Everyone here who is commenting about how Nikki needs to "calm down" about her reactions to animals dying or being hurt (not just in this show but GoT and Walking Dead) really need to stop it. She doesn't have to stop having compassion toward animals and she's allowed to decide she doesn't enjoy watching something. Sorry if you're disappointed because you wanted her to like something and she did not, but please don't tell her how to react! That's really rude.

W I don't think it was unnecessary at all. Not only did it kick off the show with a shocking and memorable first episode but it had poignant social commentary about how the public reacts to viral events. This event was just purposely ridiculous so it highlighted the insiders' responses and that of the viewing public even more.

Martin Larsen white bear is defiantly one of my favorite episodes along with white Christmas. I love when people can see past some of the weird sci-fi, in your face moment of the show and appreciate the message behind the story. Although the weird, sci-fi unapologetic moments of each episode is part of that made me love it!!

@@BangTanPrettiNikki yeah, many people love Black Mirror for the originality, I do as well, but I really fell in love with the way it made you think. At one point you would think one thing, and then after a while, thinking about it, you would change your mind because you read someone elses thought on the matter. And then back again. I've gone back and forth on San Junipero for example.

In a small way my reaction actually mirrored that of the audience in the hospital. I chuckled at the initial demands, then sort've played the same kind of mental pingpong about whether the PM does it or not. By the end I had the same reaction as the audience: horrified at the reality of it all. And disturbed at the implications of social media. This episode really was a Black Mirror in the worst way possible.

Interesting side note. When they advertised this first episode on British TV they showed the initial briefing scene but didn't mention anything to do with the pig. They really floored all of us when it was revealed as we thought it was going to be a completely different type of show. More of a typical political thriller and we got a mind fuck.

The 3rd and 4th are good and that's as far as I've gone. I certainly wouldn't have chosen it on my own. I kind of see like the Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits

So, I watched this episode for the first time a few days ago in anticipation of you guys watching it - and I thought it was AMAZING. Hard to watch? Disturbing? You bet. As I was watching and for quite a while afterwards I had so many thoughts racing through my head of the "could this really happen" and "what would you do" variety. Also, the whole idea of me watching a show about billions of people watching something so difficult to watch - should they not watch? Should I not watch? Just fascinating. There seem to be quite a few comments along the lines of "you should have skipped this episode". Well, for me, it was quite an experience and I'm glad I...uh...watched it.

I agree and thank you. Yes, this seems to be a great show to get you thinking. Seeing some comments that people can't believe I feel bad for an animal....but it's a real thing. The idea that we can't help but watch others in difficult/horrible situations. There are so many other things to discuss after watching this episode, I could go on and on. I appreciate the folks that aren't dragging me for feeling empathy for an animal. - Nikki

The artist killed himself because the PM went through with it. If even one person was on the Millenium Bridge when the princess was released (normally a very crowded bridge) then the final act could have been averted. The idea that the bridge was completely deserted was a confirmation of the artist's worst fears, and the ultimate point of his work. Crazy.

I watched this show in order and this ep hooked me in. Yes, that was disgusting, but c'mon, the main thing was the commentary on society. PM wouldn't have to do it if people weren't sitting home and waiting for "the show", princess would be found right before it. And people recommended Black Mirror for you not with this episode in mind but with the rest of different stories. Most of them are really dark, but ppl love the twists, acting and meaning behind it.

1. great to see this coming to the channel. 2. do NOT give up on it. it's INTENDED to make you feel disquiet & think about things like social media, how we interact - or don't - with each other nowadays. 3. there really is no tv out there that's remotely like it imo. NOT carrying on would be a loss to yourselves *&* us as viewers. getting to see new people grow to like/love what we like/love is ace & believe me, this *is* a beloved show, and with very very good reason. 4. looking forward to ep #2 already...

The other brilliant part of this episode specifically is the online reactions from people. They show you people tweeting really crass things about the situation because anyone can hide behind a computer screen and say awful, insensitive things at the expense of strangers. And all the people that were laughing/cheering before the video, and then you can see the guilt on their faces once it actually happens. A great statement on how we treat strangers/tragedy/humiliation in the age of technology.

You have to be really open-minded to this series. All episodes are different, but... you can put them in an actual timeline each one of them once you have finished all seasons. Maybe 2 or 3 are out of the timeline, but most of them in a timeline: eg, starting at 2010-2011 until 2025-2030 or more i don't know... So, keep watching, it really makes your brain work. Good excercise for neurons. It's great. *You'll see some of GOT actors/actresess too. Maestre Luwin in here.

Excellent job, guys! I know it is hard watching a series/episode for the first time and having to remain centered through all of it. You can't imagine how people must have felt when they saw this for the first time and the gloom and doom that came over them!!! Hahaha!! Nikki was so worried about the pig!! And yes that's okay, but it was about the persons involved and the unfortunate sacrifices required. This is certainly a thinking person's show, but even more than that: the acting, the writing, the camera work is all excellent. Enjoy the rest of the journey Nikki and Steven!!!!

A lot of people say to skip the first episode, but I think it's a great intro into the weird perverse story telling in Black Mirror. Not every episode is as weird, or as shocking, but most will make you look at society or technology at least for a moment. The episodes are great for post viewing discussion, so I am looking forward to that!

