This does give people the feeling of sandy world. While me as a Chinese, as someone lived with this accent in same province, cant understand more than 10% of what it was singing 😅
That's Lingji Bodhisattva,in the Book of Journey to the West, he assists Wukong twice. He's headless because his head was stolen by the British and displaying in the British Museum.
I grew up with this type of music, so I can probably share a few words about it. It's rooted in northern Shaanxi, an area characterized by sandy mountains. That's why the music evokes the feeling of wild deserts and rugged mountains-that is where the music is born. Decades ago, groups of performers would travel across villages and towns on special occasions to perform this kind of music. The singing typically told stories from old times or new stories created by the performers themselves. For most people back then, this was one of the few forms of entertainment and one of the few ways to learn about the world beyond their small village. The harsh reality is that many of these performers were actually people with disabilities, such as blindness. This resonates with the NPC of the headless monk. These individuals likely took up performing because they couldn’t engage in more typical occupations like farming to make a living. Life was hard back then, but it was also full of happiness. I miss it so much. I’ve been thinking about picking this up as a hobby myself, so my kids know their roots.
I am not surprised at all if you go to the website of the British Museum and search Budha head you will know why the headless bodhisattva has a Scottish accent.
Because the rap style and accent in the game are from Yulin City in northern Shaanxi Province, China, commonly known as Shaanxi storytelling. And the map outline of Shaanxi Province, including its terrain and the distribution of major cities, is very similar to that of the UK. Yulin City's position in Shaanxi is also similar to Scotland's position in the UK. So the English version of this character's accent uses a Scottish English accent.
That's impressive attention to detail and world building. Though the accent caught me off guard when I heard it and it fits this character surprisingly.
@@露透社 lol statues were broken up and looted by poverty-stricken uneducated locals who didn’t care about them because they didn’t understand the historical and cultural value, they just knew the stuff was worth money to the pale foreigners, so then they sold the pieces to British archaeologists who wanted to preserve them. The British Museum is giving a lot of this stuff back to origin countries that now have stable governments and proper archaeological societies that can preserve them.
He is a budhar name Lingji, he sure can sing whit no head , a rat stole his head, implying that nowaday in physical world the little British is a rat thief, as you can find his head displaying in British musum if you go visit that exhibition hall of crime committed
The statue head in the British museum is of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The headless character in the game is Lingji Bodhisattva. They are two completely different people. Additionally, the statue head in the British museum was donated in 2022 by a businessman from Hong Kong, Joseph Hotung, who held the statue head as part of his private art collection. He decided to donate it in 2022, so that people from around the world could see it in the museum.

@@XxxULTIMATEZxxXyet you can’t deny that the fact that British robbed countless treasures from China just like that rat in the game and sure the Buddha will bless them 😊
It’s Scottish. Never call them English unless you want to get glassed in the face. Also the localization is what it is but by no means is it “good” - it’s dumb that their idea of a rural accent is this. Would be more accurate as a KKonaW Texas farm boy. The accent in Chinese is very country (their version of it).
The comments about his accent is spot on Basically he is speaking in such a heavy accent that to the normal speakers he sounds like he's speaking thick Bayou accent for American english speakers, Pikey Irish for English speakers.
As Chinese, his chinese proverbs in the lyrics are so advanced I could not even understand. He could even sing and rap it with a 三弦 which I like to call it 3string Chinese guitar. Hoof!

I heard the English voice of headless specially selected a scotish accent is because of the joke about the similarity of UK and Shaanxi Province(where the song type is from)This type of song is from the north part of Shaanxi, which is Scotland, compare to UK

@@XxxULTIMATEZxxX Great! Smart guy, answer the following question: If a thief stole your car and gave your car to another guy for free, then would you consider the guy the legal owner of your vehicle? Right! Oh, you might say the Joseph guy is not a thief, he bought it somewhere. That only makes him commit the act of selling or disposing of stolen goods or illegally obtained items through illegal means. Do you get it? Don't try to justify a crime.
Shanbei Storytelling, as a traditional form of folk art, has a long history and profound cultural heritage in the Shanbei region. Its history can be traced back to the Western Zhou Dynasty, when professional storytellers first emerged. However, it was the poor blind artists who truly made Shanbei Storytelling famous. They held sticks, played the sanxian, and sang various legendary stories in the minor tunes of Shanbei folk songs, which were deeply loved by the local people.
I really appreciated the localization effort they made here... The original lyrics were sang in a dialect from north-western China, so translating it into English with Scottish accent was a smart move. Not only that, the English lyrics actually rhymed, and rhymed on the same syllables as the original Chinese lyrics! If you pay close attention you would notice that. Their English localization team is beyond epic imo. 8.5/10 as a game, but 11/10 as a piece of art!
It's incredible how a random piece of music you find on youtube can stay with you for more than 10 years. I've listened to this when i broke up with my first serious girlfriend. I've listened to it when i became homeless and lived in some abandoned catacomb tunnels. I've listened to it when i fell into the grip of heroin addiction. I've listened to it when i got sober, and i'm listening to it now, at almost 32 years of age, as i live a normal life with a regular job. There are many versions of it on voutube, but not a single time have i not used this one version on this channel. Keep it up as long as possible please.
For people that keep saying that his head is gone because it got taken to the British museum are kind of wrong. The in story reason why he dosent have a head is because the yellow wind stage sneak attacked him and is using his head as magic item to try to properly use the relic he has.

Everytime I don't got the keY item he poped up and said something like" Dont be sad, its just a big mysterious secret, but u will solve it if you stay that strong" and After I killed the tigerboss he joined me cripwalking in my room and hypinge up like " this game is easy for you". fake, lingi bodhisattva is a fictionary character like everyone else in the story. Nobody can donate a storybook character's head to a british meseum...but fact is there are plenty of other real statues stolen by the british
from "Cooking good bgm" to "Oh!! Someone is singing it" to "And he is headless?" to "And he's singing while monkey bro lying there in pain?" to "Scottish?"
