For anyone curious about the ending animation of this chapter: the large, ugly elephant-like creature is actually YellowBrow, the boss of this chapter. YellowBrow is an apprentice of Buddha and believes that people are born evil. To prove his point, he transformed into this grotesque elephant-like creature, with gold in his body and cure in his veins, attempting to draw out the worst in human nature. This is why, in the end, YellowBrow (the skeleton) tells Jinchanzi, another apprentice of Buddha who believes that people are born good, that he has proven his point.
I thought you only get access to that ending after your first playthrough? Like the devs said you’re supposed to play through the entire game multiple times for all the endings. It’s supposed to fit the theme of Buddhism and escaping the cycle of reincarnation
The cutscene it may seems like a story about greediness, but I think it actually a story about obsession. JinChanZi and Yellowbrow had a bet on wether human are born to be good or evil, and Yellowbrow believe that people are born to be evil. Maybe he wanna prove he is right or maybe he just simply want to win the bet, no matter how, he had a obsession on this. So he let himself in this game, and he use his power to lure people to get the result he want. (In the cutscene, you can find that the knife man is actually pulled by something, and i believe that's yellowbrow's trick. Also in the game if you pay attention to what he said, you will find he keep telling player that be evil is okay, that's human's nature) As a result, Yellowbrow is tore apart and village is ruined. Will Yellowbrow be satisfied? I don't think so, cause he said "once again, I proved it", so probably he will do this kind of thing again and again, until he can suppress his obsession. And that's why he can only be a yaoguai but JinChanZi can be a real Buddha.
In Buddhist theory, a person who is particularly wise is said to have the wisdom root, and I think your answer meets this condition: Yellow Eyebrows is obsessed with proving that human nature is greedy, but the essence here is that he thinks there is nothing wrong with greed, he thinks that denying human nature is greedy is hypocritical, because human greed is also part of the law of nature, and from the Buddha's point of view, human greed and human kindness are meaningless, because when you are truly enlightened, you have separated yourself from the concept of human nature. To be obsessed with justifying human greed is actually to be obsessed with whether human nature is good or evil, but from the Buddha's point of view, you would think about such a low-level question, indicating that you are still obsessed, you are not yet a Buddha
That monster is Yellowbrow, and the monk behind is Sanzang(Jinchanzi is Sanzang's past life). This story tells that they made a bet in heaven and Yellowbrow won.
For anyone that might be curious: WuKong is a Buddhist Dharma name given to WuKong by his master. Wù (悟) means enlightenment or realization. Kōng (空) is a Buddhist concept (Śūnyatā in Sanskrit), it refers to the concept of emptiness or voidness if translated literally. However, it means that all phenomena are empty of intrinsic existence and don’t exist independently or permanently, and everything is interconnected and interdependent. The name WuKong thus means the person(monkey) shall acquire the wisdom of understanding the true meaning of Kong or this interconnected state of himself and the universe he’s in. Hope this helps.
Actually, it is not. The name can also be explained in Taoism, because Wukong's first master is the founder of the combination of Buddhism and Taoism. In Taoism, the human heart is like a restless monkey jumping up and down, and in Chinese it also means a monkey. So Wukong represents a person's restless mind, but if a person can control his heart, he will awaken to emptiness, so he got this name. There is a sentence in the original text of Journey to the West: 定住心猿则悟空,拴住意马便化龙。
i hope theres a way for Jev to go back to the chapter 2 area. theres a secret boss in the same arena as the stone vanguard. you give it the buddha eyes to awaken it and then once its dead gives you a new staff upgrade. Full Charge Heavy Boost!
That house in the mid of frozen lake at 7:06 reminds me of the original chinese 1961 animation "Havoc in Heaven". When Wukong was fighting Erlong with different transformation forms, he turned into one of that little red house just like in the game. Also that fight was when Wukong first lost his fight against Erlong referring to the game intro when Erlong said he has bested Wukong once.
I always watch you while I’m a Work, have for several years. This is one of the very very few times you’ve really Clutched up with a 50 minute video. Helps the time fly man, Appreciate it.
In fact, there is another supernatural novel in China that can rival “Journey to the West”. Its name is “Fengshen Yanyi”(The investiture of the gods), and its cosmology is quite grand. The war between humans, gods, and demons set in the late Shang Dynasty also illustrates the origins of many gods in the Heavenly Court
Jev if you beat yin tiger you unlock some really cool edge lord armor and can equip an extra curios to get the armor after beating him talk to him and select equip extra curios and then you’ll unlock the armor also the armor will suit your play style it’ll have lower defense but you can upgrade it you also unlock the ability to transform into the yin tiger. Yes, for example, Dazu stone carving in Chongqing, Guanyin with a thousand hands, and there are 27 scenic spots and hanging temples in Shanxi, so many of them can be visited.