Black Mirror is a play on the phrase 'through a glass darkly' - in other words how we all have an imperfect or obscured version of reality, especially through the lens of technology and social media. This show holds that lens up and reflects it back at us, forcing us to question how we present ourselves and perceive others.

Five great things about Black Mirror that you'll quickly realize: 1. All episodes are standalone stories with minor tie-ins to the meta-narrative, so you can watch them in any order. 2. Reactors can read comments immediately and (hopefully) not get spoiled on future episodes since they're unrelated. 3. Each episode is almost guaranteed to provide plenty of good discussion material afterwards relating to our actual lives. 4. If you dislike an episode, it's very unlikely you'll get another one like it. The series tackles a new genre every episode. 5. Like GOT, this show is willing and prepared to give you an unhappy ending as much as a happy one.

*Black Mirror is so freaking dark. Like a super dark twilight zone. I've watched all episodes and was usually left sad or disgusted afterwards. Each episode is a stand alone story set in an alternate reality set usually a few years or more into the future. Honestly I don't think Nikki is going to be able to stomach too many more episodes.*

I echo the sentiments of everyone else. The first episode is one of the more difficult to watch but I think you guys will enjoy this somewhat different format of television. There will be episodes that you LOVE and likely episodes that you HATE but that's the beauty of Black Mirror! Just keep in mind, every episode is trying to examine how society is reacting to the ever-advancing technologies of the modern world. Steven hit the nail on the head at 20:19 with the theme of this episode. Looking forward to seeing what you guys think of some of the other episodes! :)

Guys want you to keep in mind about this show is to pay attention of the theme correlating to today's society. The first episode is about of how viral video and online reaction desensitize us. The idea for the pig is for the reaction and the shock and awe aspect realize that the video is on RU-vid.

The point of black mirror is to make you think and make you question life. Its not always a comfortable watch but the best thing is each ep is totally different and there are some amazing ones you will love!

I love Charlie Brooker. This episode is just a fantastic example of taking something absolutely absurd and ridiculous and playing it completely straight and dramatic. Not to mention the prophetic nature of the particular absurd story. Life and art and all that...

Please don't let anyone tell you to watch episodes out of their release order. That's not the way to go. There are certain things that could only possibly be noticed if you see them without jumping around like that, and some concepts that just play better later if you've seen the stuff that came before.

I started Black Mirror about 3 or 4 weeks ago and for some reason Netflix showed me Ep 1 of Season 4 first and good thing they did because I watched this episode last week and if I'd seen this one first, I don't think I would keep watching. I'm with Nikki, poor pig.

Teri Augustine same thing happened to me. I was about 3 episodes in before I realized I wasn’t watching from the beginning. I’m starting to think Netflix does that for black mirror on purpose because every other multi season show I click on for the first time the first season shows up.

I'm currently 7 episodes in and this is by far the most extreme episode I've seen. The show is very thought provoking and you're not supposed to be comfortable watching this episode ... that's the whole point. The show is all about morals, ethics and the (potential) impact of technology and media on society and individuals.

The point of this show is to make the viewers uncomfortable. While I agree this episode took this a bit too far, I kinda liked it. Just know that you don't have to watch the episode chronologically.

Was really happy to see this title pop up in my feed; there's so many episodes in this series that will really give you something to ponder/consider, or just have fantastic mind blowing moments. Also though, maybe do a little tease at the end of the reaction for what the next episode will be about for people who haven't seen it to entice them to keep watching?

the comments for this video are hilarious. Sooo many overly sensitive triggered people. Hopefully all the haters leave after episode 1. The saddest part is how many people are saying that this is a bad show for them to react to, that nikki cant handle it, etc.. people said that about game of thrones too. Those of us who are true fans picked this show because we know that Nikki and Steven are both intelligent and mature enough to both "handle" and appreciate this episode and this series. Just because some of you can't handle it, doesn't mean they should stop reacting to it. If you don't like the show, then stfu and go somewhere else, because they already did the poll and already picked this series.

Can't wait to see you guys watch episode 3 of this first season; particularly since you are a married couple, and the tech in that episode can have a dramatic effect on a marriage. It'll be interesting to see what you think of it. I'll echo others on here and tell you to stick with this show. It is a really great (if somewhat darker) take on "The Twilight Zone".

long time watcher, first time writing in. im one of the ones who voted you should watch Black Mirror and i hope you continue past this episode. i had forgotten that some of the episode s are hard to watch..this one being the most difficult. i feel they touch on themes that are important for all of us to think about. us and our devices,as the world gets smaller and humanity loses contact with its own self

Black mirror is a way to say Cellphone or any Screen when closed. We all have our black mirror and we are stick to it! this is one of my favorite show since you get an outside view of your own on the technology in our society and make you come up with morale every episode or so about something. I hope i was clear i'm not that used to english.

There’s 2 shows that y’all should totally start watching! One is “Lost” which is absolutely amazing and the best show ever! Another show is on Netflix called “Wentworth”...it’s about women in prison in Australia but this show literally makes me call in work just to watch it! I am completely obsessed !!

It is obviously going to win based on votes. I love watching Nikki and Steve, and now I'm only going to get to watch them on weekends. I think Breaking Bad is the worst option on the list. They should be watching Vikings, it's even based on real history. I mean really, the story of a chemistry teacher who gets cancer and then becomes a meth dealer is winning, what the hell?
