pace.:) Plus, looks rather neat.:) And, as I mentioned, sop mild and efficient, that it's be a good one to travel with due to the shave it gives plus the lighter weight.:)
I have both the stainless steel Razorock Lupo and the aluminum Lupo. I actually find the lighter Lupo to be better in handling. I have the stainless Hawk V3, enjoy using the single edge, and decided to order the Hawk V2.
Good morning, I'm happy to say that I finally went for it and ordered the cube 2.0 and some se gem blades for my Gem. They are on the way as of last night. I'm anxiously waiting for both
Roger, I think you're going to love the Cube.:) Regarding the Gem, it's a different razor for sure. Different approach and a different shave. But, the result is very satisfying. Some wet shavers absolutely love the Gem Micromatic. Others find that SE razors are not quite their cup of tea. YMMV. Like the Black Hawk, for some, it may take several shaves with the Gem to become accustomed to it. Just remember to adjust to the razor's proper shaving angle and use a light touch. Let us know how you fare.:)
@@MarkSzorady I definitely think the angle of the single edge will be the hardest part for me, I have a bad habit of letting muscle memory take over and my muscle memory is tuned to double edge 😂. I will really have to concentrate. I've heard from some that single edge blades have a more stiff feel to them, I'm very excited to see the difference for myself. As for the cube, I have yet to see anyone who didn't like it so I foresee no issues there. In the meantime I will scrape the bottom of my proraso pre-shave, which I really enjoyed but It didn't last as long as I thought it would.
Thanks for the Great shave video once again. Have not used any GEM nor AC blade razors, prefer to stick to razors that use DE or 1/2 DE blades, I may still venture into the AC razors at some stage. However, some of my shaving friends highly recommend the RazoRock AC Black Hawk (V3). I do have two SE razors that use 1/2 DE, the Leaf (I think that counts) and the recently released Yaqi SE which is a tad aggressive but I get surprisingly efficient and smooth shave with it.
i was unaware of the Hawk V3 until a viewer pointed it out. I thought the V2 in aluminum was the only version available. I now stand corrected. And, I've heard great thing about the V3. Like you, though, I love DE razors. So, as long as I have the V2, it'll suffice for now. Perhaps a V3 is in my future. Not sure when. The V2 is more than enough for now.:)
Tbh , I by no means hated the Blackhalk I just never really used it compared to my Vintage & Modern Safety Razors. I think I used it about 4 times and remember getting okay results just didn’t like the face feel. Probably because the blade is a lot thicker and I wasn’t used to Single Edge Razors. Or I wasn’t using the correct blade angle
Mike, thanks for this comment. Appreciate you giving some details. I hope I didn't misrepresent your feelings about the razor. Thanks for providing the extra context. Very helpful.
Hi Mark, you must have a very easy beard to shave. A razor like this would require me to add a lot of pressure to cut my beard. Stay safe and healthy. Always a great video.
Charles, yes, I'm fair-skinned so I don't believe my beard is as demanding as others. Despite this, I don't think anyone would find it necessary to add pressure. Now, the OneBlade Core, which I've reviewed, does require a bit of pressure due to its pivoting head. But, this Black Hawk really does not the added pressure. I'd really be interested to see if, despite their claims to keep the razor lightweight for maneuverability, they don't offer it in the near future made from a heavier material.
@@davesmith8721 thansk so much for this information. I was unaware of the V3. I looked it up and there is added weidht. One reviewer wrote, "I have a version 2 in aluminum. I have to say, the v3 stainless blows it away. I know, all else being equal, the only difference would be weight, right? Not quite. The stainless feels different on your face, it glides more smoothly, and the extra weight completely changes how the razor drives." So, perhaps extra weight isn't as much a factor as they first claimed? I guess my gut feeling and first thought was correct. more weight is better.:) However, I get the idea that a lightweight razor might be far easier to control for the first time user, which I am.:) After some studied use, I could then graduate to the heavier SS version.:)
Thanks, Barbus Company Since 1956.:) I'm becoming accustomed to the lighter weight. I find that it requires a little more focus only because it's such a different approach.
How cold is the cube? I have the regular 2.0 but still deciding if I want the mentholated charcoal version or the blue ice menthol cube without charcoal
Glad you like it Mark! I almost forgot to mention the bottom knob comes off if you want a shorter handle. Lol one time I was messing around and took a picture of 2 different heads on that razor just for laughs. One in the top and one on the bottom . So it had 4 edges lol 😝 💈😁👌🏻💈 *MIKE ROSE* Lol you already knew about the knob!!! See you always do your homework lol
Thank you again, Mike, for the razor.:) As I said, surprisingly mild and efficient. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but at this price, worth a try.:) YMMV.:)
