I love to see this footage and hear your opinions on high level fights! Thanks again for putting in the effort to make these vids! I would be interested in hearing your opinions about how to handle very doubley opponents. If rule sets are not sufficiently punitive for these kinds of fighters, being suicidally aggressive can be an effective strategy... I would love to hear your thoughts on how to counter this kind of garbage fencing/rule set combo.

Hi! Regarding pronunciation of names, what often works is to go to google translate, switch to the language of the person (Czech in case of Zdeněk), type that name there, and let google tell it to you. It works perfectly in this case. Of course, if the person's name is of foreign origin (with respect to their nationality), it may fail, but not in this case. Otherwise, I was at this tournament (and sadly did really badly). The rule is, if there is a double-hit, no points are awarded, with double hit being counted from simultaneous up to the attack of the second hit being started just at the moment of the first hit landing. Anything later is (should be) a point (or two) for the first hitter.

Is an arm hit fractionally earlier than head hit really the better of the two hits? Doubles suck, and I do them far too often (but am slowly improving), but I think there is an argument for quality of hit/target taking the point advantage. Otherwise aren't we at risk of encouraging fast but poor quality and risky attacks?

@@jasonbaldwin273 I am not commenting at all on how good or bad the rules are, and I honestly don't (or rather learned/grown not to) care too much in this regard. I was just bringing some additional info. But to comment on your question/opinion, all rules are defective in some way. Weighted afterblow rules promote not caring about shallow targets (because why should I, if I can solve it by striking the head), non-afterblow rules promote not caring about protecting against afterblow (obviously)... There are no superior rules, in my opinion. And the variety of the rulesets is one of the key things that makes HEMA so interesting, and the fencers (who travel between different rulesets) so versatile.