Excuse me? This game is based on Black people, not Chinese folks. It’s literally called “Black Myth: Wukong”. Characters are from the rap group Wu-Tang Clan…
In this game, there is a mural depicting Sun Wukong's master, Bodhi Patriarch (akin to Zeus), earnestly instructing his disciple. The mural shows Bodhi Patriarch carefully teaching Sun Wukong, treating him with the tenderness of a father caring for his son. Sun Wukong is deeply moved upon seeing this mural; in the original work, he also cried when he saw the place where his master Bodhi Patriarch practiced, as it was Bodhi Patriarch who understood and cherished him. In contrast, Sun Wukong's master Tang Sanzang is more like a boss and employee, with Tang Sanzang often being harsh and scolding.
@@GardenGuy1942I think he implies that Jev is really good at playing video games. It's not the first time he has run through challenging scenarios while being ill-equipped.
Just in case you wonder about Yellowbrow and the child monk: the child monk is Maitreya-nātha (mi-le), the Buddha of the future. A forecoming budda. Kind of like the concept of Messiah. Yellowbrow was once Maitreya's apprentice. So he'd claim he is a peer with Jinchanzi. They were classmates, sort of. Yet Yellobrow grew arrogant and stole Maitreya's celestial items (the bag and the cymbals), left the celestial court, and built his own temple to enjoy worship from mortals by coping Maitreya's image. Until his temple was on the way to Wukong's journey to the west. GG... The black (dark) myth about these characters was that if the yaoguai was once a pet or apprentice from someone above, they were all forgiven and retrieved by their old masters. You see, the bear from Chapter 1 was the apprentice of Guanyin, and Yellowbrow was the apprentice of Maitreya. Despite all the sins they committed, they all survived and returned to their masters. That is why Wukong was so sick of the celestial court.
@@rezabeast1722 There are multiple endings. If you neither fight the hidden bosses nor fulfil some key requests, the ending that you will get is considered one of the worst ending(*no spoilers*).
That thing in the cut scene at the end is Yellowbrow (in one cycle when he came to the mortal world). The other monk Jinchanzi is Tang monk (Wukong's master)
Jev, I know you said you weren’t going completionist on this game, but I would really suggest going back and completing the secrets of the early chapters! It’s so rewarding, the bosses and lore are awesome!
Thank you I’ve enjoyed your channel so much! This is ancient Chinese mythology but also based on Chinese Zen/Tao/Philosophy. To appreciate the deeper meanings hidden behind all those details in the game, one could check out the Chinese novel “A journey to the west” or the Chinese Zen Book “How to be Happy: the Wisdom to Attain Happiness and Success by Constructing an Invincible Mind”.
Jev screaming when he attacks or gets blasted is the most immersive thing I've seen a youtuber do. So dope brother keep up the great videos man!!!!!!!!!
In this cartoon, Jin Chanzi (Tang Sanzang's previous life) and his senior brother Huang Mei's previous life debated about Buddhist scriptures: Jin Chanzi insisted that there was kindness in human nature, while Huang Mei firmly believed that human nature was fragile. So Huang Mei sacrificed his body to prove the fragility of human beings......
that boss literally took me hours. Ive first tried many bosses but struggled hard asf on that 3 phase buddha boss. Then after i beat him I realized i could upgrade my gourd from the starting one LMFAO
For the transformation, there is a little yellow meter in the bottom right corner that fills up like a focus point. Once filled you have to first dodge in any direction followed by a heavy attack. That will give you the big slam!
Jev You really need to do the hidden bosses one day whether you record it or not they are amazingly done and have so much lore in it and open whole new areas
Jev, non able is honestly the best combo spirit in the game imo, you throw it out mid light combo to vary the combo while carrying your light combo. It can be a starter, mid, or finisher(which does the most damage) it also comes back super fast
If you go back to the 1st prince flowing sand boss fight arena there is a wall with buddha statues you can break with the Wandering Wight spirit and behind it is a secret room that has Loong Scales and it gets rid of waterfalls so you can get behind them! P.S the first waterfall is at Black Wind Mountain=Forest of Wolves=Outside the Forest. Your Welcome.
@@omnipotentpotato6939 1. Sukuna - 2. Gojo - 3. Yuta - 4. Yuji - 5. Higurama - 6. Todo - 7. Maki - 8. Miguel - 9. Larue - 10. Choso/Ino Every single person on this list lasted longer/had a larger impact against Sukuna. Kashimo’s best feat is one shotting panda 😂
@JEV, you were asking about the 2 dots next to your gourd.. from what I have gathered, I think they just inform you on the amount of soaks you can equip. A gourd/drink with 3 means you could equip 3 soaks rather than 1 with the basic things
holy shit i love the fact you went for a 50 minute video. Been here since the Factory at your grandparents. So happy to see you grow, i know its parasocial but im proud
